the creators said that Aang died a little younger than most avatars due to living 100 years in the iceberg. I think Korra takes place 70 years after AtlA
Living to 70 is pretty impressive in it of itself
@@NK-dt1kp He didn't live to 70. He died in his 60s. This is 70 years after (more or less) because Korra is also older than Aang when the show begins so the 70 years include that too (70 = 17 + X where X is how long Aang lived after the end of the show where he was around 13, so Aang lived to be around 13 + 53 = 66)
It was in his 60s bruh and it’s in the comics
Also, the creators may have done their own math wrong, because between the amount of statues in the air temple and a little info from Season 2 Korra, and factoring in Kyoshi basically living the lifespan of three avatars, you need a lot of Kuruks dying in their 30s to 40s to make it work out. Granted, the more we go back the more it makes sense for the Avatar to die a violent death in battle or early on, but still, someone needs to bring down the curve because the average lifespan of an Avatar is 50something
@@oq1106 Oh it's been made very clear that maths weren't in the creator's minds when they developed the series.
Kyoshi only lived that long because of a math error, the firelords' family tree is fucked because they didn't realise that 100 years is a long time...
JK Simmons as Tenzin is such a great fit for the character, I absolutely love it.

Fun Fact: - When the creators of the show initially created the concept of the Avatar and its story, the 1st 3 characters they sketched were Aang, Momo and Naga.
So, Naga was conceptualized before Appa !!
Beifong is the last name of Toph because remember Toph came one of the richest families in the Earth Kingdoms
Ange blew my mind with that comment. Toph is like... the only character in AtLA with a confirmed last name and they don't remember it 🤣
Forwarned: when the creators made the show, they weren't sure if they were going to do a second season, and the same thing happened during season 2, but afterwards they were cleared for a season 3 and 4. I mention this because the writers tried to wrap the storyline within the season, so you might not see an overarching story as much because of this. But i hope you enjoy the show 😊, I'm really excited for you guys to learn more about avatar lore.
This show really suffers from lack of Cohesion due to the producers not knowing what to expect.
The thing is that there are much a whole lot of different stories which are not spoken in between Atla and Legend of Korra... Those were officially covered by the books they published...
1. Story of Zuko's Mom...
2. What happened to Azula after Atla
3. Tensions rise again in Fire kingdom and Earth kingdom
4. Creation of Republic City
And then after all that comes Legend of Korra
Surprisingly, Korra is way more of a firebender than any other type, both in personality and in her preferred bending type. Someone tallied up every use of her using each element through the series and she pulls out firebending the most.
Which is super interesting considering fire is normally the opposite of water, but it just seems to come more naturally to her with her personality type.
I Would Say She's More EarthBender....
It's also the element Aang had trouble with the most besides Earth bending, this is one aspect I love about the avatar cycle is that it's not perfect
Aang struggled with the fighting aspects of bending due to his gentle and spiritual upbringing, so it overcorrected and made korra super good at the former but completely sucks at the latter
She's really a toss up between earth and fire as I see it, because her stubbornness knows no bounds, but she does have a lot of passion. Fire is just always going to be more convenient to use if you don't have water, aren't good with air, and don't want to completely dismantle public infrastructure. The fact that she never seemed to have any water issues says to me that her personality leans earth.

They discoverd another specie who has more stripes on there backs than the original there are also another species of flying lemurs to.

Aang was someone who tried to be a person but has to learn to be the Avatar. Korra is someone who tries to be the Avatar but should learn how to be a person.
Some gaps will be filled in but the show is also good at being its own thing while carrying on a lot of good aspects from atla. Regarding the mixed reviews, its mostly because some seasons are much better than others. Atla was just getting better and better
Also AtLA focused on one major story with many side stories where as Korra has more stories and less side stores in general while also handling a new changing world and a more female cast of characters this time around. So we can see why it's a little divisive.

I love how the Avatar has aged with its audience. Aang was 12, Korra’s 17. The Kiyoshi and Yangchen books follow their stories when they’re in their late teens. And the 2025 movie is supposed to follow the original crew in their late 20’s-early 30’s.
As we age, the characters in the Avatar universe age with us.

It’s important to keep in mind when watching that Korra was written in sections. The first season was written and the writers didn’t know if they would get a second until after it aired, and same for the second. It was only in season 3 they knew they would get another book after.
Saying someone is "gone" is ambiguous and I'm hopeful that Sokka and everyone else simply gone to the market to get some snacks.
I don't know if anyone has talked about this with you, but the continuation of the story you want to see is in the comics. It continues directly after the end of Aang's story and they are very good!
Always get emotional thinking about that scene in ATLA when Katara says “F*ck the police” and the gaang starts blasting NWA 🥹

To think J.K. Simmons went from a pacifist airbender to a murderous Viltrumite in Invincible
The opening of this show always makes me cry 😂 just out of sheer sadness that aang isn't there. And seeing everything he and the gang were able to create together
Aang was a peacekeeper when the world needed a warrior and Korra is a warrior when the world needs a peacekeeper they are opposite.
You guys will love the lore and villains in this show, can’t wait!
Answer for aang's early death (Not a spoiler) : He lost a lot of life force while staying in the ice berg for 100 yrs.
So, he has been alive for approx. 160+ yrs.
I remember the moment when Katara told that Sokka was dead... I screamed "Sokka is dead?" and started to cry

