  • I recently purchased the OM-5 for photography & video content creation. I am very disappointed with the video features of this camera and in this video I will explain why I am.

So good to see someone highlighting the weaknesses of a camera!! I found this video very informative!

It's a bit worrisome that all OM Systems has done is re-brand existing Olympus bodies and release them at higher prices, without really bringing any thoughtful quality of life features to these existing bodies. The sensors are good enough for MFT, AF isn't terrible, but they really sh*t the bed when it comes to video.
Agree with your rant. The good news is, it is a good stills camera, and might still appeal to that market at the very least.
Thank goodness there are better bodies at similar price-points by other camera manufacturers. OM System needs to take the competition more seriously. Nostalgia can only get you so far as a company.

You said everything that everyone said months ago. No usb-c, no 10 bit, same oord menu, no custom buttons and a high price.

‘Really really bonkers’…loved that! As you noted, great for photography, but video is limited to more basic needs. Designed more for adventurers or travel not for the studio largely due to limited battery life. Sounds like only short term solution is a battery grip as you noted.

Hi I hear you and agree to an extent although I have many m4/3 and recently got a EM 1 Mk 3, I also got the book by Tony Philips which is really good, however I would suggest two things, one is to reach out to OM via their UA-cam sessions that they do, but also to Rob Trek, who is one of their visionary guys, I’m 73 so I’ve lived a bit, but Rob is a really nice guy and has covered all the Olympus models and very well, a nice guy who will know more about the plans of OM well respected and knows the cameras inside out! It’s would also be a good move as I know you are a knowledgeable photographer across the board! Hope it goes well and as my Dad always used to say, the day you stop learning is the day you die!

OM Systems is just sucking the remaining value out of the old Olympus designs, I doubt that they are capable of doing anything more than just firmware updates. I'm keeping my Olympus cameras, but I won't be investing further into the system.

So sad what happened to Olympus and the decline of their once great products.
But I'm keeping my beloved OMD; can't bear the thought of parting with it.

When it came out, I wanted to be tempted by it. The OM-5 isn't good enough to tempt me from my GX9. The same happened when the E-P7 came along. I am disappointed. Maybe there will be mark II versions this year because of the EU laws on USB-C. Panasonic released a new G100.
