thank you, you are the only one who explained clearly how to get water out of the engine. it might seem obvious to some but not to me until your explanation.
Hey Mike, recently found your channel and subbed. I had never heard of battery or trolling motor board possibly being compromised by leaving the trolling motor plugged in. I had noticed my TM battery losing some charge by leaving it plugged in and was wondering why the discharge. I will check voltage again after just unplugging mine to see if that was the problem. Thanks for your informative channel.
Yes Sir. I had a friend lose the motor when it caught on fire from being plugged in for a long time. The charger just cooked it. I personally have never had any issues and used to leave it plugged in indefinitely, but after hearing so many stories I just unplug it.
Oh this is epic I’m your 400 like and I’m sorry I broke 69 but I just bought a boat literally today and I’m going to fish year-round and was wondering how to take care of my board thank you for your videos
Thanks Mike. Good info. I just bought a small boat and 30 hp Suzuki. Have never had a 4 stroke. We are in western NY… it can get a tad chilly for a bit here. Once the boat gets out away, it’s not coming out for a few months…. Do you recommend fogging? Thanks for all of your info.
No flush. Outboards can drain completely so it’s not needed. I drain all wells and run the pumps dry for a few minutes pulsing on and off. My livewell pumps can run dry no problem. If you don’t think you’re getting all off the water out, you can add some RV anti-freeze that’s non toxic. If you boat stays in the water during freezing nights you can throw some antifreeze in the bilge and fish boxes. Be sure it’s non toxic, because it will eventually find its way into the lake or ocean. 👍👍
Nice. Hey, my hook reveal is not showing fish, I lower the transducer after watching one of your videos. But it only reads depth. Any suggestions. I like you, mean it!
Hello Mike, love the video and great information! How do you like your Zuke 350? How many hours to you have on it and have you had any issues? Curious why you went with the Zuke vs a Mercury. Any info would be appreciated.
1967 Chevy II LS3 For me, EVERYTHING comes down to reliability. EVERYTHING. I had a Suzuki when I was a kid and couldn’t kill it. I even ran it without oil a few times (accidentally) put a few thousand hard hours on it and it still runs. It’s nearly 35 years old now. It was an easy choice after that. The 350 behaves like a diesel, it has 12:1 compression and runs a fully loaded boat the same as empty. That was a huge surprise. The torque is crazy. Thanks brother!
Compressed air in the water jet outlet. It will blow all the water out. It is the only way I've found to guarantee you have all the water out of the unit.
Nice video. Thanx For The well explained tips. Q. If you treat The Fuel and keep The thank full, would you fog The engine For 4 months (nov-Aprill) Mi cold weather. Or can you stay w/o fogging the engine. No salt water. I forged the engine with oil in gas from Yamaha, starting was rough. Had to start and stalled 14-15 times, than Running ok.
I Personally do not fog. I fish year round. The boat does sit sometimes for a month or so. Some guys say you don’t need to fog, some do. It can’t hurt I guess. Suzuki told me directly that I don’t need any fuel stabilizer, even with ethanol because the boat never sits very long. You have the right idea keeping your tank full. You probably don’t need to do much more than I do because your boat doesn’t sit, but extra measures can’t hurt.
Great video as usual, Mike! One thing I caution you on is the use of dielectric grease. This is a non-conducive grease useful in preventing corrosion in connections of dissimilar metals. For electrical connections, other greases are available that serve the same purpose and are conductive.
I used to think the same thing then I had some bad things happen with conductive grease (short circuit). I would not use a conductive grease anywhere there was more than one pin. I found this web page that explains what I am trying to say. I am not very articulate. support.newgatesimms.com/how-electrical-connector-lubricants-work/
Mike could you please come to Lake Norman, Mooresville NC, A show us how you go to a lake you’ve never been before and find striped bass I think it will make an AWDOME!!!! Video. Thanks
I’ve actually been to Norman a bunch of times back in the NSBA days. We did well in a few tournaments there. Lots of numbers. You’re right though, it would make a great video to go to a lake I’ve never been to. I’ve done videos like that in freshwater, but never in fresh. I think I’ll do it! Thanks brother!!
Question for you I have a brand new 4 stroke 50 horse Mercury just picked it up about a week ago I ran some stabilizer through it but tank is full with stateful izer I live in Missouri so I take it your opinion would be not to fog the motor it does stay in a attached garage we have had some pretty cold nights I have a thermometer out there but hasn't got no lower than 38 with our weather here it was take rods approximately two and a half months of the year I enjoyed your video thanks
If it sits for long periods of time I would fog, so in your case, fog it. The connected garage does help a lot. You won’t get extreme temperature swings, which can really do some damage.
Hi Mike Gio here, a Northerner from the Western Long Island Sound. Great tips, I also disconnect the hoses from the water pump to remove any residual water. Up here we can dip into the teens, so out of an abundance of precaution I also put a little propylene into the water tank and Press the nozzle a bit to circulate it. I sleep better at night when I do this.
hello and ty for the posting . nice video, how do you winterize your fish tanks.? also my gs tank is 60%, that's is 65 gallons out of 105 apron. that's a lot of gas to be stabilized. should I drain 30-40 gallons and treat the rest.? ty much.
My boat is on a trailer so I simply drain every well and bilge only. If left in a slip I would add non-toxic antifreeze to the bilge and in every well and box with a drain. Not a lot maybe a cupful in each. The more full your fuel tank the better with gas with ethanol in it. Less condensation issues when tank is more full. The guys at Suzuki recommend keeping the tank mostly full if it will sit for several months. 👍👍
Great video, another tip that may help others, a leaf blower with nozzle removed is a nice way to quickly clear water from your hoses below deck. I use that for my 2 live well pumps, livewell drain and 3 bilge pumps. Within a minute or two all water is gone
Mike you ARE the man, you are one of only a few that take the time out of your day to respond to posts and questions. By the way your motor is bigger than my boat.
thank you, you are the only one who explained clearly how to get water out of the engine. it might seem obvious to some but not to me until your explanation.
Thanks brother!!
Good quick tips. Being up in NJ we do the fogging and hard weatherization.
Dennis Bott 👍👍👍
Good video with a lot of great information!!
Thanks brother!
I like to use a spritz of corrosion X when I see any green corrosion starting,it removes the gunk and leaves a protective coating on it
👍👍

