If you read codes and just replace the affected part you aren't diagnosing a problem, you are throwing parts at the problem. Sometimes this works. A professional can throw those parts you request be replaced, but you will be money ahead if you pay for a diagnosis or even have any auto parts store read the codes and save you the purchase price of FIXD. Its a nice theory.

What everyone is also not saying here is, FIXD wants an additional $60 bucks to register their product after purchase. Why no one here has bothered to mention this is beyond me. FIXD also did not diagnose the issue with our, CRV. Our VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) light was on however, FIXD did not register this as an issue. It only sent me off to another section on their site to tell me what the light was.......but if we are buying this product, we know full well what the lights is. We either needed to know why the light was on, or to turn the damn light off. It did neither. So $120+ bucks for nothing.

@ Bill Dux - Thank you for your review. Foolishly, I was actually thinking about buying this because an "expert" mechanic ruined my RAV4 a year and a half ago because after repairing my A/C unit, he forgot to plug in my car's computer that "teaches" it how I drive and how it should shift. My car never worked properly after that, jerked about forever. Took it to a Toyota dealer and they wanted thousands to "try" and fix it, but no guarantees.... I won't be wasting my money on this thing.

As it seems the FIXD is a RIP OFF!!! I ordered the sensor for $19. 99 and my card was charged $99.99 . Now they won't refund the money. So guess what. They found a legal way to steel peoples money !!! I have to get another card just so they can't continue to bill me. Damn what's this world and it dishonest people going to come up with next. The Devil said it's only getting worse. 😕 You know he happened to be telling the truth. Weird Facts are what they are. 😏😐

I just received my device and I wasn't able to register my fixed device for some reason. The only prompting I got in an app was to provide my email and passcode doing registration. Then I was prompt to continue and then it took me directly to the inside the app. I don't know what's going on. All the steps that I saw that you went through was skipped on mines for some odd reason. I see nowhere in my app where it prompt me through all the steps that you showed on this video. This is very frustrating!

I've been a tech for 35 years, I hold a California emissions inspector license. This item is nothing more than the courtesy scan just about any parts house will give you for free in the hopes you will be buying parts hat are usually nonreturnable. /The end result is you will go to a tech with your own diagnosis which will most likely be wrong and you will want the tech to change the parts this system made a guess at. When that does not fix the car you have bought a part or pats that you are stuck with as well as labor you asked for that won't be refunded.
You will still be paying a tech to make a proper diagnosis because IF I'm wrong I have to fix it for free, see if they will give you that same guarantee.

    • @richardnicely5573

As a fellow ASE certified tech, I agree with you to a certain extent, but I also disagree to a certain extent.
1.) Yes, they do exaggerate the abilities of this thing. Even the most seasoned mechanic can't always tell for sure just based on information from an OBD-II scan. For instance, an emissions small leak. 9 times out of 10 it is the gas cap. However, on that 10th time, it may be a leak somewhere else like a vacuum hose on top of the gas tank...which you can't find without some inspection (usually a smoke test)
2.) With that said, I disagree with your assertion that it's "nothing more than the courtesy scan just about any parts house will give you for free". Those courtesy scans won't give you freeze frame data to tell you the state of the various sensors at the time of an error code being thrown. Those courtesy scans can't give you live data directly off the various sensors inside the car. (Back to point 1......most of that information isn't real useful to a person who isn't already a knowledgable tech...but my point is...this tool is actually much more useful than a courtesy code read at a parts store....in the right hands..

With your FIXD Sensor and the free FIXD App, you can translate 7000+ engine codes into plain English on your smartphone, see how serious your issue is, access detailed repair guides and how-to videos, monitor the health of multiple vehicles, and receive automated maintenance alerts.
FIXD Premium is our 100% optional (yet extremely helpful) add-on to the FIXD App. A Premium subscription is NOT required to use the free features of app, scan your vehicle for engine codes, or clear the check engine light.

