Kip, you REALLY do have some of the best tutorials on UA-cam. Very concise, great editing and your voice is very calming. And as Sage TX says, what really helps us is when something is not right and we can see how you "calmly" fix it. Thanks and please keep the vids coming. Carpe Diem! !! !!!
This was an excellent little tutorial on the new features. It's the little things they've done that really make this a step forward - the keyboard entry mode is killer !!!
Hahah, I saw the trailer. Looks great! So many questions, though. Like why it is a standalone, separate game when we already have MSFS 2020. It looks like a big update rather than an entire new title. Do all of my marketplace purchases carryover? 🤷 we’ll see!
I will add my endorsement to the excellence of this video (saved for future reference) as well as your excellent teaching skills. That intentional input error on the departure airport was very helpful in how to fix errors. 👍
Thank you so much for making all these tutorial videos. I really appreciate that you separate them into specific procedures as it's a lot easier to digest!
Terrific video, excellent review for me after upgrading to 650 IRL, then to G1000 in sim. Concise, accurate and informative . Thanks for the time and effort you have done to produce this video for us.
Always well prepared and professionally presented. Always a pleasure , to learn something from you. It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to create those high-quality instruction videos. Greetings from Germany, also called NEW GREENLAND.
Hands down best flight sim tutorials/vids on youtube, learned a lot from you and we seem to like the same style of flying, I see is been some months since last upload, I really hope you come back, in my sight you are very valuable and necessary for this community. Thank you.
Your videos on the new WT GNS 530/430 are really useful, thanks a lot! Would you consider doing a video demonstrating the missed approach, holding then making a second approach? I’d also be interested to see how to program an unplanned hold that you may be given on eg VATSIM, ie just holding at a random en-route waypoint?
1:28 simBrief is free and gives you not only a good route, but also a complete OFP with weights, fuel, alternates etc. Probably the best you can get is a simbrief/navigraph combo, but you don’t need navigraph to use simBrief.
Excellent video. You're a very good teacher, Kip. You explain things well. Like I said before, I'll have to wait on this as I use the GTN 750. They don't play nice together but they will in the future. I wonder when the Working Title folks will work on the G3000 again.
Happy New Year Kip! I agree with Sebastopolmark, these are some of the best tutorial videos around. I recently bought a plane with the 430/530 setup and watched your earlier videos, but my 430/530 has been updated so I had troubles following along. This video lines up great, but could you redo some of the earlier videos using the newer 430/530's?
I learned a LOT more ! Do you fly DC6 ? Giro Pilot got broken because of this new GNS430/530 version. There was a patch released, need to flying to see if all functions are restored.
IIRC several of the approach glidepaths are "broken" (I havent tested in awhile) but its one of my main complaints with MSFS -- ILS and LPV on several approaches are just broken, causing you to come in WAAAAAY too low. I don't think its a problem with the planes, I think its a problem with the nav data Asobo is using because I've seen it across multiple different planes, to include standard Asobo planes. I'm glad WT released the Garmin, but there' still a few things off. Nothing big just different from a real 430/530, but I'm keeping it in the realm of "sim-ism -- good enough" For anyone who cares, Garmin has a 430/530 trainer that's pretty good (and free). Pretty dated and it doesn't really allow you to "fly" approaches, the nav data is old as fuck so if there has been a lot of changes in the area you are planning on trying the fix names might be different, but its great for study. Most of it translates over to the Working Title stuff. EDIT: Out of curiosity, I just did the LPV approach at KEWK, as depicted in this video, in the "stock" Cessna 172 (analogue with G430/530) and the WT garmin, and it seems that one approach is fine. I haven't confirmed any others, nor any other other aircraft.
Kip thanks so much for great video on the ILS approach. I download the 430/530 free from the market on MSFS. I loaded the file in my community folder, but I cannot figure out to use in one of the planes in the MSFS 2020 hanger.
Hey Jeff, software in all 530/430's will be replaced with the Working Title software when you install it from the Marketplace, so that's all you need to do. You shouldn't have any 530/430 mods in your Community folder, just the Marketplace version. I have a getting started video here: ua-cam.com/video/Tjrb6153-ic/v-deo.html
Good morning: Flying the DC3 on msfs. How do you use the heading function on the Garmin 530. When I select “heading”, how do I enter the desired heading (which instrument/how to change). On the C172, the instrument and “bug” are clear; but I am confused in the DC3.
I have the Carenado M20R Ovation. My favorite GA. That plane has a Garmin 530 but does not have the capability of the NXI. And, no mater what I do the Vertical Navigation (VSR) does not operate. It does have separate gauge called the Altitude Preset. I'm trying to decrease altitude to replicate the VSR but appears buggy. Any comments?
