I have a story. I am currently in a homeless shelter and was invited by another person non black race to attend this church. I was going to the church for five months consistently. This was an all white church. No one treated me badly but I could sense a slight uncomfortableness from the people. Fakeness with kindness. One day the original person that would pick us up from the shelter went out of town so the pastor agreed to transport us. On the way back the pastor ask me only why was I in the shelter? When I tried to answer him he cut me off and told me that there are two reasons why a person is in a shelter is that they are on drugs or crazy. Then he cleans up his statement and says allegedly cause he realizes that he was defaming my character. I never returned to that church nor have I talk to that pastor. The person in the shelter that invited me to this church and was also present in the car when this conversation went on later called the pastor and spoke against what was said. That pastor has not yet apologized to me. Irony of this story is pay attention to people's behavior, words and body jester, it may save your life.

One of the most amazing subtle details in this movie is that cop scene. At first watch, we just assume that he's being racist and biased towards Chris when asking for his ID, and we praise Rose for standing up for him. But then we realize the truth later, that Rose was preventing the cop from checking his ID and and having Chris put in the system that he was involved in a road incident. That way the cops wouldn't notice if he went missing later on, if they got a missing complaint from someone, and kept her operation in the shadows.

It really doesn't. The hidden symbolism and racial tensions are just forced in between really random and pointless concepts, at best the concepts in the movie are a stretch. There are plenty of movies that have handled these concepts fluidly, this movie just feels like an indie film project which is basically what it is. It's jarring, far fetched, and hackneyed. They could have done this movie without all the goofy pseudo sci-fi horror body snatching nonsense. In fact, the goofy side plot completely undermines the message Peele seemed to want to tell, I'm sure more people talked about surface value topics of the movie like jump scares and creepy scenes than anything remotely close to what Peele actually intended for the movie.

As a person who grew up in the Caribbean, where we learn about Slavery very young, the most triggering scenes were the "auction" scene as I had an idea that's what it would be before the camera panned out and also the fact that he "picked" cotton from the chair to pretty much save himself .. we all know Cotton is the thing that kept us captivated for so long and was the thing that saved him in the end. There were so many subliminal messages and themes throughout that most people might have missed unless they knew about Black History. It was a great film that should be watched multiple times to fully understand what it's really about.

Too many black people dies in their company. At a party. Breaches. College parties, churches. And in board daylight or late in the nite. And the Policeofficers at a traffic stopping. I have seem them beat up black young men for no reason. They are always bullying black men. @doublestufffforeo123 Yes, the actress is from "Girls" where she has the role of a nice girl, that's exactly why Jordan chose her and that's why you have the feeling that she will rebel against the family for Chris.

  • @Navaura
    @Navaura Рік тому +483

I think the family didn't expect Chris to mentally overcome the the psychological challenges he faced because he did not realize what was occuring but in the end he was able to. It required him to respond in a way he knew how. He had to become violent to save his life. I also don't think his friend was confused about what he understood about the daughter. His observation was spot on and he tried to warn him to the max about her. He recognized what his friend was dealing with even when the friend himself didn't. He is a depiction of someone who may be perceived as weak and stupid and even immature but his psychological awareness was way higher than Chris because spent a lot of time suppressing what he already know. How many black people have friends like this. Seem immature and lacking but are intelligent at assessing situations.

however, my take is that the discussion of "meanings" is not an exact science, but one of interpretation. i took a couple points differently (again---doesnt mean "right," "better"--interpret). i saw the "controled/tearing-up" Af Americans as representing the ideological "deadness" of this period, an ideological dominance of "accomodationist over struggle" of this period. We can see a direct historic line of ideological struggle between those two positions w/in Af American people's mvt, rep'd by Booker Washington (accomodationism) vs WEB DuBois, (struggle) originally. This period is a period of 'retreat,' ideological accomodationism. "My take" (again, just that) that i saw the two ygr Black protanganists as rep'g a (hopefully) newer/ygr generation that can bring people's struggle back to the forefront. The clearly new/unfinished nature of the plot shows one protanganist (i see present day Af Amer "ldrshp") going blindly to the den of our racist/corrupt ruling class, while another part (a bit ruffled, but more intellectual, "working class/real people, "open eyed") sector knew what they were, had NO illusions about the true nature of our ruling class, called out warning to his friend/brother to be aware of what they were, not to let them take over/destroy the people's conciousness. The "wide-eyed/bushy-taled" actor/sector of the people--PoC listened to the siren song of the ruling class, walked blindly into mouth of the beast, only at the last minute fighting/ie uniting w the people! PLEASE---love to hear other thoughts!

The history of human experimentation on black people is chilling b/c, esp as the US moved further into the 20th century, the entire plan relied on its audacity. What regular white person is going to believe - or care at the time - if black folks were being taken off the streets, never to be seen again? And by a hospital? 'What an insane notion,' say the authorities. 'Why, it's so crazy that we don't need to look into it any further.'

