  • A lot of people have been asking me where to find my old footage, since this channel is only a couple of years old. Well, instead of pointing people over there, I thought I'd re-edit some of my favorite clips together and put them right here.
    I haven't filmed in any kind of serious way since about 2008, so there's not a ton of current stuff in there, but I'm sure you'll see some stuff you've never seen before.
    After a while, filming just stopped being fun. I would mess around and do basic stuff on video, but I stopped pushing myself so much for footage. And just skating around doing whatever I wanted was a lot more satisfying. But here's some footage from the old days! I hope you enjoy it.

    Dude, from how thoughtful and well-researched as your Ask Rad Rat videos are, it's easy to forget that you've got some serious skills on the board, too! Best skateboarding channel on UA-cam - definitely the only one that leaves me feeling smarter, rather than stupider after watching one of their videos

    hey rad rat, nice skating, had me thinking, how bout a "viewer clip" of the week or something along those.lines...everyone sends you footage and throw up a vid of the good stuff, could be a cool way to build your community getting everyone talking and such..just an idea. keep skating man I loved it. the ONLY thing I'd suggest is a little more speed makes videos look a tad better, I know this because im notoriously slow sometimes myself, I ain't hating, just spreading, loved the clips..def some tricks in there I've never done...but you gave me a new task to try

    • @herrreinsch
      @herrreinsch 6 років тому +11

      for me sometimes I really love watching people go a bit slower, It gives the video a different vibe then going with full speed. Idk, maybe It's because I love skating slow myself. :P

    • @Throawei
      @Throawei 4 роки тому +1

      Honestly unless you're a crazy little kid, speed is one of the last barriers to being good. I lived in MI, there just weren't tons of awesome skaters even back in the day. If they existed they were very insular and cliquey and had a very specific high school-esque attitude about what it was supposed to look like. You have to see your friends go fast irl to go faster yourself most of the time. Extreme progression is rarely accomplished all alone. In my group, there were definitely people who thought they were better than others. If they saw one of the peers they considered as good, close to as good, or better they would push themselves to go bigger and harder. It's an ego thing.

    • @QuartzIsAnOxide
      @QuartzIsAnOxide 4 роки тому +1

      I think it's harder to maintain speed with the amount of freestyle he does. Caspers and railstands are stationary, and no complys are slower than regular tricks. I really like that actually. It's a different vibe from all the street video parts where people skate very aggressively

  • @Swoopert
    @Swoopert 6 років тому +82

    The thing that I love about your skating is that you are not trying to impress anybody. You are mostly skating alone at your house. You are wearing clothing that looks comfortable and isn't necessarily fashionable. You have your own style of skating and don't care that your trick selections are old school.

You can tell that he isn't very athletic and the stuff that he has learned came from years of trying over and over and over again. Most guys who aren't very coordinated just quit. But he loves skating, so he has stuck with it.

      Nakamurahik I used to skate every day when I was in middle and high school. I had fear but I did 5 foot drops and stair sets. I would just slowly ease into the scary thing I was going to do. I always feared axle stalls on quarter pipes and never tried to do them back then. Now 5 years later and a BS of CS I tried picking up skating again. Technique is key in skateboarding and once I trusted instinct to learn how to pivot on a quarter pipe, I used that pivot to land my trucks on the coping of the quarter pipe. I did it second try, not succeeding at first due to disbelief that I could do it. Now instead of rock to fakie I do axel stalls on QPs due to landing them normal stance instead of switch.

      Learning to fall/bail is key, that and breathing control. It's beyond common for people to hold their breath in stressful situations (whether they realise it's stressful or not) and that increases anxiety which then causes more mistakes.. I second guess myself before doing basically anything and I've been skating for 20 odd years. Being clear of mind

Have you ever had a moment where you do a fliptrick and accidentally land primo and just let it rock, and just get yourself out? Or is accidental primo always bad and it never feels the same as intentional landing in primo.
