    Interesting how well the foils handle rough conditions. As a newbie to the sport, handling chop has been the most challenging skill.

      Yes, these guys make downwind foiling look easy 😎

    2:50 one guy has a hydrofoil with paddle, one without paddle. so does the guy w/o paddle only use his feet for pushing ? are both foils very different in build ? the paddlefoil seems a bit bigger.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому +1

      The guy without the paddle is Ryan Funk. He launched from the boat with a small prone board without a paddle. His run technically does not qualify as an unassisted SUP foil downwind run but it looked like he had a lot of fun.

    Don't understand why they call it stand up paddle racing,due to the sizes of the boards,it should be properly labeled at stand up canoe racing.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  4 роки тому +1

      The dugout boards lower the center of gravity so you can ride narrower boards. They look a bit like canoes but you are still standing up on them.

    whats the extra lip on the sunk in deck BP board ??

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому +1

      That’s to deflect water coming over the nose to keep it out of the dugout cockpit.

      These are the results: pseresults.com/events/1022/results
      Connor was on a Custom unlimited, James Casey and Marcus Tardrew on custom Sunova Unlimited dugouts, Ty Judson and Nathan Cross on custom 18' x 24" Blue Planet dugouts, not sure about everyone else.

    how do the foilers do compared to the regular SUP boards?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому +2

      Kai Lenny finished the race in 2:17 on a foil while Connor won on an unlimited board in 3:19, so the foils are significantly faster. These are the finish times: pseresults.com/events/1022/results

      Wow, I've seen hydrofoil sailboats like the Moth, but I didn't know there were paddle hydrofoils.

    With a 3-4 meter double paddle would be much better.
