If you have Hulu, there's a really interesting documentary about those family owned donut shops and how they were all started by this one Cambodian man who fled the war and as he opened more shops, he brought more and more Cambodians over. Now something like 85% of family owned donut shops (on the west coast especially) are Cambodian owned!
What an interesting back story!
i can confirm the owner of donut king is cambodian. i was eating gina's bbq on the side of his donut shop and i over heard him speaking in cambodian and i had to ask him what language he's speaking, because i hear laotian, thai, and vietnamese but i hardly hear cambodian being spoken. he was cool with us eating at his table while he took a smoke break.

Thanks for another nice video tour!! I retired in Okinawa Japan 2 years and and really miss the chinese char shue pork I used to get in California. The BBQ pork here is great, but I do miss the char shue style. I really liked the restaurant that you got the BBQ in the wooden bucket. The fact they include mixed vegetables the bucket makes it the best!! Take care, we love your content!!

Mahalo for showcasing the grindZ! Donut King is MOST DEFINITELY MY FAVORITEEE! I don't know if you guys remember Ken's bakery in Waimanalo. Used to go there with my gramz in my hanabaddah days! Haha! But anywho donut king donuts remind me of Ken's bakery donuts. Just fresh every morning and Ken's bakery had these butter rolls that were soooo yummy! And yes Duk Lee is my go to for them Pork Belly!
My Husband and I live in Texas and we will be visiting Honolulu in July. I can't wait to try some of the local spots you've recommended.

You're a good man Felix for letting Amanda have your piece of the char siu. Too bad you didn't try the duck at Duck Lee. IMO, it's just as good as the roast pork belly and char siu. BTW, you luck that you have malasada besides King Donuts. No malasadas in close vicinity to me, but loads of donut places, including King Donuts.

Their noodles is hard
I grew up in NYC and remember the guy shaved a block of ice and put some syrup. Of course I do not think it is the same as Harder's. So what flavors would you recommend?
