It's funny that tariq is making a video on when shows like this have emotional episodes, as tariq himself makes more emotional videos like this one and I really enjoy them. Keep up the great work, man 👍
I have strong feelings about the bank vault episode. I've seen a couple of mental health professionals talk about the fact that this episode is important. Stewie, learning that Brian is experiencing suicidal thoughts, reacts in one of the very best ways. He doesn't tell Brian he's being selfish, he doesn't freak out, he doesn't take it personally, and he doesn't belittle Brian's problems. He instead engages Brian in a conversation that puts the ball in his court and lets him know he's not alone while he talks through the fact that it's not a good option. The question "why do you want to kill yourself", while not phrased in the best way, is a good question to ask someone who divulges that information to you. It's important for people to see that, so they might think to react in the same way. This is just like that kid who saw the Heimlich maneuver on the Simpsons and saved his classmate from choking. It could honestly help save lives. I know that sounds dramatic, but we've got an epidemic of young people dying by suicide. Small things like this can be important.
I like that I can always trust Tariq to find the heart in even the most maligned of series, but not in such a way as it ignores or excuses the failings. I knew Family Guy meant a lot to him, and hearing this, I can definitely feel it.
This stuff is why I fell in love with Animation. It has so much range. It can make me smile or it can bring my world down. I cried when we saw what happened to Seymour in Futurama. I cried when Chucky remembers his Mother, and I cried when Iroh sings about A Little Soldier Boy. I hate when people call Cartoon "Just Fart Jokes" , There is so much more to Animation then the bad.
i really love this video. a few months ago i watched every single episode for nostalgia and i definetly started getting bored during the newer seasons but i still found some really cute moments that no one talks about. i even like how they made stewie much more like a kid and give him little preschool adventures
Bro, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that in the recent episodes. Wasn't there an episode with a friend of Stewie's who had garbage parents and Brian and Stewie had to help him out or something?
Thank you for pointing out how stupid it is that Quagmire hates Brian. I know the writers want to aim all the fan hatred toward the family dog, but Brian's jackass personality does that by itself.
Exactly. The audience can easily see that Brian is a smug, liberal douchebag with a drinking problem and a real track record with women, so having Glen as an outlet for disliking him has always struck me as weird.
@@matti.8465 His argument is that Brian is an objectively shitty person, which comes off as cheap dogshit when Quagmire is an unconvicted rapist & sex offender.
Its kinda funny that a lot of these episodes are in my top 10. And they are really the only things I remember about family guy. The bad jokes and terrible cruel humor never really stuck with me. But man, these episodes. Thanks for reminding me why I loved this show so much, Tariq. And great video as always man.

I was expecting to roll my eyes at this video because I assumed it would be apologetic for how Family Guy degraded over the seasons and try to show that it got better. and like the episode Forget Me Not where Stewie congratulated Brian for proving him wrong, I want to say the same to you and DanTheManShow. This video doesn't apologize for the weakest moments of Family as it went on, instead it showed the few grains of good moments it had and honestly I hope we get to a point where looking back you could take these moments and put them together in a compilation to act as a final season(s) for the show, cut out the fat, the mean spirited episodes, and keep what shined. While I no longer wish to watch this show, it wouldn't be fair to disregard what good did come from the future seasons and while I feel that the bag at this point outweighs the good, i'm very open to the idea that all the bad episodes are non-existent. thanks for making this video TT
My partner and I are rewatching Family Guy and have been for a few months now, from episode one all the way up to season 12. We’re not too sure when we want to cut off the watch though, this video helped a lot.
UA-cam has gotten SO fucking boring, they don't reccomend content that i like anymore, but back in 2020 i found you, you were by far the most relatable UA-camr ive found, but now ive found you again, your takes are as solid as ever and is a nice breath of fresh air.
I'm reminded of Abed's speech in Community: "There is skill to it. More importantly, it has to be joyful, effortless, fun. TV defeats its own purpose when it's pushing an agenda, or trying to defeat other TV or being proud or ashamed of itself for existing. It's TV, it's comfort. It's a friend you've known so well, and for so long you just let it be with you. And it needs to be okay for it to have a bad day, or phone in a day. And it needs to be okay for it to get on a boat with Levar Burton and never come back. Because eventually, it all will."
This video really shows the potential Family Guy has to be an incredible show. I'm still of the belief that most of it is horrible (or at most, not good). But this video really shows at FG at its best truly is its own voice in the adult animation landscape and not the cheap Simpsons knockoff it often appears to be.
