- Audrey Amar, Michelle Kahn, Mr. Amar and Peter Abrams witness Havdallah in the Sephardic style
July 24, 2010, 10:57PM
Please not this video, in its entirety, is copywritten and under the sole ownership of Oy-Oy Productions.
It is such a joy to see a family that uses the authentic Syrian pronunciation. Using your ancestral pronunciation makes your beautiful traditions even more beautiful.
Havdalah is meant to be Joyous, no need to be somber, yes we regret that Shabbat has ended but we are always overflowing with joy at the opportunity to worship HaShem, awesome Job Shavua Tov, Ohio USA
I see this video every Saturday for Havdalah. hello from Colombia!
My family came from Marocco some 120 years ago to Brazil, but the family has roots back in Spain. We have very much similar melodies to these ones.
Before Spain your families roots would be in Judaea, that’s literally why we’re called Jews lol
I didn't mean to go this much back in time
The tunes of these brachos are beautiful!
keep sharing this video everyone. lets show everyone how awesome sephardic people really are!!!!!!
It's so wonderful to see how much Jewish customs can vary. I'm ashkenazi, and I've never seen havdalah like this. Does anyone know where I can find more information on Sephardic rituals.
+madeline mehok Google is a great help, or check out your local Sephardic synagogue or their website

Check out this video too! I love Sefardic style Hebrew and Prayers, styles and customs too.
I believe they taught us Israeli Hebrew in school when I was little and it's why Ashkenazi pronunciation always seems off to me.

Sephardic don’t quench the flame in the wine at the end but blow out the candle. I wonder why? Beautiful, l’chaiy’m!
Boker Tov ve Shavua Tov many Greetings from Germany . My familiy is from Germany and Poland , huge Havdallah ceremony . Shalom Maleichem Rinah
Shalom Michelle, this was beautiful. As an Italian Jew I love the Sephardim tradition. I wish I was there with you doing Havdalah.
I would love to know more about Italian Jewish traditions. I have found UA-cams where theyh sing beautiful Italki Jewish melodies and they are just wonderful but what bothers me about them is that it doesn't seem to me like they use the Italki pronunciation.
Gracias por compartir! Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Mexico! Shalom!
very nice that your these habits in your family!
Congratulations!
This is very nice always like to hear Havadlah! So your family and father are from Morooco I see. This tune is morroccan orginally though from spain. I love this tune.

💙🖖😭 Beautifull...(Brazil).. barzilay....Tank you...Baruch Hashen💗💗💗💗
K bellos ☺️ Buena semana Sephardic 💙🤍❤️
shabbat is technically over when it gets dark (or in the olden days we would look out and if you see 3 stars then shabbat was over). nowadays, we have precise calculations. Anyway, if u want to use electricity you fire you can say "baruch hamavdil ben kodesh lechol" before u do havdalah. So yes the camera can be on and yes you can light a fire, granted you said the blessing... then you can proceed with havdalah
Shalom, by Brazil.
happy to have you as much as you'd like!! :) shavuah tov
Beautiful! Saludos desde Brazil
shalom from brazil
Beautiful!
Beautiful❤😄I love it
Michelle, that Havdalah is really beautiful, and I've looked through different Sephardic siddurim to find one with this exact wording (specially the part "toratenu, medinatenu... etc" right before the blessings, but I couldn't find any. Do you know what specific Sephardic siddur Mr. Amar is using?
I will try and find out! :) Thank you for watching!!!
cool film, full respect from a convert in england
This brings memories back.

Amazing how u all found each other in Canada!
thank you so much for sharing this. May I have permission to share it on my site.
Forgive my ignorance, but what song were they all singing together at the end? Btw: what a loving, fun family! even with the girls being so silly, one does not doubt that they love and respect their father. makes me miss my own dad ❤
I will try and find out for you! I am visiting this family and joining them for their havdallah. I am the one on the right. It was a great experience!
@Gwynsek shavuah tov!!!! thanks for commenting/watching :)
god bless you and the girls!
That's how a havadallah should be like! Full of joy.
what a nice family! this is realy what its about!
Thank you so much. Are you currently in Italy?
Years had passed and i did not find this version of havdalah. It is moroccan? Can anyone send-me a link or site.. that has this especific rite?
this made me smile!! what a joyful family!! Im not jewish, but i would like to know what was that? i bet that its a prayer you make after shabbat!! any way i love the way you feel free to laugh and dance while reading (maybe" the torah") hamsa alikom! judaism looks openmind religion!! shalom from morocco
Closing prayer for shabbat and some holidays. This isn't the standard way to do it. Different parts of the world sing it differently. I'm ashkenazi and never heard it done like this. This is probably syrian/Moroccan
From where did your family originated? I ask because the melody I use is very similar, the only difference is the Amavdil song, which we, Sephardim from Turkey sing a shorter version and it's in both Hebrew and Ladino.
Can you give me the lyrics to the last song ?
Shabua Tob Muy Lindo Toda raba H.
Wow. The introductory paragraph is totally different from the Ashkenazi version. Sweet!
TOV MEOD. BARUCH HASHEM! SHABBAT SHALOM.
Fun and such joy. I do not know the zimra at the end. Love it. To the Sephardi sisters, a Gut Vocht from an Ashkenazi sister. ;)
Greetings from Spain.
hi!!
u can find them in the Sidur Hamercaz... shabat bueno ke tengash...!!!
Que lindo
Shavua tov!!! dec 21 2019
Great. Shana.tovah as well and ah gutten vinter!
You do your Havdalah different. I notice you don't use a braided Havdalah candle and you don't distinguish the candle out in the wine.
Lindas!😍
תודה רבה שלום
Similar to Chabad minhag..
What siddur, and how can I find what you're reading?
muchas payasadas
shalom
Thank you. You have inspired me to do that...
If Mr. Amar can , please videou tape him making Kiddush (not on Shabbat though), and Seder (not on Pesah though!) It woudl be a treat to hear him say Bivhiluuu Yatzaanu MiMitzrayim and the Hagadah in Ladino. My Father Ah has a special way of doing it, I can imitate but never duplicate what he did... Mr Amar being probably still from Tangiers is my guess is still the closest to it, unfortunately not many left... Are you guys in Toronoto? I know that Toronto has a large Tangerino Community led by Rabbi Amram Assayag, Shlita. Best. I have relatives in Toronto... you probably know them because they have a store in the heart of Bathhurst, Isaacs Bakery
Let me see what can be done. Its a great idea!
@westminster72 So I looked up the name and primarily it comes from Brazil. Now you can trust the iternet if he wish hahaha, but I would still look into it. Have you asked family? cousins?
Excelente
