  • I've noticed a lot of folks trying to cover up things by calling them something else. I ain't never known a cow to produce soy milk or make a tofu burger.

I've been watching your UA-cam channel for quite a while now...you might have seen my response on another video. You and your wife Shannon are doing some really good work! Say Kent; You've scored another winner here. I'll have to agree with you on this latest Filly-Osophy segment. There was point in time when my wife was doing Almond milk. Well, I had to go to the store to pick up a few items for supper and my cell phone rings. My wife wants me to pick up a half gallon of Almond milk. When I get to the dairy section, I found exactly the same items that you mentioned. Of course I had to call her back because she hadn't told me which flavor of Almond milk to buy. There were so many kinds of "milk" I was getting confused and, I sure didn't want to drive back to the store in case I picked the wrong brand or flavor so I had to call her back to verify just exactly what she wanted.I'm still trying to figure out why all these artificial so called milk products are located in the *Dairy* section which should contain cow milk (whole and buttermilk), goat milk, cheese, butter, eggs, etc, etc.Sure wish we could have things normal in our country again. More ways than one.

I know what southern cooking is I was raised by a southern woman one of her many titles is Mom and I see my 81 year old mother every month. And keep up your good Country Cookin there it makes me hungry every time I watch one of them videos. It's always fun to go over across the country to North Carolina and visit my relatives. There's nothing quite like fresh whole milk, and traditionally made cheese. Sadly I can't enjoy it as much as I did growing up. Part of the reason behind all the alternative dairy products is people have so many food allergies. Thankfully my allergic reactions aren't as bad as some, so if I'm careful most of the time, I can eat a little bit once in a while. Also, I'm thankful for the alternative products, because dairy was a huge group of comfort foods growing up. Having something similar available is so nice. They even have dairy free ice cream now, so while folks are eating real ice cream around me after dinner, I can pull out my own and not feel left out, and I can enjoy the time spent with family without the consequences of a stomach ache in the night.
Thank you for all your videos Mr. Rollins! My dad found your videos on making cowboy coffee, and he enjoys making it here at home! It's now one of my favorite ways to have coffee, and I drank my first cup of it black. Any other coffee I need something in it to help with the acidity, but your cowboy coffee is excellent, and the only style I'll drink with nothing else in it.

    Dear Mr. Rollins,
I am fascinated to see your strong reaction on the not-milk bit in this video.
I hail from an archipelago called Indonesia. My country consists of many islands, where every island is surrounded with coastal areas, littered with coconut trees. As such, folks here have been using coconut in their time-honored culinary tradition, including processing the 'flesh' of its fruits into 'milk'. It is made by repeatedly soaking grated coconut 'flesh' in fresh water. The 'milk'-like liquid is used as an ingredient to give savory taste in soups, meat dish and even desserts. However, unlike actual milk, coconut 'milk' is never consumed as a beverage on its own, at least to my knowledge!
Now, from what little I've learned about Oklahoma, I understand that there is no coastal area there, being a land-locked State and all. That's why I reckon that anyone raised there might be surprised or confused about the existence of such coconut 'milk', because it was never in his/her cultural experience. I reckon this confusion has a lot to do with the things that are normally associated with the word 'milk' in the back of the mind of the person using/hearing that word. I can understand that to a person like you, sir, a hard-boiled cowboy with strong ties to your place of birth and its cultural expression, using the word 'milk' to describe something that doesn't come out from a cow's udder can be an affront to your sensibilities.
The national language of my country have two different words for cow's milk and coconut 'milk'. They are susu (pronounced as soo soo) and santan (pronounced as sun tun) respectively. The English language does not have different words to distinguish the two, because culturally, the concept of santan (coconut 'milk') is brand new. This is evident in how in Indonesian language, the word susu kedelai is used to denote soy milk (susu = milk, kedelai = soy). Soy 'milk' is a relatively new concept among my people, and the result is that they describe this plant-based beverage using the closest concept they understand: the thing looks like milk, but its made of soy - hence susu kedelai (soy 'milk').
What I'm trying to say is that it's admirable to have strong identity expression. But in this day and age where information, culture, and goods are exchanged like never before, it is easier to be open for 'new' concepts that we've never heard before. Who knows what we might find. Hey, it's kind of like when your lady, Shannon, introduce you to avocado. Failing that, you can always use the Indonesian word to describe coconut 'milk', santan.
God bless you and greetings from the ever-sunny South (East Asia),
    Your fan, Ari.