    What Can Fixd Diagnose?
Fixd is a useful tool, but it can't diagnose everything. The general rule is that if a problem causes your "check engine" light to turn on, then Fixd can tell you why the light turned on and what type of repair you might need.
Diagnosing a car is a whole lot more complicated than just reading trouble codes, and one code can be caused my multiple different problems. So even though Fixd can give you an idea of how to fix your problem, and even help you buy the replacement parts you need, complicated issues may still require the assistance of a professional mechanic.

@@KyleRollinsMammothSolutions If all you are using it for is to pull codes, then that is correct. However, if you know anything at all about diagnosing cars (which is what DYI is all about right?) then you'll need more information than just the code. Freeze frame data can be very useful in diagnosing an issue...and no auto parts store scan will give you that. If it's a current issue instead of just a stored code.....then being able to look at live data can often lead you to the exact right diagnosis.....What reading are you getting from the throttle position sensor, how about the MAP, or MAF sensors? How about the 1st and 2nd O2 sensors on bank 1? Those are all things this can tell you, that will make it much easier to diagnose your problem....and they are also all things you can't get from any auto parts store free scan.

FIXD is only able to read and clear your vehicles' check engine light. The other lights (TPMS, ABS, Airbag, Maintenance lights, Stability Control, etc) and issues are controlled by manufacturer-specific parameter identifiers, which makes it difficult for us to read this information through the OBD-II port.

We are working on licensing this information from the manufacturers and have a few manufacturer codes available, but not for all models that are compatible with FIXD yet.

Most cars are still built in North America for the USDM market, so the whole "I don't own a domestic" is irrelevant. It's not usually the parts themselves that are an issue, but rather the assembly. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru, BMW, Daimler (Mercedes), VW and Volvo are assembled in North America for this market. Parts can be an issue though. I know for a fact that some crucial components for engines, for example, are manufactured in North America as well. Honda's pretty notorious with valve springs being manufactured in the US so poorly that they all have to be sorted by hand to throw away the massive amount of defective springs so they don't get caught on the assembly line and have to stop production. And I own a 2020 Honda - it's built in Alliston, Ontario. Anyone who believes there is a large gap in quality between USDM assembled cars is foolish.

I think Fixd is a good product. It can definitely help the home gamer. I'm a certified and skilled mechanic by hobby, and previously by profession. I have to say though, your ads are garbage. There are mechanics out there that are scumbags, that's for sure. Your ads however propagate the idea that many or most mechanics are like this. A lot of times replacing the sensor or part associated with the OBD code does solve the issue, however people that don't know much about cars will think that this is always the case. What if the code is the only indication of a serious electric or mechanical issue? There are a lot of problems that or more complex than a parts cannon solution, which is not in the skill realm of most of your market. You've been misleading and downplaying the value of a good and honest mechanic. The blue collars of the field do not appreciate the messaging of your ads. Yall know it too, I'm sure.

    • @intraterrestrial69
      @intraterrestrial69 2 місяці тому +1

@@screwyootube1I disagree about having more regulation. Oversight policies WILL lead to even less consumer control over how to repair their vehicles (as it has in other industries) Then, you'll WISH you could get screwed by a mechanic after seeing how bad the manufacturers screw you. Mechanics that take advantage of their customers should be called out, publicly shamed, sued, whatever. However, the person who got screwed is NOT without fault. The customer doesn't need to be a pro to realize they're about to get screwed. Nothing more than basic research (2nd opinion, comparing prices, check the code at autozone or with scanner and see if mechanic's estimate makes sense) and a layman's understanding will give you a level of confidence when walking in to a shop so that YOU WILL NOT EVEN COME OFF AS A TARGETABLE PERSON IN THE FIRST PLACE. A business wouldn't take the risk of being bought screwing somebody, and would only try to do so (if they're like that) to somebody who clearly has no idea what's up with their car cause it can be sensed.