I'm not ashamed that basically all of these episodes moved me to tears. Maybe I'm just a big overemotional baby, but you know, maybe that shows the impact these shows can really make. These all hold a special place in my heart
Me being suspicious the whole time seeing white hands during the manscaped ad 🤨 Either way, I never even thought I’d need a video on something like this but I definitely did and I’m so glad you made it. I don’t know anyone that covers and reminisces on shows from my childhood as well as you and having a black person that I can (for obvious reasons) just relate to more is literally a big bonus. You’re awesome Tariq and I hope you and your videos only ever change for the better and get way more attention and exposure, because you deserve it! 💕
Just seeing the amount of shading in the Wild West episode really shows how much the team behind Family Guys really does care so much for the show. The team could have just left shots in this episode just only with flat colors, but they shaded multiple times in the show when it was the sunset or sitting next to the campfire. I remember when Tariq brought up the art book in his review of “Brain Wallows and Peter Swallows” just how much goes into the art
@@keondramcintyre3444 Oh, after typing all of what I said below, l realized I just phrased the the original comment kinda weird, shoulda originally said something like, "the deep intergenerational relationship Brian shares with both a father and his son." But I had so much fun gathering my thought that I'll leave what I wrote. Krillin from Dragon Ball Z's got the same thing going on! The cool thing about Krillin's friendship with Goku, and later Gohan, is the fact that both have this implied power dynamic from the outside, but have really strong bonds that make them more akin to peers that see each other as equals in all situations it is appropriate. For Goku's case, he both surpasses Krillin in their crafts (martial arts under the same school no less) and has avenged him / been responsible for him continuing to live. Despite Krillin being indebted to him as his savior and knowing that Goku is more like a revered master in their their craft, they retain the relationship and dynamic of two guys that came up together, two equals. And in Family Guy, even though Brian is indebted to Peter, and society literally sees them as 'a man and his dog', their interests, history and chemistry show that they see each other as peers. With Gohan, Krillin starts out as an uncle figure, 'my dad's best friend.' But because of Goku's death and an immediate need to act against the Saiyans (and later Frieza, and next Cell), Gohan is forced to grow up quickly. On one hand, Krillin looks out for Gohan as best he can, having life experience that gives him an edge over Gohan's raw potential until Gohan can find his footing in the forced-upon life of a Z Fighter; on the other hand, Krillin is also going through this from a position of being out of his depth, and is the closest to Gohan out of the other adults in his life in terms of his temperament, so they quickly become closer peers! Pretty similar to Stewie, who's a genius in many regards, but still just an infant in others. Brian takes him on both levels, and it evens out to them being peers as well.
My favorite tender moment is that bank vault moment with Brian and Stewie. It's very relatable we all at some point quiestion our purpose in life, sometimes quiestion would things be any different if I was gone. Seeing Stewie pour out his heart to Brian on what he means to him hits hard, because there's someone in our life whether they say it or not views us in the same lense. And to hear a real depiction of love, not just romantic not the Hollywood glitz version or the lets fuck kinda love. To hear real heartfelt connection and care for someone else.
The Carrie fisher memorium scene legit almost made me cry. Than it was revealed that Peter was in the wrong funeral and I didn’t almost cry to a family guy episode
Honestly if they did Life of Brian as something similar to New Kidney in Town (or even did New Kidney as the death of Brian) it would’ve been a lot more emotional and perhaps a top 25 episode of the series overall. Of course it wouldn’t have worked with the plan to bring him back, if they did have to kill Brian it would’ve been a better ending than just *bam* car
This was great. You really have a talent for finding emotional significance where others can't; and moreover, articulating your thoughts on it. This is another classic entry. Also, coming out the gate with Outkast didn't hurt either.
This man doesn't watch movies, confirmed. Didn't know Carrie Fisher voiced Angela though. Who'd have guessed family guy would respect her passing more than Disney star wars.
