oh my god, the first tune, seriously..... i get the shivers from beginning to the end! :D its so happy and beautiful, and all three of them put so much love and feeling in what they play!!^^
To therealfabuliz - You got it right about Jens Kruger's virtuosity on the banjo - the music comes from his heart. The Kruger Brothers will be back in San Diego environs next weekend!! - May 8/9 '09. Lucky for those folks out there!! To sleaponit21 - Hartford was terrific, no question! But you're comparing apples and oranges! :)
don't hate, be proud, this is amasing, share the love, I want this, no drones, no bombs, this is what america is about, straigth to the heart! sorry for bad english. LOVE from Europe!!!
way to go Kruger Bros their music is really goodand the Banjo guitars that's my favourite music instrument if I immigrate to the US I listen the music of these brothers I;ll immigrate to get the better life in the united states of America
I saw the Kruger Brothers live at Wintergrass a couple weeks ago, followed by Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn. Then, each group performed with a local 50 piece string orchestra for a while. 3+ hours of pure bliss!
Jens plays and his soul pours out along with the amazing technical performance. Bela is like math or something. He is playing the notes impressively but there is no love, no heart, no soul... they could play the same piece and it is a totally different experience.
New original KB tunes, none of which has been recorded for the public yet (on CD, that is) , and we get to see a professional video!! Just fabulous!! These guys are just astounding, and I love them!
Saw the Kruger bros last week in the north of England, they did a workshop and concert;I've never heard such virtuoso banjo, and played with such variety from Bach, Mozart to Bluegrass etc, and all charming approachable musicians,.....they were incredible.
Jens is truly one of the GREAT masters of the instrument . The Kruger Brothers are such a joy and amazing players as one unit. One sound which compliments the individual players beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing! Banjoistically yours, Jon Eric
One of my all time favourite yotube videos is Jens sitting with Tut Taylor and playing Georgia on a parlour guitar the Tut made. The uploader made it private years ago and I still yearn to see it again. It was a beautiful thing to behold
I discovered this group on PBS a week or so ago, and was immediately impressed and a fan! I love bluegrass (especially instrumental), and these guys are fascinating!
They both are amazing, and some people do play from the heart and soul more than others, but Bela's a genius, he's taken the banjo farther in the music industry than anybody else probably because he loves the instrument
Thanks Ben it worked. Now I just have to practice it. What a beautiful tune and played so well by Swiss brothers Kruger. I am very grateful for the tab. Peter
Thanks! I am lucky enough to get to see them play later this month and will be sure to purchase Between the Notes when I do. II'm also pretty excited that I was able to find the banjo tab for this.
Yup, and i think he's awesome with a bottleneck also. There' a vid or 2 kicking around youtube with Jens playing some of Tut Taylor's custom strings. It's fantastic.
i hear them, and i just dont think they can beat the talents we have here in Kentucky. We have such quick handed talent, not sure if those above can compare. Thanks for posting though. It sounds beautiful! :)
Wow, you are fortunate. Unfortunately I live overseas in a somewhat insular (towards western music) society so I have to roll my own via iTunes & Amazon or travel for most performance opportunities. Definitel going to check their calendar when I next get back home for a few months.
Great Great stuff. I loved the second tune. You know what? I love Bela Fleck too. It's silly to try put a "better" or "best" label on either of them. They're both amazing.
I've played 5-string banjo for 38 years now, and I know if I played for another 38 years I would never attain half the talent of Jens Kruger. Oh well...
There's not much use in arguing who's the best,it's all personal taste.I like 'em all. Joel is one of the best bass players in the business too, you'd have to be to keep up with those two fellas.
The opening track is just beautiful, Jens is a real ambassador for fellow banjo pickers, brilliant, personally I think bela and jens have their own styles and it's really nick picking on two great players in their own right. early Eric weissberg takes some beating though!
Well, I dont know about him that much. Thanks for reminding me about Mr Hartford. I came across some really great stuff. Whats the name of that beautiful touching song.. Lorena?
On banjo hangout. Can't post links on UA-cam so you will have to translate this (put a . where you see dot and remove spaces from around the /. Here it is: banjohangout (dot) org / tab / browse.asp?m=detail&v=16908 Click on Download PDF or you can select TABLEDIT if you have the right software for that.
Loved Bela with New Grass, but the air is thin up where Bela and Jens are at. I don't think the abilities of the two can be compared because they are so different. Both are cutting edge and eclectic. That said, I believe one can have preferences between the two and while I have complete respect for champions of Bela, I just simply prefer Jens stylings. Has more to do with who I am than who is better. And while Jens is a musical genius, the music is a collaboration of genius between Jens, Uwe, and their talented beloved sidekick, Joel. Lastly, guitar has many Jen's and Bela's. The Banjo needs these two guys.
Bela is a genius and undoubtedly one of the most innovative musicians of our time, on any instrument. But while intellectually challenging, Bela's music and playing does not engage me on an emotional level. Jens does both. Hearing Jens and the Kruger Brothers play is a tremendously spiritual experience.
@dimpills - trust me, they'd stand up fine. They do bluegrass standards, too, they've just gotten away from it some to more melodic stuff. I haven't heard anyone who can play faster *or* cleaner than jens. As rude as it is to say, the rest of the band is just sort of there so someone else is playing along with jens. They do a good job in support, though.
sleaponit21 , ..Jens Kruger is what they call a true virtuoso.. Not your run of the mill banjo player by no means. His music is from the heart..Study it and you will see..(00)...:p)
Oh, man! - c'mon: Jens Kruger is lightyears beyond Bela Fleck! (Don't get me wrong: BF is a wonderful banjo artist.., but there's no one on Planet Earth today that can play (compose, arrange) like Jens Kruger!! (IMHO, of course :) )
@therealfabuliz - SO NOT TRUE! Jens is an amazing player...one of the very best of all time but you are wrong about Bela, he plays with all his heart and soul... and lots of love. You would have to be deaf and blind to miss that one!! ...Yeah, sometimes bela gets bored with a piece or two...but anyone would if they had to play the same songs every day for 30+ years.... Bela is all soul man. I look forward to seeing both again at Merlefest is 2012!!
really ? kruger, fleck, hartford was the best banjo player entertainer america ever had , who gives a crap how fast some guy can nock the shit out of a banjo, sing a love song, playing the banjo, and the world will listen
Technical ability is one thing, song writing is another. I value song writing more myself but the four best technically able players are Jens Kruger, Alison Brown, Bela Fleck and Noam Pinckleny
I think all that emotion and feeling crap has nothing to do with who's better. It's strictly a question of can one guy do something the other one can't. Personally I think Bela's better but you're splitting hairs. If someone were to say it was a push I wouldn't argue.
I'm finding Bela's picking incoherant and boring lately. I watched him for about 10minutes this past Merlefest and then looked for where the Krugers were playing.
Jens' the best banjo player on the planet, and Uwe and Joel are right there, as well. Amazing...
Sobald ich euch höre, scheint in mir die Sonne!!
How precious is this life when I just happen onto this beautiful piece.
Long live the internet and the Kruger Brothers.
This is the best banjo playing that I have ever seen!!! I am blown away.
One feels the special feeling from the banjo player which projects to the listener. Very classy.
Three amazing musicians.
oh my god, the first tune, seriously..... i get the shivers from beginning to the end! :D its so happy and beautiful, and all three of them put so much love and feeling in what they play!!^^

