We need Gus Johnson calling NFL games again. I miss him so much.
Fox should make him their TNF guy or let Buck exclusively focus on TNF and get Johnson in on Sunday telecasts.
Rush Vogel if Gus returns, he should be the TNF broadcaster

What I learned from this video: Gus Johnson called a ton of AFC South games
He got demoted in 2006 when James Brown returned to CBS from Fox. He replaced Greg Gumbel as studio host and Gumbel went back to the booth. CBS had to reshuffle their lineup of announcers and Johnson got stuck calling somewhat unappealing games.

@@bkr1895 his main assignment was never the NFL I think. It was college basketball. He had many historical games in the march madness. His career began there in 1996 with a historical upset of Princeton over the at time defending National Champions UCLA in the first round
CBS has specialized in AFC games for a long time
Gus and Romo.....the level of enthusiasm in that booth would make the universe explode
I wish Romo was not with Nantz. I think it would be awesone if NBC pursued him, made him the heir apparent to Cris Collinsworth, and once Al Michaels is done (he is in his 70s) pair him with Mike Tirico. That would be awesome.

I am not really sure having Gus there would have been that necessary. Joe Buck's call was great and what made it great was the minimalist style he used. You just had to watch the play, hear the bare minimum, and react how you would (as a Vikings fan, I loudly rejoiced). Someone screaming in the booth is unnecessary in my mind. Tue play speaks for itself.

@@thesupremebean9578 honestly probably not. I think Gus fits in better with NCAA with his style. I think the enthusiasm is probably more welcomed in college than NFL. If you look at all the other NFL announcers, they seem to be more professional but usually not extremely enthusiastic.

My big sister worked with Gus when he was the weekend sports anchor at Fox 5 in DC over 20 years ago. Gus is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Gus Johnson's call of Brandon Stokley's TD was one of my first football memories! Not to mention his great call of Mike Thomas' catch. Good memories. And Brett Kiesel's touchdown is one of my favorite Steelers moments ever.

We saw one of the best runs of all time by Derek Henry , ruined by buck just acting like it was a 7 yard run. The dude was throwing everyone and their mother all over the field and buck just absolutely caused me then fall asleep Midway through the run
Joe Buck is great at what he does. Everyone who makes the generic claim that he is unexciting is living in 2007 still.
I don't recall Buck ruining the finish in the Saints @ Vikings 2017 Divisional game. Or Super Bowl LI.

As a kid that grew up hearing most of these quotes, I think he’s a big reason I love football so much. Something unexplainable in the magic you feel watching someone perform such an athletic feat like these plays. Nice to have a commentator who has that enthusiasm and wonder of a child