Gotta an orange butter story for ya! 14 yrs. old & 1st. job as a dishwasher... my manager had me making blueberry muffins when i wasn't busy. Also to go on the muffins, he'd have me whip up some orange butter. 1 can of concentrated orange juice, 2 lbs. of butter & powdered sugar to taste. What tickled me most was what he told the waitresses to tell the inquiring folks who asked where they came by the orange butter... He told them to answer "Form an Orange Cow." Here's the Topper... that Thanksgiving he had his bakery wife spray a 5' ficus tree with paraffin chocolate & hung candy canes on the limbs for the restaurant's Christmas Tree. Miss them Charities of the late 60's, when food innovations were weird, but still natural. 4617

  • @shelbycriswellart
    @shelbycriswellart 2 роки тому +1

Hey Kent, this was hilarious. I've loved your videos for a long while.
I do think that language changes and that's it's okay that it changes. I think a burger is just a patty of something in between two buns and if you want that patty to be beef, then you can order a beef burger. Milk is just a creamy liquid for cereal, coffee, etc. Don't matter what it's made of! You know what also produces milk that we drink? Goats and sheep. So just by saying milk is from a cow is a little limiting. But also language is complicated and hard!

It's all about who's running the schools, writing the history books, philosophy books and who is behind the pulpits that determines what they are going to sell us. Jesus is coming back for those who obey Him and are waiting for Him. It's not about food, it''s about what's right, peaceful, and joyous being forgiven. Thank you for your thoughts, Mr. and Mrs. Rollins. It's 2019 and if we are still breathing, paying taxes, no one can tell anyone what to eat or drink in the USA.

Kent, I fought this battle years ago. Ya can't win. Yes darn it. A burger comes from cattle as in cow. Milk may come from a cow but I have also milked milked goats and I watched my wife breast feed our children so this isn't as clear cut as burgers. Veggie and tofu might be tasty (not to me) and sure Turkey and chicken and sausage can be ground up. But not all ground stuff makes burgers. I attended university in northern New England years ago. First time I ordered a milkshake I got milk and chocolate syrup shaken. I asked what it was...a milkshake. What is it called with ice cream added? A frappe! Huh?? Today, nothing is simple any more. Folks want choice and today we have so much choice it overwhelms the senses!

hahahaaaa... I went in asking for a burger at a local spot near my job. They asked me if I wanted a Meatless burger. I asked, what the hell is that? He said, it looks, tastes and bleeds like a burger, but it dont got any meat in it...
Guess I tipped my hat too, hahahahaa.. I said GIMME REAL MEAT!! No fake nothing! Waiter told me I should at least try it, its good for my health, etc etc. Well, I tried it. Let me tell you, it messed with my stomach for a few days.. as soon as I recovered, I had me a BIG OLE STEAK! REAL MEAT! hahaaaa

Soy milk has phyto estrogens.....not so good for men.
Whole milk is drastically under estimated.
Oddly enough, when I was a kid I went to south Korea and the ice cream was more than awesome.
I found out why....it was raw milk. No homogenized no pasteurized.
Fat is flavor. To this day I'm not sure ive ever had ice cream at that level.
Even more odd, since the low fat craze has taken effect.....We now have more heart disease and health issues then back when it was natural raw milk.
The trendy stuff can't beat what the good Lord makes.
We think were real smart now a days.....In reality we have become fools.
Your story confirms that.....thank you for sharing.
I can't get enough of you sir.....best cowboy I know.

a british comedian (can't recall who it was) once said about vegetarians and their "burgers":
"If you don't like the taste, you can't have the shape", as in: you don't like meat: don't eat it. If you like vegetables: eat them. But don't try and imitate meat products all the time. Don't make veggie "burgers", don't make tofu "steak" and don't make soy "milk".
