The first part of the tip is so true. I recently bought a plastic ball because I couldn't stop my aggressive ball from hooking away from the 10-pin. I was skeptical at first, but i've been throwing the new plastic ball with the same wrist action and amazingly, the ball does not hook and I'm now more accurate than ever on 10 pins, 6-10's, and even the 6-9-10.
