    My favorite part of this video is when you turn off/back on the water and the light, then you smile and just enjoy and admire your handiwork! I love that part! Great job on the build!! You SHOULD be proud! (And so should your Mother!)

    What you said at 5:30; To point the holes upward. I actually learned that by looking at the back of a zamboni one day at a hockey game. I had noticed they were pointing up and wondered why for a moment until it dawned on me. I found it simple and clever

    April, (and others doing a fountain build) a way to make pump adjustment much easier will require only two more plumbing fittings, a tee and a valve. You’ll be creating a “bleeder valve” to adjust flow rate going to the distribution tube. Please note, the following will all be under water in the sump. On the outlet (pressure) side of the pump, plumb in a tee. On one branch of this tee plumb in the valve, the other branch of the tee runs to the distribution pipe. By adjusting this (underwater) valve open or closed it “bleeds” the water flow reaching the distributor tube, thus also adjusting the pressure at the distributer. You’ll want a deliberately oversized pump and then you can drill as many holes as you want in the distributer tube, adjusting this bleeder valve to get your optimum flow. Nice build by the way!

    Great video! We’re considering doing one of these in a room divider in our home and yours is the best tutorial type video we’ve found on the subject. Thanks for that!
    One thing to note is that a problem we’ve found with the glass-etching cream is that it really isn’t strong enough to effectively etch anything that’s been tempered. Even leaving it on overnight doesn’t leave much of an impression, so if somebody is super dedicated to the sandblasted logo element, it might be worth finding someone to do it or exploring other, stronger options. Obviously not everyone is going to need to use tempered glass, especially in this situation, but if you’re using a recycled tabletop or you’re putting it somewhere where kids, dogs, or wayward items can go through it, tempered is the safest option, and etching cream may not do what they’re looking for.

    Your waterfall video is very interesting and well done. I looked at the detailed instructions and decided to build one. I will be using it on our deck sheltered by a large roof overhang. I plan to use composite material for durability. I will modify wiring to exterior codes. My wife will create the design. Thanks. Your short appreciation video shows your fine character.

    THANK YOU, APRIL!! I was going to buy a fountain for my entry foyer but could not find one with the design I wanted. I decided I would have to make it myself but had little knowledge about doing it. I started looking at videos for some instruction - all done by men - they were cool but either I didn't feel confident because there were aspects they did not go into or it seemed they over complicated it which made me feel like there was something I wasn't getting. THEN I FOUND YOU! I said, "Great! A woman! I bet I'll get it now! She'll break it down for me where it will all come together. And sure enough, you did not disappoint. I know I can do this now thanks to YOU!

    Hey April...This was a really awesome project! At my sign company we use glass etch vinyl which looks like real etching. We cut it with a plotter but it could be hand cut with a hobby knife or scissors. I'll have to try it to see how it holds up continuously under water but it could be a cheap option.

I just took out a door on a job that has a Jalousie window in the center of it and I want to make a lighted Japanese floor lamp with the glass from the door. Hi April, Excellent presentation of a project of which would be very expensive to buy. I ran across this You Tube presentations and it caught my interest. I have two separated panes of tempered glass from a 3 foot by 6 ft patio door. Your water fall project has given me some ideas on building one out of the glass rather than smashing it. I do sandblasting and art work so this will be an upcoming project that I will do soon. Thank you for sharing the insight in this excellent project. I might add that I see some outstanding talents of which you have displayed in your presented projects. I think you can hold your own in the mostly male dominated woodworking field. You should be proud of your ability as I can see that they can become truly amazing in the years to come.

    April I'm so beyond impressed with your handygirl skills! Your video has MUCH more detail on the how to than all the others on here. Would you mind answering a question if you have a minute?.. It sounds as if when the flex tubing was used over the 90 it was bad for some reason because it pooled up on top of the pump, however I'm totally clueless as to why this would be bad?? Again very impressive videos! You put some of us guys to shame! haha : )

    • @AprilWilkerson
      @AprilWilkerson  9 років тому

      Well thanks. : ) The reason it was bad was because the water would run back on the flex tube and all the way back down to the base of the sides. So it was running along the 2x4 that was holding the piece of glass and then pooling on the surface of the base. Even though I put two coats of protection on the wood, it was sloppy and since there was a fix, I decided to use it. ; )

    Great project April. Very neatly presented too. Compliments to the video operator too. One suggestion for lighting the glass, if you could place an LED strip lighting on the top or even along any one side directly in contact with the edge of the glass pane; it will enhance the lighting effect & as a bonus, the top & sides covers would then be very slim. Great waterfall! Adding the odd plastic plant could possibly add to the beauty. Additionally those color changing christmas LED lights would also add some more variety. Best Xmas wishes.

    i want to make this glass waterfall but in smallest size like a tabletop fountain, i already made a prototype but i failed to produce like that water flowing down smoothly. The water won't bond. I tried to put cloth lining on spout holes on pipe where the water comes out, it kinda works and the water are bonded but the flow of waterfall is forming a triangular shape. any other recommendations? or maybe i need an additional height to make it work.