dear brother...look at your smile when you play ... you are rich without money

Beautiful - lovely sensitive playing - outstanding.
These two songs are the most beautiful I´ve heard so far on the banjo!:)
ua-cam.com/video/rLyM4gCrn1k/v-deo.html

I am from Czech Republic and I saw you in TV show ... I was Amazing, I bought your cd and this song Jack of the wood I listen still again. Thank you
One of my all time favourite yotube videos is Jens sitting with Tut Taylor and playing Georgia on a parlour guitar the Tut made. The uploader made it private years ago and I still yearn to see it again. It was a beautiful thing to behold

Lovely music and some great picking going on. Mark
HOLY CRAP!!! If that's Jens, I've never heard of him before. I just found this on UA-cam. He's fantastic. I think God created the 5 string banjo.
The Steep Canyon Rangers brought me here................ Thankyou !!!
Favorite banjo song
Couldn't have said it any better myself!!!!
its almost scary how tight they are--that has to be a natural gift--you can't learn that
If you know a little bit about swiss folk music....u could tell immediately the influence it has in their playing...wow.I` m quite amazed...
They both are amazing, and some people do play from the heart and soul more than others, but Bela's a genius, he's taken the banjo farther in the music industry than anybody else probably because he loves the instrument
Go boys Go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bela is "GREAT" Jens is FANTASTIC!
Magic!

Listen to the Kruger Brothers' song Waterfall. : ) *That's* the fastest banjo I've ever heard.
People arguing about Jens vs Bela when they're both actually good friends who don't compete with one another XD
Wow!
Meraviglioso!!!
Wow, you are fortunate. Unfortunately I live overseas in a somewhat insular (towards western music) society so I have to roll my own via iTunes & Amazon or travel for most performance opportunities. Definitel going to check their calendar when I next get back home for a few months.
this is class :)
Great Great stuff. I loved the second tune.
You know what? I love Bela Fleck too. It's silly to try put a "better" or "best" label on either of them. They're both amazing.
I am now kicking myself for not attending, I live not 35 miles away!!!
I have only one word for it: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAW!
Probably not like Earl would have done it!! Great technical abilities. Almost Bela-ish!
I've played 5-string banjo for 38 years now, and I know if I played for another 38 years I would never attain half the talent of Jens Kruger. Oh well...
first time i heard them on the radio thought it was the "koopa brothers" lol
It's actually available on Itunes in a pretty similar version
There's not much use in arguing who's the best,it's all personal taste.I like 'em all.

This is brilliant, does anybody know the name of the piece?
Yes, this is solid pickin'
@BanjoShane wait, got it!
Wath kind of according are they using? Steve
Not enough footage of guitarist --- why does he get no love?
Can anyone tell me what piece they are playing?
Jack of the Wood and Night Skies
What is Jens tuning on his banjo?

Joey Gibson jack of the wood
Let's see Katie Perry do THAT!

I don't want my banjo to know this
@therealfabuliz I think your looking into it too much
Well, anyone who tries to argue good, better ,best at this level obviously can't play worth a lick anyway, so why listen to them?
really ? you,v never heard of john hartford then ????
Ahhh - the 🇨🇭 guys Superb as always 😊🍀🎶
