I started getting sucked into those readers and was getting paranoid. Then I read a few articles that basically say 95% of those readers are false inaccurate and that they simply don't work, so i tossed them all back or out and no longer pay attention to such things. I treat it like the newest fad to keep people worried and buying things. The only thing I've changed in my life as far as that goes is to open windows or go outside every so often more and just generally don't sit in confined spaces without fresh air for too long. Why concentrate on numbers like that too much? It's just going to cause anxiety....just practice being aware of getting fresh air more often
I think federal auto regulations says all cars must allow 20% of recirculated air to come in from outside
That seems like a good mandate to have. Honestly a safety concern if you start getting drowsy drivers from lack of O2.
Thanks for the comment!

First video i ever found that is so practical and straight to the point... Thanks a lot for the video 👍
Figured it wouldn't be a super popular video but glad it's helping those who are interested!
Super interesting! This is why i did the van blower mod like you did for at least a tiny bit of circulation in the van
I did end up measuring overnight CO2 levels in the van and they were close to 6,000ppm with all windows closed and no ventilation fan.
I make sure to sleep with a window cracked or the blower mod on a low speed at minimum now!
(Forgive my grammer) I ended up taking a nap in my car and I could not wake up no matter how hard I kept going into a dream state where I was searching for cool air and water and I couldnt find it until idk why i heard shane from the walking dead yell at me to wake up and freaked out and ended up waking up sweaty and barely breathing. I ended up opening my car door and jumped out to breath and cool off and it so happened that a grass sprinkler was on so I drenched myself entirely to wake up more. Becareful out there guys its an effing terrifying feeling
CAN I OPEN THE F ING WINDOW YET???
This is very valuable info we never think about! Thanks
I heard/learned that O2 needs CO2 in order to get pushed into the cells. That’s why nasal breathing is recommended. Slows the loss of CO2. ofc, I’m sure there is a ceiling for that amount.
I can remember back in the day when I had my hair that long. I can dig it! Good helpful video Thanks for the video Tim☮️❤️
Asthmatic here, seasonal allergies as well. So being in areas that are prone to lowering in available oxygen impacts me greatly. This explains my sudden drowsiness after sitting in car on a drive for a small amount of time. Also, if you have a four way gas reader, it can / have alerted me to the decreased amount of available oxygen in my car. Interesting
Thank you for doing this
This makes me want to buy one of those sensors and bring it with me everywhere now. I would love to see what readings are when there is air-quality alerts via the weatherchannel. Cool video! Glad no-one died! :D
It's wild seeing how quickly the levels change. I love traveling around with it.
If someone enters the house I can watch the levels jump ~500ppm within 15 minutes.
Had a get together at my parents place and the levels were up near 7,000ppm in their house. Spooky!
@@VanwithTimdo you have a link to the sensor you used?

Hi Tim! It doesn't surprise me all that much that you moved to air quality area, especially if you are sensitive to it like me. I assume you are in USA California so you have some issues with factory pollution and forest fires? As you found out air quality is a broad issue with many surprises to how it works. I dont know if any of my experiences will help you in any way tbh, because as you mentioned CO and CO2 pollution is kinda different but ill give it a go.
In Europe every single city is under siege from pollution at winter unless you are at least 5 km away from the city. And i wont even mention pollen issues. For my apartment i am using xiaomi 3c. I didnt found it to remove odor, i am also in polen free area so no experience with it too, but with coal and firewood pollution it has worked magnificently, i never had another swollen throat even with 120 to 180 AQI outdoor air in january.
I have to say, coal pollution with 120+ AQI is much different from firewood with the same AQI. I dont know if its based on science but coal pollution smells differently, stains windows and it is FAR more aggressive to trigger reaction in my throat.
That being said, i would like to return a favor from sheer amount of knowledge you shared and tell you how indoor purifier works in my experience the best. All windows are shut, from moving out and moving in the apartment or opening widows "cloud" of pollution enter the area, purifier on auto triggers the fan to increase speed and removes the particles. Xiaomi or any air purifier imho works terribly at sleep mode, 15 mins of low speed cleanses more air then "night mode" turned 24/7, it doesn't have strength to move air . Even in such a small area like van i doubt night mode can disturb air to move it through a filter.
If you go with route of picking some air purifier, i would go with with more reputable brand like philips because filter technology details is based on "magic" and i have more faith in a known company to not make any shortcuts.
Hope it helps!
Well put!
In southern california now and yes it gets pretty nasty outside.
The AQI is such a finnicky rating system (especially when looking at the actual particle matter in the air, both the 2.5 micron and 10 micron levels)
Check out this site for a good read! smartairfilters.com/en/blog/difference-pm2-5-aqi-measurements/
True HEPA filters will filter all PM2.5 and PM10 particles - searching around at air purifiers it seems most are simple fans with a HEPA air filter. The purifiers like you have that actually sense the AQ and adjust fan speed are top tier (although the low fan speeds move hardly any air as you pointed out).
In commercial environments, outside air is blown into the building through an air filter. Otherwise you'll have issues with dangerous CO2 levels depending on the budlings occupancy level.
The problem even with HEPA filters is they don't filter out the gasses in the air, just the particles. You'll need a filter with activated charcoal to help with gasses and odors unfortunately.
It's a fun subject that leads to quite the rabbit hole of information haha
I feel like you'd run out of air really quick if you are just sitting in your car with the engine off and windows shut.
That would be an interesting one to test
Would try that on a cooler day, unless you want to burn up inside.
Holy hair! I'm jealous! 😁
Haha I can appreciate your “low maintenance” approach though 😅
Think you’ll be making your van purchase soon? I know the market is way over-inflated right now.