Another hidden message in the movie is also when Rod goes to the police station to report Chris & Andre Hayworth (abducted in the opening scene) as a missing person. The authorities laugh at this statement not taking further action to help Rod. It goes to show that when there's a missing Black person case it's never taken seriously or taken into consideration due to the stereotypes of Blacks being runaways. However when a there's any White person case it's national news with the family giving a press release & a platform to retrieve their missing family member or friend (case in point the Chris Watts case when he murdered his wife & little ones & the JonBenet missing case among others). Overall Get Out is such a phenomenal woke movie of the 2010s showcasing the social climate of what was alive and well up to now with subliminal historical pieces!

I have a personal experience with this movie which is chilling for me now that I look back. I am of mixed race and was married to a white European lady who insisted I watch this movie with her. it so happened that whatever was going on with Chris was what was happening to me in real time. This movie portrays the aspect of psychological slavery and the exotification of blacks by whites, especially in the case of white females who want to feel some sense of control by dominating black men in a relationship or marriage, and using them as a cover for their racial biases by displaying the fact that they have a black partner. Lived through it, I could not be controlled and got a divorce. I am not saying all whites are racist, but in Europe this happens on a very large scale. Some black immigrant men have failed to leave for fear of being threatened with deportation or loss of contact with their children. Just so you know, this behavior is typical of white women who are left leaning politically.

The guy made a small joke which would have granted a chuckle, which was my reaction. However, the remainder of the room starting uncontrollably laughing as if the guy was Chris Rock. A few even put down their books, leaned back like the dude was gonna perform an entire comedy set for them. It was pathetic and you can tell this guy felt awkward and uncomfortable as he was just trying to have a small talk conversation and all of a sudden there's a big spot light on him, with all this pressure to perform and entertain.

As long as we have guy’s like him and Kenya Barris to use their gift for cinematic arts to educate and inform the masses with shows like this and Black-Ish (Grow-Ish, Mix-Ish) combined with people like me who were raised to stand up against racist stereotypes and human inequality who raised their kids to to love every shade and complexion of a BEAUTIFUL human being from birth that has them acutely aware how childish, wait scratch that because kids are extremely intelligent often explaining things they don’t understand but want to way better than a Big 10 college professor with insanely thoughtful descriptions far more creative and authentic than any grown up could do with beautiful sparkles in their eyes to go with their curiosity so I’ll say it’s mind boggling, immature and idiotic to think this is still the conversation we need to have because my 11 year old Observable Universe Daughter Avery Everything is acutely aware of how silly and stupid you have to be to hate someone because of the color of their, race, cultural background, their geographical roots they didn’t get to choose any more than my daughter chose to be born in Chicago or me in Toronto. That’s really petty, in fact if you happen to be one of the intolerant people who had someone because of their race and language they speak do me a favor and redirect that hatred towards yourselves, your moms and dads for making you little sociopaths, your grandpappies and grammies, their great grand pappy’s who forced my Kokum into Birdle residential after kidnapping her from her own land, hate the white man for making you the idiots you are, hate them for what they did to my First Nation Aboriginal and African American brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, aunties and uncles, hate the Chicago Blackhawks for depicting a proud honorable chief Illinois banished from his land as the big nose caricature they have for a logo, hate the governments of Canada and USA for giving the Japanese Internment camps for all the work they devoted themselves to building the railroads you basic over privileged plain Jim’s and Jane’s ride. There are a lot of reasons to hate so I just want you to hate for the right reasons. In the meantime I know I can’t go to minority communities and bring change so I’m coming to your gated Caucasian communities to educate you, correct you, tell you you’re wrong about this and your wrong about that and for good measure if you have any extra hate in your heart hate the Jewish sociopathic calculated premeditated criminals my dad is stuck calling wife and son for the 6 years of crimes against humanity they waged against with foul play like putting rat poison in my drinks that caused 6 excruciating weeks of painful meningitis and followed by five strokes that took my mind and my movement away for 5 years during which they persuaded my wife to leave me for her elderly manipulative boxing coach profiting from Shelly knowing the brain trauma she is suffering from that had her diagnosed with post concussion syndrome with 5 opinions in 2012 but they still have her getting in the ring as Machine Gun Shelly who can no longer distinguish the difference between someone she hates and fears or someone she should be obedient to while my daughter cries for me confused as to why we’re being deprived of each other’s love or how the mother Robin and son Blaine are allowed to see their product of a viciously brutal rape blaine recorded since the law doesn’t apply to him or his mother but Avery can’t be around her doting daddy not knowing he was the intended target of a well planned elusive smear campaign because I stood up against the deranged things they were doing so they did whatever they wanted and I was left fighting for my life after becoming the first recorded survivor to walk around with meningitis for 6 weeks minimum and miraculously made a full recovery despite suffering one psychopathic premeditated attack after another. If you want to hate then hate those people or shut up because I have a long way to go before a bill is passed in DC. Hate the people who made you hateful because it wasn’t us!

i am not sure where I read this, but it was 10 -15 years ago. They were talking about the disappearing black and indigenous people. And how it was all purposefully overlooked and in the article they talked about shootings of young black men and there was the notice that some had organs missing. The awareness came when someone wondered why the corps had a scar where the kidneys are/were and from that found others killed with organs missing. Nothing would surprize me. I have read about other countries doing the same . Human beings can be vile.

