- This DIY Box Truck Conversion was done by my good friend Dale. Recently, Dale decided to retire from his full-time job and build himself a tiny house on wheels. At first Dale was looking for a school bus but ended up finding this one of a kind box truck to convert into his tiny home.
Dale's Box Truck, also know as the 'Slacker Box Palace' is a retirees dream home with a shower and toilet, full refrigerator, kitchen, bedroom and tv for entertainment. The read lift gate still works as well for loading and unloading the box truck.

''It's an outdoor stove, but it doesn't know it's not outdoors so it's not bothered'' - Best line ever from Dale.
Best line ever.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dale's quotes are the best!
Made me chuckle, too
Got a laugh out of us here at home!
"I am who I am.......your approval isn't needed" Love the t-shirt Dale
"It is an outdoor stove but it doesn't know that its outdoors so it's not really bothered..." love this guy!
Thanks!
Love it too ❤️😂
I caught that too lol 😂
“it ‘s an outdoor stove, but it doesn’t know it is not outdoors, so it is not bothered by it “ LOL. Best line. :)
I like how this guy doesn't settle. He makes his van comfortable and useful to use.
Cool build ..... refrigerator necessities... Bud Light. Good to see a man with priorities in line.
Absolutely love the simple/functional aspects of this build. And I’m a fan of Dale’s humor.
Dale is a great jokester. Having him on the build has been so much fun.
Please tell me how the duramax is on fuel. Do you know the axel ratio? Mike, does your bus have a turbo or is it naturally aspirated 6.5? I have a 7.3, E450,Collins bus (no wheel wells!!). I’m hoping for 9+mpg.
Keep up the good work. I’ll see you on the road.
Dale is such a gem. I appreciate that guy.
I get the impression that Dale is not only creative and extremely knowledgeable about how to build things, but he'd be a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.
I love how homey this space is! Everything is sensible, simple, and comfortable. Congratulations on having accomplished what I think is just the perfect little moving home.
Agreed. So many builds I watch, the end product is so fancy. I love simplistic.
That's a lot of floor space! He's really self sufficient. He's right about not putting in cabinets. Much roomier. Good video!
I agree and it stops you from having too much stuff.
@ 5:30 “it is an out door stove but it doesn’t know that it’s [not] outdoors so it isn’t bothered”
Lol. This guy is so enjoyable!!
I think I am in love with the faux-Berkey hack. Generally the whole build a great example of KISS (keep it simple, stupid). Awesome build and thanks for sharing:
Thanks for watching. Dale has so many awesome hacks !
Yeah... actually, I need to ask Dale next time I see him to look at it more closely! I saw it in his rig the last time we hung out, but never "noticed" that it was a Berkey "hack"! Lol
That would absolutely be something that I would have done too!
@Happy Elf first I want to say Thank you Dale for that Awesome Hack. Yes I too would love a tutorial and or a diagram of some sort.
@@lct7284 yes, that's another video. 🙂
Master Electrician here. It looks to me like that extension cord is 18ga, a little light for an RV 30A circuit. You should at least have a 12 ga. I'm just trying to keep thing safe.
😂 lol!! All these I’ve seen all these families have little fridges! And here he is all by himself and he’s got the biggest fridge I’ve seen! That’s A lot of Bud light!!
i like his sense of humor, he has just enough space for himself
You have to love the setup that Dale has. It’s simple and to the point.
Clever build like that you opened the cab to the back of the truck. Good for when you need to move in a hurry or for safety.
I love how the stove doesnt mind being inside. Im currently looking for appliances with the same "can do" attitude
Yeah that's a carbon monoxide risk. Look into heaters vented outside.
A reasonable man with creative ideas, a quilt, and a sense of humor. Thank you for showing me your rolling home.
Holy cow Dale, it doesn’t get any better than that, nice!
Dale is the king of the Slackers!
You might be coming close, where is a new video?
Yes! But you sir are the Crown Prince.
Do we LOVE Dale? Yes we do! ❤🌻❤
Dale is the best!! His DIY Berkey is amazing!!
Thanks
Would love to see a tutorial of his "berkey" set up! Love everything about this build.
