    The twisting tunnel shot in Infested was so cool. One of my favorite shots in a recent horror movie. It had Sam Raimi vibes but more expansive. If they do more stuff like that in Evil Dead they could have a classic on their hands.

    I watched Fantastic Planet as a kid, and the bit with the box trap freaked me out! The whole film is pretty freaky. I love the soundtrack which is worth finding and listening to on its own.

    The daddy from the ring is also in X playing a hilariously different type of character. It made me laugh so much the first time I saw x because it’s such a different type of character for him.
    I agree that the strangers pray at night is really underrated.

    I watched What We Do in the Shadows in April too and I'm really curious to see the show now! I watched Strangers Prey at Night when it came out in theaters in Colombia and it was a good time, I'm looking forward to the remake of the original but at the same time the trailer looks very generic. We'll see! The Bye Bye Man is on my list, as well as Grave Encounters, I'm in the mood for some cheesy horror 😊👻

    I liked Baby Reindeer, but I also probably laughed a lot in places I wasn't supposed to. I just found the main character so hopelessly infuriating as he seemed incapable of doing anything right and handle the situations he found himself in much better than he did. I actually felt sorry for his stalker as he really wasn't helping the situation by his actions. I recommend reading Fight Club if you're doing a deep dive.

  • @quixodeath8879
    @quixodeath8879 7 місяців тому

    ok this may be entirely out of pocket and not related to the video but...have you ever considered a Rob Zombie deep dive? Also you should do more italian/giallo content (not just cuz of being in Italy but also because Italian horror is god-tier and giallo is such a great genre) and like Lucio Fulci stuff.
    But yeah, love what you do! Keep it up!

    For animation, try Gulliver’s Travels (1939) animated film. Max Fleicher’s animation is very fluid to Disney’s Bros. Grimm classics. Or Heavy Metal anthology. You’ll love or be distracted by the soundtrack. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is one of a few films that used a variety of real bugs in a scene. There may be a few spiders in it as well.

    I think Prey at Night is relatively well-liked in some circles, but yeah, it's a lot more divisive than the first movie. Critics were pretty harsh on it for like no reason (then again, they weren't exactly kind to the first one either...) In some ways I get it, it's a lot more of a traditional slasher than the original was, but like I don't think I would've wanted it to just repeat the exact same structure and formula and style.
    Although of course it seems the new movie seems to be doing that anyway. Maybe. I don't really even know anymore lol
    But yeah I LOVE Prey at Night. Characters worth caring about, memorable set pieces and scares, a really great climax of a different sort from the original. What's not to love honestly

    First, sad to hear you were sick on your vacation.
    Second, glad you’re feeling better to do this video.
    Always nice to hear what you watched the previous month. Some I’ve seen and some to put on my want to watch list.
    Speaking of your finally watched like. Can’t wait to see what you thing of “The Long Kiss Goodnight” I know you have it since I sent one to you. Plus it’s a nice clippy DVD too. 🙂 Don’t worry I’m very patient. I’m not going anywhere. I do like what you have found that is good.
    Glad you watched The Birds, a classic. I watched it years ago on TV with a friend and his sisters in a converted attic. The girls would scream what added to the fun.
    Myself, I have not been to Italy yet. 😉 Would love to sometime. Seeing people eating pizza with a knife and fork. 😳 Being a former New Yorker I just pinch mine. 👍

    Infested was such a positively weird movie for me to experience. Like, rapidly reproducing giant spiders is silly. However, the movie plays the concept straight. But the movie really hits its stride and has some legitimately intense scenes and emotional moments with the main characters. The ending fumbles a bit, in my opinion, but it doesn't ruin the experience.
    It's like...the anti Night Swim, which had a goofy concept, played straight but can't manage to hold any cohesion whatsoever.

    Baby Reindeer was the deepest, most honest exploration of trauma (and its impossibly messy cycles) that I had experienced since I first saw Mysterious Skin 15 years ago. It brought up a lot of complicated feelings and led to me starting to come to terms with some of my own SA trauma from when I was a kid and a teen, as I was, like just about every millenial transfemme, living as a boy back then.
    The inclusion of a trans woman in this story also made it extra impactful to me for reasons that are still hard for me to articulate at the moment. The take of Teri being a fetishized character irks me as shallow and cynical. She was obviosuly so much more than that, at least to me.