I remember I saw a video of a white woman insulting her mixed daughter that " look at what your kind do, look at what your people do? I cried, I wonder what that child goes through and might be going through it right now, anytime I remember that video I feel sorry for that child. I wouldn't marry a person that would come to hate my seeds in the future that's why I call interracial relationships a WASTE OF LIFE, I have many mixed friends who also testify to this same trauma of their white parents just shitting on them and black people as a whole

Most of the young black girls missing in this country that I never found is due to Black market, organ harvesting. A lot of the black men that are killed by police are often pre-targeted, and picked out who are usually labeled as organ donors and harvested in that way also.

Hey everyone I wanted to tell a quick story to start off I'm 25 had a son and was homeless with my significant other we went into this homless program for housing owned by elderly white people. I got up everyday for work to get an apartment because that was my goal to stay focused and I got it to the glory of god. but we were living in a house that was for families they would do visits and all to make sure I was working and they would judge me all the time and ask my significant other if she's okay and side eye me all the time and try to make her talk against me behind my back because I was black. But needless to say once we moved these people started to pop up at my house to check on us and tell Me how to raise my son that's were they fd up so I told them you don't pop up at my house at all without calling me or my lover and they got mad and started plotting a way to split my family up but Goodluck with that I'm held in high honor with God so they can't touch me. Pray for me and my family because racism is real and they will do anything to tear a young black man down destined for success down thank you

this ain’t my place but I’m white and experienced racism/discrimination my whole life. And it’s never really been from black people. It’s been white people. In fact, once black people got to know me I always felt and was treated like a brother, and they didn’t care about the color of my skin. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a mixed white/black family with white and black cousins on my moms side, so I really relate to other races more than my “own” race. I may appear white but ethnically I’m mixed with Hispanic and Sicilian and of course European.
I always had NBA dreams, and always loved sports and fell in love with basketball. But often people would discriminate against me because I was white and they’d tell me I would never make it. When I wanted to rap I was told I couldn’t be a rapper because I was white. When people found out I was ethnically mixed I got called a Spick even if it was a joke and STILL to this day my own friends and people don’t believe that I’m Hispanic and I’ve always got told I wanted Hispanic and that I’m lying. I’ve always hated being white because deep down I know what it’s like to feel struggle and struggle with my black and white brothers. I know what it’s like to be discriminated against because of the color of my skin and be judged and told I won’t amount to anything and won’t succeed. I’ve always felt more of a connection to people of other races and white people are my least favorite race if I’m going to be honest. Lowkey I’ve always wanted to not be white, because I relate to other people more specially black people.

This movie is straight witchcraft guaranteed on the fact that old hag an that hypnosis shit is doin that, total witchcraft.

What's funny is that many Black (men) that's in inter racial relationships said how true this movie is, but still wouldn't budge from their ww, or wm.... my experience in an IR was not a Get Out experience, but at times when we got around a lot of white ppl, I felt like something wasn't right. Most Black parents will tell you not to be the only one in the room, or in the town, or car, or party, etc...I would knew better to not get caught out there and I think I sabotaged that relationship because I didn't feel right especially around other Black ppl seeing us...

Folks did some research on the Assistant nd found he was taught in psychology nd mind altering medicine nd was also apart of the same branch of the CIA that was involved in Project Mk ULTRA in the 70s where the military psychologically tortured prisoners of war to the point their mental state was broken and docile.

The other thing to notice is the lack of facial hair on the Blacks that who's bodies were taken over/ about to be taken over. Remember that Andre had facial hair before he was kidnapped. I point this out because as a Foundational Black American, we were often liked down upon if we didn't have hair cuts (i.e. during the cornrows Era in the 2000s, I had cornrows but had to cut them to get a job. Now I wear dreadlocks). Historically speaking, in order to capitulate to the society, you had to erase the things that set you aside (via hair and your names), which is why notice that the black people who are elevated tend to have short haircuts (not even a fade, but again erasing part of your culture) and clean shaven.

True. Years ago I had donor on my driver's license. My sister found out and told me about a former governor of our state who needed an organ and a young black man who had been listed as an organ donor on his license. He had been murdered at the same time the former governor was fighting for his life, in need of a transplant. The young man had only been beat in the head, none of his organs were compromised and his murder has never been solved, except the usual drugs and gangs. Can you imagine that, a governor receiving the organs of a drug addicted gang member??? Yeah, right! Anyhow... The governor miraculously got his transplant, only to live for just a little bit longer and die anyway. Needless to say, I removed "Organ Donor" from my license. This was in the 90s and I do believe the former governor's name was Bob Casey Sr. The link is the cleaned up story.
