I read this book years ago. I'm going to give it another read this week. Thanks for the reminding.

I purchased this book a year ago and only read a few chapters full of great actionable ideas but I need to go back to finish it after watching your review. Becoming the director and producer of your own show is critical. Thanks again for a great review.

This was exactly the video I needed to see. I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed as I was thinking about how to put together a stand-up show for the first time. I read this book a while ago but you reminded me of how much great practical knowledge there is in this book. I will be revisiting its pages!

Great review! I just ordered one from Vanishing Inc. I'm not sure how I feel about audio magic books though. I might buy that version sometime just to give it a try. I have seen other reviews about this book, but they didn't portray the concept of what it's all about like you did. It's almost like you read it before doing the review....LOL. Thanks again!

I really dislike audiobooks, the main reason I prefer books over videos is because reading is an active engagement, where just watching/listening is far too easy to fall into merely passive.

After giving it some thought, 2 books come to mind: "Mastering the Art of Magic" by Eugene Burger and "The Death Camp Magicians." They're 2 *completely* different books, but they both inspire me as a magician for different reasons.
Mastering the Art of Magic has a bunch of wonderful tricks, but interspersed throughout are some incredible essays on the art of magic that will definitely help you feel empowered as a magician.
The Death Camp Magicians shares no magic methods, but instead will make you proud of how magic can help ignite the imagination through a powerful story of survival and forgiveness.
I hope you'll check out both - great question!

I have read this book two times in a row. I am thinking also buying Perform Better Shows from Tim Hannig. Is that also a must buy or is Maximum Entertainment enough? For me it costs €140,- to buy Perform Better Shows because of the shipping costs.

I'm glad to hear he writes on stage etiquette etc. As someone who books entertainment and is very involved with my acts, there's nothing more annoying than someone with terrible mic technique or zero knowledge of the things they need to be in control of in their presentation.
