  • Matt calls Alex in Grand Cayman to hear about how he has been getting on shooting the Canon R5 Mark 2 camera, with a 45MP stacked sensor, intelligent autofocus system, 1/250th flash synch and upgraded EVF. Is this the camera Canon users have been waiting for? Alex shares his findings and some photos from Grand Cayman.

Hey Alex, to get 1/250 sync speed and maintain 14bit dynamic range shoot on semi-electronic shutter. For peak performance highlights in RAWs Activate D-Lighting+ ; here also the middle setting. Have fun and enjoy 🎉

Interesting show. I have both an R5 and R5 II body. I was wondering if you have ever thought of doing a camera settings for underwater show for cameras?
I found your comparative experience between the two versions to be interesting as I am not really finding that much difference in either the dynamic range or the autofocus capabilities for above water photography. The main reason that I replaced one of my R5's with the Mk II was for the stacked sensor (almost eliminates rolling shutter) and the pre-shoot so that I don't have to guess as much as to when that bird is going to fly.

Thanks both. I've nor shot underwater but wished I did, especially in the red sea, but I'm working up to press the Buy button on the move to R5 II.

The review was perfect, but I was completly distracted when it came to the photo of the sponge. I kept wondering how Alex lit that sponge, briljant! Would love to hear more about that.

Hey Alex, knowing that you have also shot the Sony A1, just wondering how the autofocus on the R5ii stacks up against that (given your comparative comments mostly referenced the A7RV).
    Thanks

The A1 is fast but not as smart as the A7RV. So with some subjects it is better, with others it is slower. The Canon R5 Mk2 is fast and very intelligent with UW subjects, but does miss from time to time too.