Was going to say this too. Yes! Hopefully if enough people mention it, Dale will do a tutorial.
THAT 'S THE TICKET !
SAFE TRAVEL ,ONWARD BOUND!
You can see that he has to strap the pots so they dont fall into each other as they are stacked pots. I thought about it, but that money savings didn't equal the time to build and the odds that it will go to land fill. Berkey has a bunch of sales. And get the stainless spigot and stand. Spend the money. It's for the water.
There's a tutorial on youtube of someone showing you how to build your own "berkey". It's pretty simple and definitely worth the effort.
Can you drill 3 to 5 holes in a stainless pot? One for the spigot, and how ever many filters you want to install in the upper container. Kinda a no-brainer.
(The filters come with the rubber sealing grommets, as do quality spigots)
Hey hey... Dale has a rig!!! I didn't even know that!!!
So many hacks, that is one hell of a box truck... Plenty of head room, thats the only issue I see with the short bus... I would have had to have put a water heater on the shower though, ohhh a cold shower is not fun!!!😂
Haha, cold showers are not for everyone. I figure people who are watching the build series don’t know dale and his rig so it was a fun video to film for everyone
Well he has a in demand tanklesswater heater so he could hook that up to the shower. I seen it was under the sink
I like this box camper better than any I've seen . Good use of space, roomy and practical .Smart Florida man !
Hands down this is the best, most practical and frugal camper I've seen on UA-cam. Everything is well thought out and has a purpose.
Very creative. He has a one of a kind interior. I like the way he used the things from habitat for humanities; so cool. I really really like his T-shirt
Thank you to Dale for letting me share your home with everyone. Dale has been an amazing friend to me over the years and I am happy to share his home and personality with you all. Here is a good question after watching this video: Box truck or Short Bus?
Well... Bus... but then again. If I were single, the Box Truck would definitely be my "go to" rig. I had a few when in the transportation business, and always thought that they would make Awesome build out rigs.
Ohh the supervisor nice home Dale!
I would have easily said bus, but Dales build has me thinking.
Now that I made budget, I am honestly doing pro/con on both. It's just me, the cat and the dog, and I like the flat space of the box truck (actually looking at cut aways). My question about the schoolie is with the already there windows, how do you screen them? I don't want mosquitoes and flies. The box truck allows for cuts to install regular house windows and doors.
@@cynhanrahan4012 we screened our Skoolie, with no issues. You can get screen building materials at any home improvement store and build them to suit y ou ur particular windows.
I would bet any amount of $ money , this guy is one of the happiest guys u will ever meet , living stress free like he does , u would have no choice but to be
All about necessity, that's what works for him, he found a way to put a shower in,I love it
what a cool guy :) ...great build as well
That is exactly what I have been thinking about for years because you can find those for such a good price. Very motivational.
Dale might have convinced me to build one out some time!
He’s so creative and frugal 😃 love this build!
Cold shower? Respect. Thanks for the tour. Big fan of the kitchen storage with no bulky cabinets.
"It doesn't know that it's not outside" Love Dale!!!! LOLOL
For all of you out there in YT land watching this, (and of course, reading all these comments)...
In all Honesty, I built out our Skoolie with almost all reused(in one way or another) items we located through either the Habitat ReStore, or FB Marketplace. We saved TONS of $$$ by simply purchasing items that were not used, or "thrown away"(donated). Even down to our full size kitchen Gas stove/oven. It was brand new, but was being sold through a "scratch n dent" appliance store, and in our case, the only thing "wrong with it" was that it was a display or "floor" model. It was literally 1/2 of the original price!!! ($599, purchased with taxes for $300!!!)
Don't be afraid to explore all options when fitting out your rig. A little bit of homework, and some "shopping around", with stretch those dollah's by quite a bit.
Beautiful ! Love that it’s an out door stove but it doesn’t know it’s an out door stove so it’s not bothered. LOL
Very impressive build! I just love the simplicity and ORDER! Just beautiful. And the faux-Berkey hack, @john Keller - Dale! That is just brilliant! Hmmmm. Box truck? or Short Bus? I'm loving BOTH! I love all tiny spaces - i live in a "Shed" - 8x16! Hahaha! In the desert! With DUCKS! Yes. really. I have videos to prove it! LOL Love you guys! Stay safe out there in the summer heat!
