God was gracious and merciful as we should be.
It matters how we win, if we win, as much as winning.

Amen. Thank you pastor David. I remember that it is easy to get mad when someone is giving you an attitude of pride but the test of God is already there for me to see. Instead of getting mad , I should remember what God told me when temptation comes, Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. It reminds myself to guard my heart.

The punishment for Moses can on the surface seem so severe, as he misrepresented The Lord to the people . The Bible full of examples good and bad for OUR learning....... Moses was taken out of the game but is put back in during the tribulation as one of the two witnesses which also shows God’s forgiving heart !!!

When I think of this incident w Moses - I look at it as a greater sin that affected many in the Yiddish community to come, with such order, discipline, and a love for formulas, principles, and rules, the 613 tassels representing our obligations. If we could not keep 10, or even 1 or 2 what makes us think we can keep all those?
What am I saying? Glad you asked. Moses like Pharisees and Sadducees later separated themselves from the people. They considered themselves meticulously "holy" yet not whole by any means. They considered the people like scum. They had little regard or respect for them except to pass on taxations.
    Simply put C-A-P
Contempt - Moses lack of love for the people, is sometimes still exposed by us today in the lies we believe. I love this fella here in fellowship, but I don't have to be his friend or like him. Jesus said we are to love one another, not despise and disdain one another when we fail. For when we fail to lift others, we fail and fall ourselves. We can hate sin, and that is good, but the devil has been around a while and knows how to trip you up.
Anger - definitely not the same kind of compassion Father God, or Jesus showed. He was tired, upset, and in a bad emotional state. We can and should correct our children, yet we should also look at and consider our own sins at their stages as we do, with an understanding, empathy, and prayer that Jesus will give us the patience to both survive the sin so later the same thing that tripped us up is now a strength to His glory in which we can help others.
Pride - finally Moses wore that cap of pride. Me and my brother are better than you. He made you an idol, I killed someone. So easy to see the sins of others, when we forget our own. It is that pride of separation (not to holiness and wholeness) that affected all the high priests (except one) and the rabbis who would follow. Pride in Jesus is the only boast we should have. Pride in ourselves has no place in heaven, for there used to be a guy who fell like lightning after believing his own press notices and wanting what was not his.

God is not a respecter of persons (or animals), He will use a jackass - (in many cases He often does) to get His will accomplished, which is no small miracle. That Baalam heard the jackass and had a conversation with it, makes you think of where we are all at. In the OT you can go book to book and see many examples of how God used wicked kings, and wicked people (even w zeal - Jehu) to get His will done.
