I’ve lived here my whole life. Never once have I been “tempted” to do bad shit. I’m now about to graduate with a law degree. I like this city. You can find “bad shit” in any city. It’s more about who you are and the choices you make.
There’s temptation everywhere, is why we are here for, to be tempted, tested, but also to win! We just need to call for help, pray for strength, and sometimes just the obvious things like stay away of certain people.. that’s a pretty basic thing. I know some kids feel alone, but I also believe even when we think we are alone, God send us someone to show us the good way, and is up to us to follow or not.
Omg I moved from Boston to Orlando to escape the snow from 2003-2013 and moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and now trying to move to Vegas too. Thank you for making this video, it's very helpful on my decision to move there.
I'm watching your video and it is March 2023. It's nice hear your personal experience living in Henderson, and not from a local real estate agent. LOL! I wonder how you're still feeling about Henderson one year later. Assuming that you are still living there. I'm from San Diego and I can't afford to buy a home here. Not to mention California tax is killing me. So looking at Henderson. It is ranked #3 as the safest city in the US. And the thought of not paying state tax is really attractive. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Looking into moving to Henderson in July….I was born and raised in Florida now I’m currently living in Wisconsin. Planning on taking a trip out there soon to explore the city. It looks amazing!
I'm fascinated with the diversity of opinions on Vegas. I grew up elsewhere and life/work/schooling took me to south Texas, south Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Utah, Ohio, Georgia, even overseas for a few years, but I've spent the the bulk of my adult life in Vegas. There are some nice things like food and live music (and no income tax) but as for the rest, I'm OUT as soon as life circumstances make it possible. It is not a place I've liked raising kids - it's easy enough to stay away from the drug/vice culture but the public schools are.... (no family friendly words I care to use).... it's bad. So bad. We've had to put our kids into private school and that costs more than our mortgage. And the summer is misery. You can't take your kids outside for more than a few minutes, you have to start any outdoor exercise at 4am otherwise it gets too hot, the economy is so undiversified (tourism, tourism, tourism) that if anything disrupts that (fuel costs, labor strikes, flight/trucking disruptions, a virus) then even if you don't work in the hospitality industry, the trickle-down effect is still very real. The few "outdoor" spots that everyone loves to bring up (Mt. Charleston, Red Rocks, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire) -- once you've been to each a few dozen times, it's pretty boring. And poor Lake Mead - prolonged drought has made it a ghost of its former self. We've worked very hard to garden and had some success, but not without a lot of time, money and effort. It is like trying to grow stuff on the surface of the moon. Would I move here again? Yes, because I love my family and that is what brought me here to begin with. Am I counting the minutes until we can leave? YES!
Don't forget about bike touring too (being close to other neighboring states with beautiful landscape sights). I'll be in Henderson by the end of September 2021 coming from San Diego, CA. :) #1 Hobby of mine...outdoor activities and Nevada fits the bill.
Love it. My gf and I are moving to Henderson in June! Im going to be coaching soccer there. But I was wondering if you know any startup businesses that are hiring? Or where to look for them. Indeed is terrible for startups lol
For anyone wanting a respite from the gambling culture / mindset, Boulder City is just 15-20 minutes away. It's one of just 2 towns in Nevada were gaming is prohibited within the city limits.
Moving there in summer 0f 2022. I am very familiar with the city because my grandparents have been living there since the late 80s. I live in the North SF Bay area. I am done with it and California.
Just came back from a 2 week vacation in Henderson to visit my Brother for the first time in 34 years and I too am impressed with everything you said here but my wife was here in 2017 and does not feel the same way I do. She is a Realtor and pays our expensive mortgage on our house.
I think what I love the most about the Las Vegas area in general is the fact that most places stay open 24 hours. I live in Georgia and with Georgia being a Bible-Thumping state, everything closes too early for my taste. I’ve been here 8 years and I’m still not used to not being able to go to Walmart at 2am just for the heck of it. Lol. Great video!
Great review, Tony. I'm moving up there shortly, and I agree the only negative item is the sight of gambling casinos. Fortunately, they are clearly labeled, so one need only stay away from them. As far as the machines in commercial locations, they are depressing. To see the underside of the human experience so starkly emphasized is dark and uncomfortable. But the blight I'm leaving behind in Los Angeles, the human sh*t on the sidewalk, the smashed glass at the bus stop's movie poster display case, the insane aggressive people that keep coming up to me when I go for my morning walk, I'll be happy to trade them for the eye sore of a slot machine. Well, not happy, but I'll do it. I'm so sick of LA. They just passed a law that makes it illegal for the cops to arrest a hooker for standing on the sidewalk, soliciting. So you know within weeks, every street corner in LA and the Valley will have hookers on them. It was like that in 1978 when I first moved here. Horrible. I thought LA could not get worse; I was WRONG.
Everything used to be open before the pandemic....Now not really too much stuff stays open really late anymore...I think Winco might be 24 hours again but the Walmarts that used to be 24 hours aren't anymore. I love living here but stuff has changed a lot since the pandemic
Thank you Tony! We learned alot from your video. Can you make a video on a checklist you used to move to Henderson from California? My husband and I are looking for an active 55 and better life!!!

I like your review. Though i'd have to argue that the story at the end is very anecdotal and i wouldn't make long term decisions based on that. The appeal of gambling, drugs, sex are really every where. It's like you said parenting would be key. Though i would talk about the supposedly terrible school system if you were going into long term plans. Thank you for the video it gave me a lot to think about.
There’s lots of lds churches in there, and other churches, so there’s good influences, if the 17 year old chose to be around the bad influences, that was his choice. I lived in SP/Brazil with all that you said, legalized prostitution, people doing drugs, etc. Even with PTSD I chose to stay around the “good” kids.
