I'm a 65 year old farmer/truck driver who farms about 2000 acres around 200 miles north of you. Just get on highway 14 and start driving north. I'm mainly watching these videos to see what a pain pivot systems can be. I never would have thought that they could be so bothersome. I had lunch the other night in Central City after delivering at the city shop there so I was kind of grubby. While standing in line at the Dairy Queen theY guy behind me asked if I had been irrigating. Thats when I decided to check out the whole irrigating thing. Your stuff came up on my UA-cam search. I have to say that it is certainly enlightening. There is quite a difference between what you people do down there compared to what we do up here. You guys have a lot higher level of management involved. My daughter also was very involved with the farm, she was able to operate any piece of equipment on the farm. Then she got married. I don't get to work with her very much anymore, but the grandchildren like to come to the farm and learn. I'm sure your father looks forward to you coming home with great anticipation. He is one lucky fella. He comes across as a great guy and I'm sure that he makes working a lot of fun.
I hope that Grant realizes how lucky he is. Farm girls are awesome in a because they have a good attitude, work ethic, and skillset. Dare I say none are as gorgeous as Laura! Looks like you guys are going to make an awesome team.
Your Facebook story a couple of days ago and the little clip in this video about the dogs seeing you for the first time in a couple of weeks absolutely melted my heart! 🥺🐾❤️
Laura, your videos are the happy part of my day; and this is another great post that lets me farm vicariously through you and your dad. I was involved with seed corn and bean production with Syngenta (formerly Northrup-King); and I farmed near one of Golden Harvest's seed farms near Eldred. IL. Also, as a Leeser driver I've picked up and delivered seed to the Pioneer plant near you. Look forward to your next video.
there is alot more to the corn fields i see everywhere in central illinois never knew there was any work being done just see them get bigger then go away over and over
You could have dropped the ladder, jogged back for the bike, then collected the ladder. But you kept fit , saved fuel and helped the environment, way to go Laura Farmer.
LOL Laura,.... Did anyone on the MFG side of the sprinklers decide that maybe.... just maybe .... that a ball-valve to shut off the water to the head ..... Might come in handy???? .....Stay Safe Girl... Ciao.

