What an underappreciated beauty! More nimble and rev-happy than a Testarossa and a subjectively better package than a 355 - the last Ferrari without power steering and with 4 valves/cylinder, way more reliable and easier to service too. What an incredible sound...

People freak out about the engine out service on the 348, but you have to realise that the rear subframe is designed to come out, it is in fact a very straight forward process, I do my own engine out service in my garage at home....Once its out, very easy to do the cambelt, water pump and anything else you want to do.... I actually like working on my 348.

@@garethjones2171 If you want to do it properly, dial the cams in and all the other things that tend to need attention, then the engine comes out, you can't even get the front pulley off with the engine in place so you have to lift the engine up which means disconnecting the engine mounts.....Easier to take the engine out as it was designed to and do the job peoperly. Yes I know it "can" be done, but its not the way to do it of you want it done right.

The 348 is a legendary car, it offers one of the greatest mid engined V8 driving experiences of all the Ferrari lineage (Yes I own a 1993 GTB). The steering in the 348 is a dream, direct precise, the later post 1992 cars have a finely balanced feel on the road, always puts a smile on my face when I push on through some nice twisty roads.... However, to clarify, the horsepower quoted in the video is not correct. The 320hp engine was the F119H which was a high compression model that came out in the post 1994 Spider and a small number of GTB and GTS from 1993 (Not TS and TB Ferrari changed the designation towards the end of production), the F119G was the engine for the US and barely has 300hp, the F119D was the European version and had 312hp. You can tell the F119H as it has different Plenums on it, they have different markings and are taller than the 119G and 119H engines. However, put a decent exhaust on them and they gain a surprising amount of power, also add a decent intake system, and you can get a bit more. The Challenge car in this picture being a Euro car has a F119D engine, you can tell by the plenums. So 312hp from the factory.
I also note the reliability is actually great, they are actually a simple car, just get in and drive!! Great video though I like seeing the 348 getting some love after the totally unfair bad publicity the got initially.

I agree totally with there being a bit of power to be gained with changing out the standard inlet and exhaust system. I've got higher flow air filters and high flow sports cats along with a Nouvalari SuperSport exhaust on my '93 348 TS. Really seemed to make a difference, particularly in throttle response.

Very nice video and fantastic 348. That particular car seems to have the F119D 300hp engine as we can see with the intake plenum. The later version F119H with 320hp has a slightly different and bigger one. I would love that challenge kit still for sale now as makes the car much more special

Really nice video and a very nice car! A couple of bits of info I have - With the introduction of the 355 Challenge rule changes for the 1995 season allowed wheel and engine upgrades for the 348 Challenge. My car, like many others, was fitted with 18" Speedlines and had the engine upgraded to the 320 bhp 'H' spec that year.

All 348 Challenge cars started out as ordinary road cars that were converted by the dealer for the Challenge series. The factory cars you are mixing them up with were 348GTCs. Even the first 355 Challenge cars were dealer fitted kit cars up until late 1996 when 355s went to 5.2 Motronic.

Until now I used to get this car mixed up with the 355 because they looked so similar.👍

  • @realdata1378

Less is more. The entirely analog 348 is the biggest bang for the buck. The 355 has brass valve issues. the 355s electronic adjustable suspension goes out. the 355 spider's roof is one piece and costs $60k to replace. its now or never for the 348 - the shrewdest sports car purchase in the entire Ferrari market.

Not overly confident this is a challenge car? I understand they were all based on GTB cars post 1993 with the 320bhp engine - happy to be corrected though. As others have pointed out, the intake manifold and exhaust is the standard one from a 348 tb and the steering wheel looks incorrect for a challenge. This looks like someone bought a 348 TB and fitted a roll cage, seats and fire extinguisher, and collecting cars sold it for twice what it’s worth?

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green peoples party and Greta FFF Inc. gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated peoples gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil smoke and CO2 generating cars any longer...

    • @ignitionmotorclub8870

They are banning the sale of new ice cars, not the use of older cars. That Would be catastrophic for the environment as people would be throwing away very new cars that were bought pre-2030 which is completely unsustainable when you consider embodied carbon. With this approach most cars on the road will be electric eventually, with classics etc. still in use (perhaps not in cities - although classic cars in the U.K. are ulez exempt?) eventually running on some sort of bio or synthetic fuel I imagine.

China told most politicians that they wont do any business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic, aircrafts, ships or combustion based industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China to 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China.... China just rules the world...:-(

This leads to so many important questions, like: were the Cars Little Boy and Fat Man nukes sentient? Was it a suicide mission? Are ALL Cars nuclear weapons sentient? Did Tsar Bomba have a personality? What kind of car was Car Hitler? A VW? A forklift?
Was there a Cars 9/11? Were the planes hijacked, or were the planes themselves radicalized? I could go on.