  • @ryanguerra9266
    @ryanguerra9266 8 місяців тому

    I’ll say this about Godzilla X Kong, it was pretty cool to see Mothra. They delayed the movie so that they could include her or so I heard
    She was created by the same people behind godzilla (Toho) to be a good monster, if that makes sense lol she had a movie of her own in the early 60s before joining the Godzilla franchise but when she did, she became the second most popular character in its entirety, appearing in many of the movies through the decades and reboots. Even getting her own reboot trilogy in the 90s. Hope this makes things more clear.
    Also, I recommend watching the og Mothra vs Godzilla but only when you have the time and energy. it’s a personal favorite of mine lol

    Nice recap! Sorry to hear that you’ve been violently sick while traveling, that sucks!! Hope you can recover in Italy. Maybe that spot on your eye is your father blessing you lol the eyes are the windows to the soul after all! I haven’t seen baby reindeer yet but with everyone talking about it, I’m intrigued..
    I wanted to love godzilla X kong but I didn’t lol my dad always says that the Japanese are the only ones who can make a good godzilla movie, cheesy or serious and I agree 100% it felt like giant, underground planet of the apes and i just think the Japanese films are more imaginative with their monster foes.
    Oh no, you broke the first rule of F**** C***! You’re not supposed to talk about it! Hahaha I’m honestly very surprised that you loved it! Definitely interested in your deep dive of it! I also recommend you read the book! It’s a short read and much more gay than the movie! (The author is gay lol)
    I saw a clip of the snails on UA-cam but what was weird and cool about it was someone used the film footage as a unofficial music video for a song by TOOL, it was trippy hahah
    I didn’t see challengers either but I did see the dua lipa parody skit on SNL lol I still don’t get it lololol
    Glad to hear you checked out the hunger! I agree it can be a little slow but the atmosphere, cast, music and vibes definitely make it for me. I think it’s just a little slow for your gen z tastes lol no shade I swear..
    I’m so glad you loved What we do in the Shadows!! That’s one of my all time favorite vampire movies! If you loved that, you gotta check out the tv series of the same name!! It’s a different cast and location but it’s got all the same spirit, humor, and special effects that the movie has! It already has 4 seasons and it’s on Hulu!! Check it out!
    I remember catching the strangers prey at night with my old college buddy in theaters when I was visiting him. Loved the pool scene and all the 80s music! I totally agree with you that it’s underrated! Definitely wanna rewatch it since I haven’t seen it since.
    I checked out infested just last night and I liked it! I think it was a little slow at times but all the spider scenes ruled! That moment when they stepped on the spider and a bunch of babies came crawling out! That once happened to my mom but instead of a spider it was a scorpion!! Glad to see that the upcoming evil dead movie is in good hands!
    Thank you again dark mistress for this great recap! Hope you’ll have a more healthy and safe stay in Italy! The food is definitely an upgrade from the last place you were at lol Eat some pasta for me!

    Dope shirt, reminds me of Freddy's sweater color wise.. Fight Club is one of the rare films that brings out the hater in me lol.. I've been annoyed by it since it came out, mostly due to a good friend at the time being obsessed with it, but there's always been something annoying about it for me.. that being said, I definitely respect it and it's a certified classic regardless of what I think, and there's actually quite a bit I really like about it.. always been a big fan of Brad Pitt and Edward Norton as actors and Helena Bonham Carter is always interesting.. it's also a film with great replay value.. I can watch it tonight and potentially love it, but I remember being annoyed by it last time I saw it.. I joke that the best thing about the film is that it introduced the Pixies to the masses lol.. so I guess I have a like/hate relationship with it, but 1999 was stacked and it's definitely not one of my faves from that year..
    Glad you liked The Strangers Prey at Night! I definitely like the original more, but I enjoyed the sequel.. the original is like an homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween while the sequel is more of a straightforward modern slasher done well.. both films have completely different vibes..

    • @HauntedHippie
      @HauntedHippie  8 місяців тому +1

      I mean Fight Club is definitely annoying but dare I say that may be intentional hahah

    • @BB13131313
      @BB13131313 8 місяців тому

      @@HauntedHippieyep, I'd agree that it was likely intentional, I mean David Fincher knows what he's doing.. but when you combine the film itself plus the way fans always talked and continue to talk about it, it just irks me lol.. I remember seeing ( just looked to confirm) a top comment on Letterboxd saying "I love Fight Club but hate people who love Fight Club", which almost sums up how I feel lol, but I get it bc there are films where I contribute to being part of the annoying fanbase lol..

    As a trans woman myself, I thought the trans woman storyline in baby reindeer was explored purely from his honest point of view. At that point his confusion about his sexuality led him there, not saying it’s right, but simply that that’s where his head was at the time. In a perfect world, he would know better than to think that way. But he was struggling with his own realized prejudice while dating her, and ultimately seemed to regret having that get in the way? That’s just how interpreted it but maybe I’m being too optimistic.

    • @HauntedHippie
      @HauntedHippie  8 місяців тому +1

      Tbh I didn’t really view it with a critical lens when watching it. The only time I thought it was a little off was when he was grappling with whether he liked men or women and then this trans woman came into his life and his narration made it seem like she was the perfect solution between the two or something? I was like hm. But again it seemed honest to me too I didn’t reeeeally think twice about that so to each their own. I appreciate your perspective!
