High percentage was just how i was thinking of this drill, stuff that just works. My weekly sparring meetup got rain checked today, so a new drill is timely!
I'm interested in the footwork for Kali. All martial arts I've trained encourage you to maintain a strong base with your footwork and not bring your feet together. I notice Kali brings feet together a lot. Please explain the rationale for this. My stick work is basic, but I tend to maintain a traditional martial arts fighting stance, together with footwork I'm familiar with but appreciate this isn't true to the style. Thanks. 👍
No problem. When you walk or run your feet pass each other closely so you can take a full stride or quickly change directions. When we walk, run and maneuver naturally we don’t hold a base or stance. Kali is a system to engage multiple opponents quickly and offensively therefore you need to move and change direction rapidly. People always say we will just fall over. When you walk through a crowd of people, how often are you falling over or unable to maintain balance with your feet at natural walking width apart? Running is the most athletic footwork we can do as humans. Pay attention to what your feet are doing when you walk and run. I doubt they are wide apart. I’ve made videos on this in the past here on the channel. The best thing is to experience the footwork applied in person. It’s much faster than most people imagine. Especially when the weapon comes in just in front of it. Hope this helps a little. 👍🏼⚔️🙏🏼