No. The ducks are in the desert, NOT my shed! hahaha!
Yeah, Dale! Love all your upcycled Restore finds, and homemade water filter!!!
Dale is a upcycle master
That was very smart. I'd like to see a video on that. The other brand is insanely expensive.
Love the video and the box truck. He has done a wonderful job converting the back.
Thanks, I will be sure to let him know! Such a fun build
That was a awesome video never really thought of converting a box van. New option!
@@marcbaird869 I think there may be a "box van club" - it's a pretty awesome choice for many people! Dale's is one of the best i've seen!
Good example of a rig that was built to needs without a lot of pomp and circumstance. Just works, and works for him.
The head space is phenomenal! Unique idea!
I know now were i have seen Dale before.. He helped out Seven last year in Florida ... What a neat build...I like his whole idea there ..👍🏻👍🏻
That’s awesome!!! No wonder he’s supervisor!!! Lol ❤️❤️
Best one I could ask for
Did I hear that right? Slackers box palace....! Great Name!
Great set-up. "It doesn't know it's an out door stove. So it's not botherd." Hilarious!
Great video Dale. You're a natural!!! Great rig too.
Thanks for the tour!
What a nice rolling home. You have made it look cozy and welcome.
I just love how he made The filtered water and stove awesome job can’t get no better than this simply simply simple .. thanks for sharing 🤗
There's enough space on the roof for enough solar panels to run that A/C. I've got 400ah of lithium @24v and it can do 6 hours of full power A/C (no solar input, no ac cycling, always on). 1000w of panels to recharge it. So I can get a few hours of ac in late afternoon once the batteries are charged up (gotta dump that extra free energy somewhere). And all night of ac if I set it to not cycle on too much.
Florida man here as well. While I'd always like to just drive where you don't need ac. Sometimes that's just not possible.
Hey, you woke me up! 😴🙃 We love Dale - what a tidy bachelor nest! Box trucks are versatile, but, schoolbus for the win 😍🚌
That’s one vote for school buses ! Haha
I love the different door options and that you cut into the cab. It makes it much easier!
I LOVE THIS BUILD OUT!!!! No fancy decor, no matchy-matchy!! Just inexpensive, useful, quality construction! Thanks for sharing. I am ripping off soo many ideas of yours when I do my build sir,..hope you don't mind!!!!!
Hey Mr. Dale , Your Build is Very Nice and Looks Comfy !! If we see ya We Will Stop to Say Hello !! Thank you so much for letting us all see your Little Home.. Loved it !!
Nice, organized, smartly frugal, very honest , love shower concept -fast,easy in and out - no discipline require -just leave water cold, pretty much self regulates. Thanks for sharing ,Dale !
"Just the necessities, Bud Light that sort of stuff."
"It doesn't know it's not outdoors, so it's not bothered"
This man is so genuine and hilarious!
Amazing all the comforts of home. The homemade Berkey is ingenious! Those things are expensive!
Absolutely perfect for 1 person. Or a big guy in a little truck. ~~♡♡
"It's only full of the necessities...bud light, that kind of thing". I love this guy.
Me too.
I love how beer is a necessity for him. My type of guy!
This is perfect, he did a fantastic job
Thanks for sharing this !
Dale, GREAT BUILD!!!! You have earned your Supervisor title. Loved the video. Keep em coming guys!
Thanks, Dale is the best supervisor
I think that choosing the box truck over the skoolie was a good choice ! And he has everything that is necessary for a comfortable living ! I love his 'pantry shelves' and using the silverware holders, very creative = Great job !
Thank you Dale, you did a great job with that truck! I am going to steal your idea with the shelfs, doesnt matter that i dont have a truck, they are smart and look good! 😉 Thank you guys for sharing! 🙏
Very nice build, Dale!! The Habitat Restores can be an absolute goldmine!! Having that lift gate comes in handy to lift everything into the box part, especially the heavy stuff. I also like that you made a way to get to the cab from the box. I don't think I could stay in the back without it!!
