For those that find this doin' waaaaay too much ... CA Licensed Cosmetologist here. The easiest method for those who can plat their hair, go through and make small boxed braids throughout your entire head, grab the ends and slide your fingers down, where you find it starts to get thin, feel rough, knotty, at that point, you trim. It will yield anywhere from and 1/8th of an in to possible a 1/2 an inch depending how you take care of your hair and protective styles. She said it your styles depend on how your hair will react. But trimming is a must. I hope this helps. Not that her method is wrong, it's just too much to do when trimming.

Love your search and destroy method. I have a hard time pinpointing which hairstyles my hair's not feeling. (I'm pretty sure she doesn't like wash n go's either.) Any others we should be looking out for?

In terms of styles to look out for, I feel like it may be different for everyone so it’s really a trial and error type of thing 😊 styles are just 1 of many things that can cause single strand knots/split ends etc.