Then it was work half to 3/4th time, I did track, Cross Country running and Wrestling and some of my own running and lifting. Yay!! Is it weird that I missed y'all. You and Grant's smiles are contagious, great vid, lots of laughs in this one. Once again, thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work.😎
Great Video Laura! Hope School is going well! Probably in about 7 months will be Graduated! Looking forward to Y’all Wedding. The reflective rain suit looked good but for sure wearing a rain suit with rubber work boots on HOT weather is rough!! Great to see the “ring” “ glistening” when you were looking at turnips. Always enjoy seeing the package reception y’all get if your able to show. Love Dad “making it rain” with the sprayer. Your Dad is very funny! Thanks for sharing y’all’s life with us. Congrats on 60K, hope it increases!
Dwayne Koblitz and from an un- informed nu - bie, it looks to be a huge string of dominoes... Skip one, knock one out of place, or just miss one, and it affect/effects the whole process n the product could be severly damaged!!?? YES/NO??!! WOW........ No pressure! Good luck all!!! GWWW... Ooouuuttt!!!
It's great to see how the crop has come along, doesn't seem like it was that long ago when you were planting it and had just a few hundred subs(I'm an OG;) and no you have over 60k subs and it's damn near harvest time!
Hi Laura, I follow your channel in the city of Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. I love to see your skill with the machines. Congratulations.
Seed corn pre spray (defoliate) before harvest.....prior to potato harvest Vapan is applied to fields to stop growth and dry the vines so they will go through the harvesters and chop easier
I just joined and I love you guys I subscribe remind me so much of my oldest daughter my name is greatly I'm so happy you guys got engaged put a smile on my face
I loved Nebraska so much! I was in Nebraska a few years ago on military orders, I was actually in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was so fun, especially trying out the Vapor Shots, and going to Barry's roof top bar. The atmosphere in that area is amazing. The only other place I have ever seen near as fun is Nashville, TN and the Stockyards in Texas! :)
Whoa I'm early. This is crazy. I shouldnt be YouTubin by a fire at 1am right now drinking and missing my daughter. Its been a year and a half and still can't stop wishing she was here still. Anyways...our seed corn is still green. I was surprised it stood back up part way after the crazy land hurricane...great vid Laura. Thanks for giving us part of your time.
Nice video! Keep up the good work! That sadi, I'm only form central North Dakota so take it for what its worth,(lol), but most of us here would have left the ladder and walked to the 4 wheeler and drove back to get it!(: makes your day go better and easier!
I have legitimately wondered why some corn looks dead at the end of season before harvest and some doesn't. I guess even an old guy like me can learn something every day.
Looks like a lot of people have the right idea about what to do with the ladder.. you’ll think about it next time since you’re a college girl.. good video anyway next time show us what the sprinkler head looks like.. have a lot of alfalfa growing and Smith Valley nevada ,with that kind of sprinkler or watering system
Wait till the end of harvest. Drive tractor under each head. Step outside the door and remove all heads. Take back to the shop and clean for next season.
Ive followed the harvest in Nebraska. Corn pickers usa. Had also of fun. Met alot of cool people. Every old man that drove by, gave me beer. Lol. Funniest thing I've ever seen. Of course I took it. Be rude not to. 😂
Ya! Laura, your Dad is differently like mine. So keep him away from the Super Glue! My Dad glued his fingers together when it first came out, he also cut them apart with a razor. Talk about getting creeper out!
No through the ladder down ,and walk and get the quad runner, and drive it back and get the ladder step ladder, loll nice easy peasy, think smarter and get Er done , thanks y’all BigAl California.
Doesn't the salt stay in the soil and make it un farmable? Next time un-suit the rain coat, leave the ladder and rain suit, walk back to the atv, ride the atv to get the ladder and rain suit.
Turnip and radish seed...I thought it would be more of a regenerative cocktail? At time of harvest, will the remaining row receive a similiar treatment? Yeah, hot and/or humid day + rainsuit = hot and /or humid day + no rainsuit. Use to get just as wet in the bush during a rain event inside a rainsuit as you would get walking the bush without the rainsuit.🌧😎
I don’t know if Laura will see this but I have a question. In thinking about the design of the pivots, wouldn’t it be beneficial to have a walk way on top or in the middle that would allow for easier access when needing to clean the nozzles instead of coming from below? Also, what about a ball valve on each of nozzles that would allow you to stop the flow of water to attach/detach the heads.
The filters would clog up in no time and then you’d have another added expense. Much easier to just clean them when they need it. If your water isn’t terribly hard they don’t clog up that much.
Leave ladder there walk to 4 wheeler and come back on 4 wheeler to pick it up/ Undo all the nozzles let all the water drain out then go back and replace all the nozzles . Don't you drain whole pivot for winter? Or put antifreeze of some type in it ?
@@justindose6950 self draining from where to where ? Seems like it would have to be in each section or sprinkler head since it doesn't look easy to keep whole system "downhill on uneven ground. ? check valve that closes with pressure and opens with no pressure?
Can you please explain the reasoning to using salt water to defoliate the corn? Is it to speed up the drying process for early picking for feed? I’m from SE Minnesota and never seen it done around here!

Thanks for the video. Your always pretty, even when being defoliated. Spraying with salt, doesn't that harm the soil in the long run? By accumulating salt the salinity increases and that can't be good.
I would imagine it would be very expensive to add shut offs to each nozzle. Considering how many pivots they maintain. Plus would be another part that would eventually require maintenance/replacement.
@@newholland68 You are right for the nozzle with waterstop but a plastic valve just above the nozzle is not that expensive, you can close the hose and when you need water to clean the nozzle you can open it for a second. you should have driven to where you wanted to start and dropped the ladder off there , then driven back to where you would reach the end point of the pivot to drop off the four wheeler , then walk back to your starting point . That way you wouldn't have to drag anything anywhere when you were done and you would end up right where the four wheeler was parked . Or you could have just left the ladder where you ended , then walked to the four wheeler and drove it back to pick up the ladder .
What are they growing on Laura's Farm? Do you also produce corn seeds? Did I get that right, they kill the corn with salt water? Or with pesticides? Presumably they kill the corn so that they can harvest it better than corn seeds? It would be nice if someone could explain that 🙂

not near enough to matter
.0006 ppm salt won't affect a thing. Like pissing in a pond.
Salinity in the soil usually only builds up from flood irrigation.