Keep in mind on GPS/RNAV approaches, the glide path is only good to a certain point. There are SOME specific approaches that might have it to the ground, but in general RNAV/GPS approaches don’t have vertical guidance all the way down. Just thought I’d add that note
The Working Title team did put this capability in their new G3000/G5000 (it's part of the Sim Update 11 beta right now), so there's a chance they'll put the same functionality in the 530/430 and G1000, but I don't know for certain.
I've been flying the new retrofit DC-3 that comes with the 430/530 and trying to get the ILS approach to work. I'm able to get the localizer working but I cant get it to capture the glide slope and provide vertical guidance down to the runway. I've watched your video on ILS approach and followed every step and was able to do it in the C172 but I cant get it to work on the DC-3. Any help would be much appreciated
I've had that same problem with the DHC-6 Twin Otter. It did capture the Glide Path once, but usually doesn't. I guess the bugs will be worked out over time.
No, I mainly pick the routes with some help from Skypark and try to go around different parts of the country I don't normally fly in :-) And for this one I just made sure there was an LPV approach at the arrival airport. It's great to see people commenting on videos who live nearby the ones I've picked!
I understand that the autopilot switched to glide slope automatically, but I thought you would have had to select “approach” first. I couldn’t tell if the autopilot had an approach mode button.
Hey Chris, yes, I armed approach mode at 15:37 in the video after turning onto the final approach course. Pressing APR on the autopilot shows "GS" on the annunciator and will automatically capture the Glideslope (ILS) or Glidepath (GPS) when nearing the final approach fix at the expected FAF altitude. Hope that clarifies it :-)
my gnsis not switching to LPV like. When i get to mi IA my gns should have LPV written instead of TERM but this doesnt happen. Plz help. Instead it switch from TERM to LNAV and LNAV is blinking. And yes the airport i wanna land to HAS LPV I veryfied cuz 2months ago it worked FINE
If you're flying IFR, Navigraph is the best investment you can make IMO. They also have basic VFR maps as well worldwide. Besides that, I'm mainly familiar with flying in the US, where the FAA publishes all its VFR and IFR charts for the public. You could try something like chartfox.org/ to find publicly-available charts where you're flying.
I don't know where my stupid is but clicking the vnav button on the 530 does nothing for me. It makes a clicking noise but nothing else. What might I be missing?
Hmm, I'd start with making sure you don't have any other 530/430 mods installed in your community folder, like the PMS 530. If you're flying a 3rd party (non-Asobo/non-Stock) plane, go to the Marketplace and install the free "Garmin GNS 430/530" by Working Title -- it makes 3rd party planes use the new software.
That's probably the best bet to get IFR clearance with ATC -- while the NXi mostly works with requesting it via the ATC window, the 430/530 doesn't seem to work often for me. If you're using SimBrief, you can export the "FS2020" (PLN) file and import that into the world map to save time. Do that with the "more" menu at the bottom of the world map, then "load/save", and choose the exported PLN file from SimBrief.
Glideslope and glidepath guidances work independently of the baro setting, so unfortunately it was probably just a bug with the plane and needs an update.
If you mean using a lateral mode like HDG without a vertical mode, no, you can’t. A lateral and vertical mode are always active whenever autopilot is engaged.
Very good video Kip as a real world pilot I flew behind a G530 I hated it it was not very intuitive to me. However I came from the world of FMS systems to me it was easier to pick up a new brand of an FMS than the 530. Keep up the good work! 😁🛫 Oh I have phone number for you when you are ready to copy! It is about being VFR and penetrating the cloud deck. 🤣🛫 As for the glide path and the VASI lights not agreeing many times you will see on the approach plate the note that the Glide path is not coincident with the VASI.
Kipp, we miss you and your widens.
Leaving in your little mistakes is the MOST helpful things in your videos, as we all make mistakes. Best way to learn. Bravo!
Kip, you REALLY do have some of the best tutorials on UA-cam. Very concise, great editing and your voice is very calming. And as Sage TX says, what really helps us is when something is not right and we can see how you "calmly" fix it. Thanks and please keep the vids coming. Carpe Diem! !! !!!
I miss your Videos
This was an excellent little tutorial on the new features. It's the little things they've done that really make this a step forward - the keyboard entry mode is killer !!!
Again, thanks for this tutorial. The best, in my opinion, explanation about RNAV approach using the G530.
Kip, dust away your aviators, shine your helmet….there’s a new adventure come 2024. Let’s go baby!!!
Hahah, I saw the trailer. Looks great! So many questions, though. Like why it is a standalone, separate game when we already have MSFS 2020. It looks like a big update rather than an entire new title. Do all of my marketplace purchases carryover? 🤷 we’ll see!

