Can you imagine never hearing a song off the new album, or even just never hearing Radiohead before, and having this song unexpectedly melt your brain live at an MTV show? I would have died in that theater.
even as a professional photographer who shoots a lot of concerts, I have to agree that it's really refreshing to see the audience just enjoy the music.
I remember watching this performance live on MTV in ‘97. I was 19 years old, and I had just drunk two glasses of wine for the first time. I’m not sure if it was Radiohead’s music or the wine - probably a bit of both - but I was as emotionally uplifted as I have ever been from a live performance. I had never taken Radiohead seriously before this night because I had only heard the song “Creep”, and I wasn’t impressed. However, I was so impressed by this show that I marched down to my local record store and bought “OK, Computer” the next day. This began my now 26-year relationship with one of my all-time favorite bands.
because bands today pay more attention to partying and fame. Motley Cru are garbage live because they're drunk and high all the time.. yet Celine Dion nails it every time in Vegas.
It makes me unfathomably sad that I'll probably never get to witness them playing this song in person because of Radiohead possibly being retired for good, and because this is one of their older songs anyways so even if they aren't retired for good they probably wont play this song again. I've never been brought to tears out of the sheer beauty of something before, but I just know that if I had been in this audience I would've been SOBBING.
They’re apparently getting together to discuss the future of the band sometime this year. It could mean more touring, possibly a new LP, you never know.
The instrumental sections are just so perfect, the final one is such a tease, it ends just as it begins to reach its climactic height. I suppose it is like the bit on treasure maps where it says near the edge somewhere 'Here be dragons', leaving your imagination to run away with you and fill in the gaps. Still I could listen for another 5 minutes to that section even though I suspect they ended it like that on purpose.
the studio version is even more insane. here they only use a cabasa for the percussive bits in the first section. in the studio version, there's the cabasa, vibraslap and a shaker. the Rhodes piano is also played during the guitar solo part but you need to hear it closely. the shaker thing is also played at the ending of the song when thom sings "lalalala"
My first child was born in 1997 and I totally "missed" Radiohead while listening to Raffi and nursery rhymes. Now I am catching up, and I am obsessed. I listen to this particular epic piece of music daily.
He is abSOULutely brilliant in his natural ability of God given talent and has my own brain in a euphoric nostalgic bleed of tears when I hear him sing this song ..... The Jules Holland show is even better for Audio Visuals that make this become one of best songs live ever . And I'm vain with music on many levels of the fact I rather here myself play over anyone else's most of the time .... Not because of Fame and fortune but more self in much deeper admiration to those who write the songs play and vocally pour the soul out like blood from cut veins !!! The whole band become Genius and like no other because of this Masterpiece .... Thank you all before us who invented the instruments we don't give much credit to except on credit cards and hard earnings .
Sounds like Thom is just strumming a straight C power chord through the very last section, never heard him do that on any other performance of this. It sounds cool tho.
The bone crushing beauty of Jonny Greenwood's playing is unreal. I can hardly believe I got to live in an era with music of such power and beauty.
I was 14-18yrs old in greatest 4yr period in all music genres.
Especially Rock n Roll.

Vaporized and blown away.

i love looking at people in the crowd without phones having to film everything, just hands in the air.

I preferred Pa looney and the Bends iwantedto see them play at Glastonry at around 20 years old.
I love it when a band can actually sound exactly like the record! This is brilliant! Perfection...
Love the way they incorporate the little shakers and other percussive bits into the live performance
Phil should have won many awards for his drumming on this song

i love that the production puts a blue light on all the performances of this specific song, it reminds me of the colors of the album
One of the most important bands in history
This was played at my new borns funeral in 2005, such a beautiful song
❤
Sorry to hear that..
Thanks, such an awful thing to happen to anyone. This song was a classic then and still is today..
Great song, awesome band.
😩❤️❤️❤️

so sorry for your loss
Just a wonderful performance
Maybe the greatest song ever.
They are not band players but music artists who are involved in music greetings from Indonesia
They pulled off that “rain down on me” part with the double vocals pretty damn good!
the first time I listened to it, it looked strange, but over time everything became very beautiful and charismatic
God I miss our music so much
I saw one of the shows from this tour back in 1998 and to this day it is still the best concert I have ever seen in my life. Astonishing.
I really, really love this band !! ❤️🔥
Absolute quality as always, Radiohead up there with Floyd as masters of music
They sound exactly studio perfect during a live performance. That's something that just doesn't exist anymore.

No auto fucking tunes!!
@@OutOnTheTiles I can only imagine Tom's outrage of pop in general, let alone in 2022.
There are still a few bands who perform insanely good live, Muse for example.
@@SP-qo3pd he kinda appreciates some pop nowadays, at least in interviews he talks about it, but about the sound here, the mix is like magnificent

when he does it live, it just elevates the song a whole nother step
The sound quality in this is amazing, the best band out there 🎸💯👍
To have a courage to play such a complex song live - and to have skill to perform it perfectly - that means to be Radiohead.
i seriously think this is the best ever version of this song and ive spent almost 30 years listening to it

@@TheOzman1989 Agreed. I’m 5 for 5 as well
Everytime I have seen them live they have played it.

Musical talent right there
The layers of this song are incredible. It's no wonder why student orchestras are picking this song to arrange.