Mike where can I by the salt sray you use. I tried Amazon but could not find it. Thanks
A lot of work having a big fishing boat aye? Totally worth it tho😂😂👍

Mike, you have a gorgeous boat. Love the channel... lots of great fishing and information as well...
Thanks brother!!! We are REALLY loving the boat and motor!! Sea Pro 248 and Suzuki 350 is a dream rig!! Thanks for the kind words!!

Fog it
Thanks brother!! Not many people fog 4 strokes, but it can’t hurt.
Hello and ty for the video. Do you flush engine with Marie. Coolant? How about the fish thanks.

Can you tell me what bait to use and where I can get a guide to go striper fishing
Shoot me an email. I know quite a few guides in that area. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Mike, Little off topic but... Do you have your Motor Guide Xi5 connected to your Simrad Evo3. If so do you like it?
I don’t have it connected, I ran the wire, but never got the gateway. I’m sure I will eventually. Sorry I can’t help.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERSThanks Mike, Your videos are great!
gonedeepseafishing Appreciate that brother!
I was literally going to ask you about all this!
👍
Do you add fuel stabilizer during the trips ? thx much

I agree totally, I use Noalox joint compound grease on single connectors and on the battery. Thanks for the info brother!

@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERSmy concern is about the tanks pumps, I may need to find the inlet of each tank and suck antifreeze trough each pump.
I've owned boats for 40 years, never had an outboard until now, thanks for the tips!
Awesome!
Do you run any antifreeze inside the engine or just straight water, does the water freeze?
Nope. When you lower an outboard all the way down the water drains entirely out. Inboards and in-outs are different.

Can you please put a link up or tell me what folding landing net you use?
It’s a Frabil folding net. I use the Musky net for the Chesapeake. 50lb plus fish and the larger Walleye/Pike model for everything else.
I winterize by backing the boat about 6" deeper in the garage.
diejeffy 🤣
I just wanted to know what kind of fishing rod do you use to fish with
Striper Stealth MH.
You need a microphone Dude...!
