Actually, I find it annoying. He calls her by her last name, Akamatsu, and they sub it wrong and make him call her by her first name. When he actually gets to call her by her first name for the first time, they sub it with "sweetheart." It literally loses the original impact... Why do they do this!?
@@PrinceDolos It’s uncommon for Japanese people to use first names with each other. It's reserved for family members, romantic partners, close friends etc. But in Europe we don't have something like that, so that's why they changed: Kaede = Sweetheart Sweetheart = Akamatsu

@@vivid.qreams1508 well you see that’s a tricky question, if you mean their relationship when they were on the killing game it definitely was toxic, if you mean their relationship on island mode and of course after V3 events then they grew up on that and became healthy, komahina is something that developed through the story and it would be kinda wrong to ignore all they have gone through and just focus on one part of the plot to categorize it as just toxic
It's weird because they already call each other by their names on the english version, but in the japanese version they call themselves by their last names. So in the english translation Shuichi calls Kaede "sweetheart" to symbolize the big change from calling her "Akamatsu-san" to just "Kaede". What a mess, lol.
Because in japanese kaede akamatsu is flipped to akamatsu kaede and usually in japan people call by first name/family name which is akamatsu san unless they really close to that person and call them by given name "kaede" , i think

I used to be one of those weebs who would always shit on English dubs without even giving them the chance because Japanese is ALWAYS better than English no matter what definitely..