Growing up in the mid to late 2000s and entire 2010s I watched a LOT of tv. Family guy was one of those shows I watched religiously as a kid. I would watch reruns on adult swim every night. It was my routine. Wait for my mom to go to bed before watching king of the hill to family guy. The early seasons of family guy will always be a giant part of my childhood. To me I’ll always remember family guy as the show it was for the first 6-8 seasons. The show that could be gross and offensive and crude but also had its moments where it made you cry or smile, get that warm feeling you usually get from stuff like Charlie Brown. I don’t like all the jokes the make and all the topics the cover but family guy deserves recognition for what it’s done for adult animation
only tariq can make a video about family guy feel like a hug. damn I'm nostalgic and I didn't even watch family guy as a kid! now if you made a video about american dad's sweetest episodes i don't think I would recover.
man this is one of ur best vids yet!!!! i love when u dive into niche(?? idfk how niche videos genuinely praising family guy's good bits are) topics like this one :D keep up the good work
I love when essayists/reviewers are so proud/big fans of a topic, but don't ignore opposing feelings for that topic. Some people, who I shouldn't name for gossiping sake, love to demonize/invalidate different views over a topic. But you Tariq, did the wiser choice that not alot of UA-cam personalities do, try to understand where others come from while still talking about what you love about a topic. Such a "Unity is what we need" type beat indeed
This made me think quite a bit about the seasons of the show I had mostly neglected. Really great work on this one! Loved this show then and I think it still has its moments now.
Family guy is my comfort show not only because I started watching it at a young age so it’s like I grew up with it but also because it’s so lighthearted. Like after a taxing day of work, I need to not think and unplug, family guy does that. I even have it as background sound when I’m working since I work from home
Never been into Family Guy for a multitude of reasons, but I don't and can't ever outright HATE it. I agree that it has its legit heartfelt moments - even if they're ruined immediately like the joke after Peter's eulogy for Angela. There was still value to that scene. I watched the end bit of Brian & Stewie a few weeks ago, and it genuinely got me
never lost faith, heck it has my favorite modern Christmas episode ever. I do love even though it not talk about how much there are just lois and peter episode and my favorite heart episode is the when lois becomes a flight attendant. it weird that not alot of credit is given when the two are together and play off one another
I wish adult animation felt more comfortable with letting those sweet, quiet moments sit. I think a lot of shows have great moments like the ones you showed, but a lot of times, they're rushing to move on to the next joke. It's ok to take a minute to just show kindness!
You aren't wrong. I haven't watched much adult animation, but my brother convinced me to watch and binged Archer with me when 10 was final season. I didn't always make me laugh, but I did get attached to those moments of emotion, and I remember crying at 10's finale when I was reminded of just how much of a journey I'd been witness to. It's wasn't always great, and sometimes bad and uncomfortable, but there are moments that somehow make it worthwhile.

@@chrisrockett5897 yeah they focused on that new rival kid way too much 😭 i think there were like 3 eps about him
That Party All the Time mix is so good, I’ve watched this video 3 times to hear it 😭 love the music on this channel
Isn't Quagmire's argument that "I'm awful too but at least I don't pretend otherwise"?
Quagmire is worse than Brian let's be real.
@@matti.8465 His argument is that Brian is an objectively shitty person, which comes off as cheap dogshit when Quagmire is an unconvicted rapist & sex offender.
@@andrewjbrave1370 He's not
Maybe next time 😔
hi mark
That's any cartoon in my opinion. Any show can have sweet moments
Its kinda funny that a lot of these episodes are in my top 10. And they are really the only things I remember about family guy. The bad jokes and terrible cruel humor never really stuck with me. But man, these episodes. Thanks for reminding me why I loved this show so much, Tariq. And great video as always man.
Aw damn missed the premiere but I cannot express how pumped I am! And how double pumped I was to hear that this is gonna be looking at past season 3 Family Guy! You know I got the Family Guy Art Book last Christmas because you talked about it!
I know at this point Tariq's theme song isn't new anymore but it really helps tie all these videos together. Also helps that its a really good song...*Unnitttyy*
I always love how they treat the passing of their friends and staff, it always chokes me up how sweet they are.
My partner and I are rewatching Family Guy and have been for a few months now, from episode one all the way up to season 12. We’re not too sure when we want to cut off the watch though, this video helped a lot.
FD and Tariq dropping a vid on the same day? Hell yeah
right?? it was a good day
UA-cam has gotten SO fucking boring, they don't reccomend content that i like anymore, but back in 2020 i found you, you were by far the most relatable UA-camr ive found, but now ive found you again, your takes are as solid as ever and is a nice breath of fresh air.
I'm reminded of Abed's speech in Community:
"There is skill to it.
I agree. While Family Guy isn’t my cup of tea, I do see that it has some actual, honest-to-gosh effort put into it.
Don't normally leave comments on your videos but this was really well made and I think your videos are great. Keep on keepin on Tariq
The last line before the end music video was the best possible way to close this out. (also before the hatsoffmedia/lsmark bit I guess but y'know)
Was never a Family Guy fan, but hearing you talk about how much it means to you and what it does well is beautiful man.
man i really love how set the vibe with your music choices.
