  • Misty Gilbert speaks about how we can shed our masks and embrace our pain to authentically be ourselves.
Misty W. Gilbert was born in Paso Robles, California and currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas. As a transformational coach, writer, and speaker, her mission is to inspire and assist people to create the lives they want by living purposefully. Her powerful story through abuse, rejection, fear, and inauthenticity, evokes both pain and courage as she vulnerably shares her path to freedom. She boldly calls others to take the steps to overcome their own stories and shares how embracing pain is the key to leveraging the freedom they desire. She teaches living authentically, courageously, and abundantly to embrace freedom through the power of choice by escaping the limiting beliefs around fear, shame, guilt, and regret. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This is such a powerful talk and it hit me really deeply. I am currently struggling to find authenticity after a lifetime of abuse and living in fear. Thank you for being so vulnerable, courageous and real with the world. I hope I can do the same.

Authenticity and Vulnerability is not common these days unfortunately. Too many people want to be accepted not knowing that vulnerability and authenticity is two of the most powerful qualities to have.

Overall we are improving as humanity, patching mistakes and fixing up the things we messed up, and experimenting along the way, some may lead to benefits and other leads to failures which ( hopefully ) will get patched up later

Uniqueness is obvious and the most natural thing. The reason people need to listen to videos like this is because they gave away their personal power (or someone took it and they are dealing with that trauma) and now have to work at the opposite extreme.

Experiencing our 'uniqueness' is a wonderful thing, but it is not the whole story; experiencing how we are constrained is just as wonderful. The beauty of a lion and clam are equal although one proclaims loudly, "I AM A LION" while the other conceals a treasure of great value. You don't have to "come out" to be authentic. Just be aware.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My point: People confuse having a weak will with being inauthentic. Authentic people are reflective people who continue the hard work of seeking wisdom in a time when pop-psychology rules.