As much as I really like the way Dale built his box truck, I would have to have a skoolie for myself.
Thank you for the video tour of your rig, Dale. It looks great!!!
I agree with having that lift gate! It would be awesome to have that when loading heavy stuff.
Dale reminds me of my dad, he would have loved a truck like this
Loving those silverware cups. That's a great idea.
Love your home Dale!
Great job..
You have given me many good ideas..
Great build simple but very well thought through at low cost for its uses like all that he has done I could do that well done
Nice RIG!!
For me the most cool part of this project is the standard fridge to keeping cool the bud lights 👍. I like your conversion, simple and functional.
Before I got my bus I almost bought a rig looking just like that that, I would have to convert it it also came with the tailgate and the side door. Excellent job Dale is there a way that you could do a video or take pictures of an show how you did your water filter with the pots that is ingenious👍👋👋👋👋👋 stay safe stay strong stay healthy god bless and enjoy life oh and Mike your short bus so far is looking outrage I love it🤙❤👨🍳🎅🚌s
Excellent rig Dale, everything you need and nothing you don't, well done it really looks and feels like a homely home. Seeya Rob
Thanks I’ll be sure to let him know ! He put a lot of thought into the build !
Please tell Dale he inspired me beyond...wow. Thank you for great ideas
His home is so cozy and well-thought out.
Loved this video. Dale is such an amazing, caring, and funny guy. His box truck is just perfect. Love the layout and the little patio area on the lift gate. Much love to y’all ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love how well thought out this build is, especially the sink faucet tip, the cabinet alternative options, and that homemade Berkey! Awesome! It's more like a cabin than a box truck. Well done!
necessity and bud light in one sentence..this guys a legend.
Nice box truck build. Having a really good set of orthogonal walls has to help simplify a lot of detail work.
Nice Rig Dale!
Wow, I love your truck because it is not only livable, it says this is home--very comfortable living. Enjoy.
I love the whole place, bed, kitchen, bath it is so warm and cozy
Hi Dale,
Your box truck is cool, because it is tailored to you!
I really like your bedspread, it's an eye catcher, it makes the room cozy and it's personal. I hope, it has a good story (you don't have to tell).
The only thing that I instantly thought about, is the color on the outside. 😂😉😋
Wow! This dude has a pretty cool set up, never thought of it but this one is really nice. Thanks for sharing.
Nice tour Michael, great to see Dale’s rig! Love the Berkey hack!! 👍✌️
I want this guy to be my next door rv neighbor and help me repurpose and think outside the BOX😉 to design me a cool box truck. Great build💝
I love the simplicityof Dale's design..having what's just necessary. Good Job!
My husband and I were seriously considering a box truck for our next home!! However, they don't come in 4x4 and where we will retire at in IL receives just enough snow that we will be doing a van build. I do love the Berkey "hack" as others have said! We have a Katadyn. Had we saw this video before our purchase we would have done something very similar! A spectacular build!!
I love these kinds of builds. You can make it yours without breaking the bank. I need that T-shirt in my life! I hope this man is having nothing but good times wherever he travels!
Dale always has the best shirts. They are all perfectly him living a great simply life.
@@navigationnowhere I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you for replying. It's always nice to know that you've been heard. Take good care!
I love this build and it's perfect size. He's comfortable and has all his needs taken care of. Most important is the opening from the cab to the back. That's a must have for me. I could live in this with my sidekick. 🐶
Mike, could you ask Dale if he helped Seven with a house project in Florida, seems like I have seen Dale on video before besides your channel and seen a tour of his box truck.. seems like it was with Seven ( he will know who I am talking about if it was him. ) Thanks!!!
Yes that’s Dale
♥️.....love your build Dale ..it’s layout is very sensible and just right for a single person . I love watching you with navigation nowhere and his build ..🤗
That's a great little camper. I like that he buys from Re-Store. You never know what you can find in that place.
LOVE THE RIG Dale - God Bless You!!
Extremely nice perfect build out Dale. Everything you did with this Build out is exactly what I want, simple, neat and roomy. Right on point 👌 💯
Great tour. I love seeing each person's innovative builds.