THANK YOU
I love all these episodes so much they’re so unappreciated, Family Guy in general is and im thankful you made this video
Bro you showed up on my suggested stuff. Amazing video. Absolutely love it and plan on binge watching a lot of your videos later.
Holy crap! It's freakin' Toonrific Tariq!
I'm not ashamed that basically all of these episodes moved me to tears. Maybe I'm just a big overemotional baby, but you know, maybe that shows the impact these shows can really make. These all hold a special place in my heart
That quick moment at 3:22 instantly unlocked a memory in me and I had to look it up. That's so crazy that you remember Maggie and The Ferocious Beast
'Nobody's gonna watch this'
You underestimate my power, Tariq.
I love it whenever you talk about this show, man. 👏 You find the best and most salvageable pieces of this turd sandwich.
Me being suspicious the whole time seeing white hands during the manscaped ad 🤨
Either way, I never even thought I’d need a video on something like this but I definitely did and I’m so glad you made it. 💕
Remember the time where the kool-aid man busted through that wall and he was like “oh no!!!!”
The segments with your drawing are genuinely so nice to look at
I can't believe Brian is the Krillin of Family Guy, down to the deep intergenerational friendship between father and son
I don't get it.
Man, I miss what this used to be.
Too bad I can't go back. Nothing the show does phases me anymore.
You know it's Toonrific when the Outkast starts you off.
The Carrie fisher memorium scene legit almost made me cry. Than it was revealed that Peter was in the wrong funeral and I didn’t almost cry to a family guy episode
I feel like family guy now and days is best enjoyed in out of context clips.
genuinely one of my favorite video essay channels
29:04 Adam's footage here comes from a promo ad from 2014, for the mobile game Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff.
The bank episode left such an impact on me and my bff LITERALLY (seriously, not exaggerating) screamed about it for a solid year and a half
I cried when Peter finishes his eulogy only for it to be followed up with a joke...
You got me goddamn excited for tonight
I'm not at all into this series, but you have a perspective on things that I value so I'm glad I gave it a go.
Man this video made me feel less bad about unironically liking Family Guy, and also made me cry over Adam West and Carrie Fisher again, good job.
There’s something strange about Family Guy’s kidney transplant episode being more heartfelt than The Simpson’s one.
only tariq can make a video about family guy feel like a hug. damn I'm nostalgic and I didn't even watch family guy as a kid! now if you made a video about american dad's sweetest episodes i don't think I would recover.
man this is one of ur best vids yet!!!! i love when u dive into niche(?? idfk how niche videos genuinely praising family guy's good bits are) topics like this one :D keep up the good work
Forget Me Not is such a good episode and I don't think it gets nearly as much credit as it deserves.
yeah this show when it's good it's great, and nice to see a channel that isn't afraid to be positive.
Amazing video; family guy def releases a few gems a season.
Lmao the way family guy got off with putting full on music videos and on model moments is crazy.
Nice to see you dropping more content lately🥰 Dope video got me contemplating watching Family Guy again.
You're about to make me come back to this show god damn Tariq this was awesome
This made me think quite a bit about the seasons of the show I had mostly neglected. Really great work on this one! Loved this show then and I think it still has its moments now.
To me Simpsons Seasons 1-8 + the Movie, and Family Guy Seasons 1-5 + the Star Wars Specials will always be great
Whatever man, I will always watch a new upload from you
Family guy is my comfort show not only because I started watching it at a young age so it’s like I grew up with it but also because it’s so lighthearted. Like after a taxing day of work, I need to not think and unplug, family guy does that. I even have it as background sound when I’m working since I work from home
Every single Brian and Stewie episode is great for emotional family guy tbh
Never been into Family Guy for a multitude of reasons, but I don't and can't ever outright HATE it. I agree that it has its legit heartfelt moments - even if they're ruined immediately like the joke after Peter's eulogy for Angela. There was still value to that scene. I watched the end bit of Brian & Stewie a few weeks ago, and it genuinely got me
I feel like I've waiting for this video for years and it hits so good. Worth every second.
Dude. You're so spot on with your analysis and opinion. It's genuinely nice to know others can see the beauty in the newer episodes. U cool.
never lost faith, heck it has my favorite modern Christmas episode ever.
The minute Roses came on I knew this shit was about to bang. Good stuff as always, Tariq.
man i dont even fuck with family guy and yet you made me go "n'awwww thats really sweet..." at several moments you showed, damn stop it its illegal
