That D-28 has a beautiful sound, it's full, even and very loud. Carl seems to bring out the best in any instrument he plays.

I've just a very similar thing as I was watching the clip. Seems to know what guitars need to hear all aspects like overtones and sustain and balance etc. Playing is always fantastic

@@thefisherman2837 true. What amazes me is the tunes are made up on the spot, Carl's creativity and musical knowledge is unreal.

While I always enjoy bluegrass, I honestly think other forms of music (like this) really highlight the magic of a guitar. This one is absolutely beautiful!

I agree, sometimes bluegrass sounds too much like shooting a machine gun or operating a jack hammer.

Bluegrass is the crack cocaine of guitar playing. Great to show playing ability, but not always great to hear.

What a superb sound from that old, well played in wood. Nice to hear a guitar being played with the respect it deserves and not thrashed to death.

This beauty is astounding, what a tone and full sound. My new reimagined D28 has the same fat overtones and she is only 1 year old but played for hours each day. The forward shifted bracing in both this old 28 and the new reimagined 28, really let the bottom end of the guitar resonate freely. I just hope my new 28 sounds as rich as this beauty as she ages. Gorgeous... What a guitar!!

I strongly believe these Martin folks are going somewhere...lol. What an amazing tone on this box, sweet playing my friend. There sure is that " thing " to Martin's of the 30's and 40's hungh? Magical...

Wow, what a composition that was! To me, it sounded like what I imagined that guitar would want to play...very deep and nuanced.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but do you guys have a standard brand/type of string you put on your demo guitars? If so, what do you use? Cheers. Great playing as always.

We typically default to standard D’Addario phosphor bronze strings, light gauge for mid and small body, medium for dreads. Exceptions of course for delicate vintage parlors and the like that might get silk and steels!

Wow a 1936 herringbone D28 the holy grail of acoustic guitars. I’m not interested in the price as this piece of history made at a time when they chose the Brazilian for its sound as opposed to looks and seasoned Adirondack from a time when Even the trees had more time on their side before man had the capacity to destroy the Earth is priceless.

    Now that's some playing, , , and isn't a melodic Neil Y. quote heard >
"Songs fill the air but there's nobody there just an old wooden guitar playing."
Well hardly a coincidence, , , or perhaps it is. .

Sounds not nearly as good as most of the super high end dreads on TNAG - At least that's my take-away. I suspect all the other commentors are listening with their imaginations and eyes, before their ears.

    • @BlindTom61

The strings are new and still very crispy. But if you cannot hear what is going on underneath the brittleness, you are missing a treat.

Very good d28. Some pre wars will blow away those super high end dreads you talk about. Some aren't as amazing. The strings are cleary also brand new. If you can't heat what's behind that, I can't help you. Still an exquisite example
