I’ve always felt the rivals have just kinda been...there except for Blue in quality and character. Just a bland repeat of the ones before them. But Sword and Shield developed Hop, Marnie, and Bede as characters and as rivals excellently. Props.

Because of his impatience and determination to be like his father, he's constantly 5 steps ahead of you. He motivates you to keep getting stronger so you can keep up with him and he even teams up with you against the evil team, something no rival before him has done. Barry was, in many ways, a friend rival done perfectly. Until Sword and Shield came along and it's rivals now give him a run for his money. While I do agree that Blue has a lot of character development, he was pretty boring as a rival.

Tbh they’ve been using the same double kick animation since 2002, two hops and a foot mark on the opposition after each hop. Same with hops arm pulse thing that Hau did aswell. SwSh isn’t bad but GameFreak are just lazy I think
it’s really faint but i love the counter melody you added in the second half. it really adds a lot of weight to the piece and was certainly missing from the original. amazing!

Making use of the VRC6 for your chiptunes gives you clearly an advantage as demaking songs still make those keep a certain depth regular NES/Famicom and MasterSystem/MarkIII style chiptunes can't provide. Nice done, indeed one of the more awesome tracks in the games, along with Sonia's theme.
