Baseball runs through my veins. It’s my first true love, and a bond with my father. I had such a great childhood growing up with baseball and my father. I was/am blessed.

Excellent video!! Thank you very much. My son is a lefty and this clears up a lot to work on pick off moves and keep from doing a balk

Good Job.... Important to mention that your weight should be almost all on the back foot so when the front foot is lifted, there is no swaying.

3:40 section works so great, i tried it because ive never tried it before i saw this and i picked off 3 people in two games with 3 innings pitched each so i think it works well

Umpiers say if the foot or knee fully crosses over the pitchers plate or balance leg the pitcher MUST go home ( to the plate ). Many Lefty pitchers learn to get their right leg on line with the left leg, just remember it will be a longer move home and could cost the pitcher time on a steal.

I was taught that the ""rule" said a pitcher can never fake to 1st, regardless of whether you are a righty or lefty. You can fake to 2nd or 3rd (with man on ) but you can't fake to 1st.

Make it even more effective by having your glove move towards home plate as it does during a pitch to the plate.

    Thanks for the reply.
In that light, with runners on 1st and 3rd or even just a runner on 1st, would not the act of stepping off the rubber and raising the ball as if to throw over to 1st be considered a " fake " move and therefore a balk?
I was taught that a pitcher could not deceive the runners in such a way and this case " what's good for the goose is good for the gander " in my opinion. It's discrimination I tell ya!!!. LOL.
Once again, thanks for the reply. Have a great weekend.

Your move looks very easy to pick up by the runner because you give it away with you glove hand - it might work with young players but definitely not at the collegiate level. Have you ever read the book The Move? The absolute best book that teaches the best move in the game.

best advice for making ur move the best is when u lift ur leg, make the initial move down to home and bend to 45 back to go to first while making ur throw to first. it works. also the head is a VERY big indicator of where ur going. look at him in his eyes. then go home while ur winding up, and at the last moment look at ur foot while u plant to throw to first. win and u make them look stupid

Lefties need to decide what works best for them. If you leave your leg hanging to see if they are going, you'll be slow to the plate which runners can also steal on. A mixture of slide steps and regular moves is tough to run against. Either way you don't want to be predictable. If you hang your leg to see what they are doing you'll also be slow to 1st if they go first move, they may still get 2nd. Basically keep "energy" in your move home or to first, you'll cover both ends and prevent steals.

Hi, I play high school baseball. I know that many players are taught to steal on the "first move" of a lefty. This means that as soon as the left handed pitcher lifts his leg, they should take off (provided they were planning to steal on that pitch). So, as a left handed pitcher, should I be able to both throw over to first AND throw to home when I lift my leg, not knowing which way I will go with the ball when I lift it?

Question. Runners on 1st & 3rd. Why is it legal for a righty to fake to 3rd go to first but a lefty cannot fake to 1st and go to 3rd? Both moves are deceptive but why is one legal and the other a balk?

He's rift handed. They reversed the video in editing, as seen by the backward swoosh on the glove.

ua-cam.com/video/2BCKhQmOCrs/v-deo.html is this a balk? Pitcher's left leg breaks contact moving towards the plate then he throws the ball towards first
