Yes if the hip was actually dislocated but at that age they usually will slip the growth plate rather than break a ligament. Good radiographs will help to identify that.
Thanks for this comment. It certainly is a good comment. My experience has been that Ehmer slings applied with cotton tend to have more issues (slide off for one) that without. But I do agree the tape can then pull on the fur when removed. Sometimes we will cut the Ehmer over the lateral aspect of the limb and then cut the hairs from the bandage. When applied post surgery this is less of an issue as they are shaved for the surgery. But it is something to think about!
for me the best practice is to use fabric tape like this. with cotton or gauze roll first plus adhesive tape it usually slips from the thigh of the leg 😂. Many athletes use this tape to fix their joint too. maybe painful when remove but it works well 🎉

Use the cotton cast stuff FIRST so you don't pull out the fur! and it allows a bit of swelling at the paw area as well.!
