Have a bunch of old lures that were family air looms don't know what there worth old salt water and fresh trying to help my dad out with back taxes on his house I can send picks got some old fishing poles reels etc
That is so much fun opening a box like that, it just makes it feel like Christmas for us older guys. I just became owner of two pflueger's 1988 Capitol with boxes, every time I get my hands of an old vintage equipment I think about the history of where that item came and who might have used it. Thanks you for your take on your new find.
I'd hazard a guess that the rig with the wire leaders shown at 10:50 was probably used for bluefish in the surf. There was a similar rig sold in tackle shops and used for stripers in NJ in the 60's known as a doodle bug with a red and white painted cork used to keep the bait off the bottom. It had mono leaders which bluefish could easily bite off. Serious shark fishermen were few in numbers back then but would have used multistrand wire for a leader which would be less likely to kink and probably a much bigger hook.
I love these videos showing old reels. I have the same Pflueger reel that you showed at the end of your video. I also have an old Ocean City reel (model# 112c), both were used in the 40's & 50's by my dad.
Very cool I did collect old fishing gear but now I collect vintage daisy red Ryder model 94 bb guns and a few 111/ model 40 red Ryder bb guns and the old scout model 75 all old cowboy guns
My guess on the spring thing at 6:8 is some kind of reel that is attached to the side of the boat. Perhaps used like a handline reel that gives spring assist when reeling in a fish. (?)
That gear, is for KINGFISH. King Mackerel. It all makes sense, the drone spoons are for Spanish Macks, the small stuff is for catching bait, but the main gear is ALL big KING gear.
It's for drying old gut line so it didn't rot you couldn't leave it on the reel the days befor mono line
Yup, a line dryer, could also be for silk line, which required drying or it might rot.
Interesting, I don't know much about older tackle but it's nice watching and learning about it
The video will preserve my grandfathers memories forever! Thank you so much!
The metal cross thing is a line dryer from the days of linen and silk
That makes sense. Thanks!
You are correct sir....
I have a pflueger 1893L in perfect condition. I love looking through old tackle boxes. Great video!

I think this makes the most sense. I believe my granddad loved to bluefish out of VA Beach!

The Dupont nylon line is late 1930's to just pre-war.
Thanks, that's older than I would've guessed.
I think the item with the little C clamp on it is a device for winding up a hand line.

The spring-loaded thing with a c clamp on it is a below surface trap for stuff like beavers.
The oil can was made by shakespeare. They are still the best oiler.
May 1963 date (563) for that Akron box. True Blue dates to 1937. Flip the Capital box for its date.