It was a real accident actually 😂
The lil mistake was a pedagogical exercise 👍🏻
Thanks Cap!
Thanks for all the vids helping a new guy take things to the next level & breaking it down Barney style!
Thank you so much for making all these tutorial videos. I really appreciate that you separate them into specific procedures as it's a lot easier to digest!
So much detail and so easy to understand. Love it! Thanks.
I love the Black Square version a lot + King Air as well ! Thx for sharing
Another amazing tutorial! Thank you.
Thanks Drew!
Every video is a learning experience!
Thanks Kip.... I have the realsimgear 530 and 430 units in my home cockpit and this helped a ton.
Terrific video, excellent review for me after upgrading to 650 IRL, then to G1000 in sim. Concise, accurate and informative . Thanks for the time and effort you have done to produce this video for us.
Excellent. Nobody I have seen has explained The Vertical Navigation VSR on the 530 before. I suppose it applies to X-Plane as well.
Thanks!! I have been going crazy with the Nav!! I thought I was doing something wrong on the planning stage, now I know.
Always well prepared and professionally presented. Always a pleasure , to learn something from you.
It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to create those high-quality instruction videos.
Greetings from Germany, also called NEW GREENLAND.
Thx for replyoing previous question, I'll disable PMS50-gns530 mod :)
Fantastic tuition, thank you. You'll get me flying properly yet!
Your videos really useful, You're Excellent teacher Thanks a lot!
Another great video. Super helpful. Thanks!
Awesome video brother thank you 🙌🏼

Thank you so much. !
Great vid, love it!

Any possibility of you investing in the TDS GTNXi to make some tutorials for that GPS unit?

Nice vídeo! Thank you for help us
Do you know if we will have user waypoint function in GNS530/430. In Brazil we used this function a lot

Working title 430 530 is installed but it doesn't work in any plane unless I uninstall it and reinstall it every time.
The autopilot was still showing that it was on when you landed.
Do you need navigraph to do GA flight practically outside of the US? I'm not willing to spend more on flight sim stuff for a while
If you're flying IFR, Navigraph is the best investment you can make IMO. They also have basic VFR maps as well worldwide. Not sure on the baro value. The AP will fly the wrong altitude if the baro is not set correctly. May have been worth mentioning.
Glideslope and glidepath guidances work independently of the baro setting, so unfortunately it was probably just a bug with the plane and needs an update.
Can we just use “Heading” only with the 530/430?? If so how??
If you mean using a lateral mode like HDG without a vertical mode, no, you can’t. A lateral and vertical mode are always active whenever autopilot is engaged.
Thank you with your reply.
Time to do some missed approaches. ;)