Korra is a great show in its own right. it just has the unfortunate role of being an indirect sequel to one of the best shows ever made, and it can never quite live up to the expectations that come with that.
I love how different Korra is to Aang and we experience her own journey, season 1 and 3 are amazing, season 4 is good, the weakest being season 2 but it has its moments tho. Hope u guys enjoy the ride!!
Season two has Tony stark and the twins who are the best supporting characters. It also imo has the best lore expanding.
I agree the main antagonist is pretty boring though
Season 3 is BEAST MODE incarnated.
Now I feel bad season two turned me so completely off that I never finished the series.
@habbito21 season 3 is the atla level but still not perfect. Too many characters introduced with not much development for many of them, the brothers become obsolete and completely underused, they also become parodies of their characters.
This show is great! Appreciate it for all it is and try to avoid comparing constantly and you will love it

Korra takes place 70 years after ATLA. Korra is 17 in Book 1. It has been said by many that "ATLA is about a person learning to be the Avatar, and Korra is about an Avatar learning to be a person."
Korra is voiced by Janet Varney, who also voiced Keyleth's mother in S2 of Vox Machina.
Tenzin is voiced by JK SIMMONS!
All of aang’s kids were named after someone special
Tenzin- named after Tenzin Gyatso
Kya- katara’s mom Kya
Bumi- king bumi (aang’s best friend)
The best part about this reaction is, it's fresh off the Last Airbender high which woulda been the best feeling if it aired in the same fashion back then. The worst part of the episode, the truth with time passing, my heart couldn't handle the truth about Aang, Sokka, and honestly I accepted the fact about Iroh but still hurt
I think not expecting this show to live up to ATLA's reputation will make you enjoy this even more!

I've been waiting for this reaction for a long time 🙏
I've never considered it but the way I see it is either.
1. Appa was actually female. Elephants have like a 22 month gestation period while pregnant, the whole first show took place over only like a year and Aang didn't age while frozen. Maybe Appa was pregnant and then got frozen and was pregnant for the whole show and gave birth after.
2. Appa was male. Maybe he reproduced with a regular bison, you only need half of the DNA for the flying part perhaps.
3.Appa was from somewhere else. So if sky bisons can fly even as a baby as shown in flashbacks, whilst they can live with airbenders, perhaps they are like migratory animals. There's tons of them in the world but they live above the clouds or in places that are uninhabited by most people. Air benders came across them because they can get to these strange places, or at least fly with their gliders. The sky bisons that live with the airbenders are just a handful of the many that there are.
Option 3 makes the most sense.

Don't speculate that everyone is dead because you don't know the ones who are alive or dead at the moment.

It is 70 years from the time of Firelord Zuko's coronation, at the end of ATLA, to Korra, at 17, taking her firebending test. She is 4 years old when we see her first. Katara was 14 in ATLA; Aang and Toph were 12; Sokka, Suki, and Zuko were 16. Katara said her brother and many of her friends were gone, which could mean dead, but could also mean she is just out of touch with them.
Personality and Mentality is a lot more connected to bending types as Iroh had taught us.

Biggest difference between LOK + ATLA was that Korra only ever got 1 season at a time, it was originally meant to be a mini series.
I love you carlie it took me like 3 years to watch the first season of korra because I'd get so sad whenever they said aang's dead, I always stopped the episode right where you began crying
Water is the element of change. Keep this on mind while you're watching Korra

Do you guys remember Gyatso, Aang's mentor and father figure? I don't remember if I or anyone else ever told you when you watched A:TLA, but Gyatso was named after the 14th and current Dalai Llama, Tenzin Gyatso. Guess which other Character was named after the (current) Dalai Llama as well?
I think it's really great, actually. Aang's often-carefree, but sometimes-deadly-serious -- and also fun-loving -- personality, as well as everything he learned from the Airbending Monks -- Pacifism, Vegetarianism, an open mind to other cultures and people, etc. -- was heavily based on the the current Dalai Llama himself; and of course the concept of the Avatar itself was heavily based on the concept of the ever-reincarnating Dalai Llama.
So to have both his adoptive father, and his son, named after Tenzin Gyatso feels very very fitting, at least to me. In fact, it's one of my favourite details across both series.
And know we learnt real world tenzun is a pedophile. Bummer

I just want to say: Season 3, best season of all ever
Just a heads up, don't go into this series with expectations that it will answer questions about Aang and the Gaang. Most people who were disappointed by LoK were disappointed because they wanted it to be a continuation of ATLA. There will be a few easter eggs and fanservice moments, but for the most part, LoK distances itself from the old show and tries to tell its own story. If you really want to know more about Aang and the Gaang, I recommend reading the comics that cover that period.

3:16 it’s a very common mistake but korra has not mastered the other elements here , she’s just about to do small feets here , just like aang could do quite a bit with water with out having any training and same with fire able to create a fire ball from a simmering leaf with 1 day of squatting , korra is about 5 here and in the time jump she’s 17 so it’s been a good 12 years to master water , earth and here she has just completed her fire bending test
It's not a Masterpiece as avatar, for myself there are like 3 things i really like from this series. It's due to not getting like a "3 seasons contract", it was just gonna be 1 book, then production started for book 2 as a solo thing too, then the next one and yes, it's not a full circle as avatar or fma:b
