    Good video.. I have a lot of rock in the soil...raked and cleaned what I could. I am cutting the old pond liner in strips and using it as an underliner to protect new liner. Didn't know about a potential bubble affect... Good tip. Thanks.

      Your better getting old carpet plus and some underlay on top again; use the old liner rather instead as an overlay to protect the new liner from any rocks you may add, keeping the rocks away from the new liner.

    Hey Eric good choice on the topic. I had done that mistake of putting 2 liners on top of each other and as you said it was a disaster. i am doing all 3 of my ponds into concrete and one of the reason i done so is because of tree roots. All my 3 Ponds are sitting under trees but i don't mind doing some quick leaf cleaning every day.
    i will send you some photos as soon i will be done with all the work i would like to get some feedback from you.
    Keep it up with the good work your tips are always helpful :)

    For removing sod, another great option is to start a garden bed using the Lasagna Gardening Technique. You start by turning the sod upside down, and layering it with leaves, peat moss, straw, manure... etc. You can cover it with black plastic or even newspaper and let it perk through the winter (or whatever season!) Although in our area it might be a little too hot and need a little water in the summer and no black black plastic, just newspaper! Basically it's a lazy man's compost pile!
    You can also plant right away without mixing, plants love it!

    This same question is asked over and over again on the pond forum sight .If it is old take it out and what is great you may have usable pieces for small ponds for frogs or for extra plants .I used my piece for a lotus, lily, frog pond and just put an air stone in it .I also used a piece to put in one of my large wooden baskets I build and it made a nice place for a lotus plant .I just cut the bottom out of the liner .Grass was used to fill in bare spots and low spots in my lawn .

    Take the old liner out and put it to the side; then put the new liner in and wait 48 hours after that hose down the old liner and then put it on top of the new liner making sure there is no sharp objects between them. The advantage of putting the old liner in top is that if you are going to put large rocks in your pond they are sitting on the old liner and not coming in contact with the new one, so adding an extra barrier of protection. You can cut up the old liner into sections to make it easier to lay as the old liner doesn't need to be water tight.

    is it okay to lay pond liner over a prefab pond . my prefab has been downloaded on one side from my Stones being on it but I don't want to pull it out and reshape it I thought I can just leave a liner over it

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  4 місяці тому

      Sight unseen I would say pull the old prefab out before the liner goes in

    I have a pond. And we have 5 koi fish. But we can't ever see them. Because they are always hiding under Lilly pads and rock formations. Is there anything I can do to make them more sociable?

    Will it be ok to flex seal a liner. My plan was fill pond , see in the morning where it goes down to, then flex seal all around the line up to the highest point I want the water to go to?

    I have been following your show for some time. Question: Last winter in Michigan I lost most of my large KOI due to winter freeze, even with air bubbling to open the ice. I just finished a 12,000 gal pond off my deck how do I prevent this from happening again?

    also my liner is under a few feet of water and there are no rocks covering it so will that let the sun make it brittle?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому

      Jordan Typhair The UV from the sun has little to no effect on the liner below three feet of water. 45 Mil EPDM liner is rated for 20 years exposed to UV. You will be fine for decades.

    Hi Eric i need some help. I was planning to turn one of my ponds into a cichlids pond and was planning to do it with aquarium plants such as amazon swords, anubis, java ferns and other types now what i need to know is would a CO2 Diffuser work in a pond ?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому

      Ian Douglas If you are growing these plants outdoors you shouldn't need the CO2. Give them sun, fertilize the plants with tabs and feed the fish. The plants should go crazy!

    Hey Eric! I heard koi will eat plant that you would keep in your pond. :( Is that true? and if true will gold fish or cat fish eat water plants? I hope they don't eat water plants!!!

    #theponddigger Hey Eric! I have seen your fantastic helix water fall but I am wondering if you need to have a skimmer to have a water fall? And also witch water fall cleans your pond water the best?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому

      +Jordan Typhair Hey Jordan! I would purchase a skimmer before a waterfall filter if I only had once choice! Then I would run the water to a bog filter! The best waterfall filter is a combo of the mechanical filter and the bio filter. Helix BioMech Reactor Waterfall Filter. It is a combo filter!

    #AskThePindigger Has the drought affected your business? If so has it been affected in any positive fashion other than conservation?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому

      Musabe009 At this time we have not felt an effect on our business because of the drought. People are becoming more aware but are still wanting water features! We are in fact working on a lot of ponds with leaks that clients would otherwise not care about. People with leaky old ponds are wanting them fixed!
