Had one when I was kid, back in the late eighties, great catapult at the time, everyone wanted one. The original bands that came with them were very tough and lasted forever if you looked after it and didn't let them dry out and crack. My friend was deadly accurate with one, he could hit and break things a hundred feet away that were just a couple of cm's in width (branches and the like) with consistency, you'd always find him on the field behind his house practising. We'd tear apart anything we could find on the local tip and scrapyard to get the ballbearings out of them, sometimes go down to the beach and spend a few hours collecting the smoothest most perfect sized pebbles we could find, also using some nice flat ones to skip them across the water in a way throwing them could never match. We also had a lot of fun and learnt a lot building our own catapults, so much pocket money spent on insulation tape and rubber bands from the local hardware and hobby store. Good days.
I've just put flat bands on mine! So accurate!! I didn't do it the way you showed in your other video,I couldn't bring myself to take a saw to it 😂 I've wrapped them round the nipples on the end of forks and I put a bit of tube band on to give it better grip shooting through the inside. Amazing accuracy👌
Got mine when I was 10....I'm now 46. Many a giggle with it...many a target...and moving targets too. The original thicker bands will last a long time. Some serious power in a pocket 👍🏼😉😎
Great for plinking just bought 2 this morning can't wait to use them as the last time i had one was 1982. So looking forward to bringing back some boyish memories.
36, found the one that came with my 760 pump master Crossman in 95 or so. New stretch tubes and its just as good as ever...which wasn't great but hey I still have it.
A friend I hunted with years ago saw I had a wrist rocket, him surviving as a kid in Jalisco Mexico hunting rabbits with a slingshot, asking to see me shoot. An empty shotgun shell nailed first shot at 20 yards. "You are a hunter!" Found that slingshot today and ordered a few new bands, the heavy tubes that last a year or so. Already have heavy ball bearings. Jeez, does this combo pack a wallop!
Like your ferret Chris got half a dozen myself. Yes the black widow is ok I’ve still got mine bought it in 1979. It could tell a few stories however it’s now become more of a safe keep sentimental more than anything else my grandson uses it now and then, he’s a keen shot and he’s only 13, well I’m old school I like making my own forks and they work for me , thanks for sharing 👍
I can answer the question as to why the stock tubes are so heavy, aka "shooting cannon balls", durability. Stretching smaller tube over the same size wrist rocket wire will absolutely increase the stress at that point and make it fail faster. I completely agree that the stock tubes are way too heavy for typical ammo. Secondarily, there is no mention of shortening the tubes to the shooters draw length in any wrist rocket instructions. So the quality of the experience entirely depends on the shooters draw length matching the factory length and that is pure luck. Tubes appropriately sized to the wire they stretch over and shortened to the shooters draw are extremely effective and durable. Tubes lack the customization that is possible with flat bands. You can play with length, thickness and taper forever. So you can never fine tune tubes as well as flat bands. All that said, I still feel tubes properly setup are more durable. If survival was the goal and functional bands means my next meal, tubes would be my first choice.
Lothburke You weren't poor, you had bed springs which implies a bed and sleep. We weren't allowed to sleep in case we rolled out of the pot hole in the road we lived in and got run over. 😋
Hey , i know this is old. But the tube band ripped so quick because it usualy comes with a protective yoke tip. Rubber tube doesnt go directly on metal.
Mine goes directly on metal and it's lasted over a year. Thing is he's using light tubing making it essentially a toy. Upgrade the tubing and it'd be a legitimate weapon.
The tip of metal where the tube slots over need to be sanded down dead smooth. That's what the purpose of the plastic sleeves. If one choose not to use the sleeves he needs to sand the tip so it's rounded off at the end and super smooth. The tube is getting cut cos he just shoved tube straight on.
Good shooting 👍 Gary Moxon who runs the Chatsworth comps pics up anything like the Barnett black Widow or Diablo and smashes consistent 70’s on a small bull lol.... I have no idea how he does, he shoots the original thick tubes and 9.5 steels 😂 I can’t shoot one to save me life 😂
John the first slingshot I learned on was a barnett black widow, took the wrist brace off though. was drilling targets with that and it's original tubes, I actually had to learn how to shoot as good with a modern frame as I could with the black widow cos I got so used to it 😂
Those tubes are so much thinner than the originals. Mine were more than twice that thickness 35 years ago. I used to use marlies as ammo. Cheaper than the BB's 😆

Where you firing just .38 ball bearings out of it?? Just wondering why the bands snapped so quick.. I made that mistake years ago., started off firing the normal steel .38s but then started firing lead fishing weights out of it lol and was too heavy for the bands..it stretched the bands and broke them. I’ve just recently hoked out my old Diablo and put new bands on it. Might stick a wee video up of that 🎯 see how I go.
Hello mate, I’ve just bought a new black widow for rat control in my allotment, I’ve had many over the decades but now I just can’t seem to shoot it anywhere near the target, I set up some targets and it was like 2 foot off!! Why do you think that is? Can I ask you where abouts on the BW do you sight? Is it where the band attaches to the frame? Or just guess somewhere in the Y bit? Any tips would be great, even with that vintage one (I had that in the 80’s!!) you was getting them cans, just wondering what I’m doing wrong. Also where do you buy a different type one like the one you showed with flat bands? Thanks mate, great video 👍🏻

Ive just bought one of these. The elastic on it is 4mm internal diameter and 8mm outer diameter. What lighter elastic is the best size? Does the internal size still need to be 4mm? Thanks
You can repair it with rubbing alcohol.first you cut the bands where you tied it then pour some rubbing alcohol in the tubes and its Just going to slide on and dry

The reason that the tube tore was because you didn't have the plastic fork end protectors in the fork ends. Barnett doesn't properly finish the ends of the forks, and provides both on the slingshot and in their band set, the plastic fork tips....And there is nothing wrong with the Barnett tube slingers, or the Marksman or even the Daisy. They just shoot differently than flatbands. They've popped a lot of rabbits, squirrel and birds before you knew the word slingshot. It's like being skilled with a percussion rifle as opposed to an M-16.

You need a sledgehammer to mould the pouch around such small ammo every time you load it 😉 You almost always drop the shot out of the pouch. Then, it all feels so stiff and unyielding in use.
