  • This is the first Blackmagic ursa broadcast footage test I've done, with the Blackmagic Design URSA Broadcast using the Canon YJ20X8.5B4 KRS B4 Lens. The lens stands up quite well considering it's a Standard Definition lens on a 4K camera, but there is noticeable softening around the edges in some shots and I have corrected chromatic aberration in Resolve.

Great video, I watched this a few years back. Do you know if this SD lense would work on the newer Ursa Broadcast G2?

Thank you. I don't have the latest model, but the G2 will work with B4 lenses, however, the G2 is a 6K camera so this may give a little more leeway in post for zooming past the edges of the frame in post production, but it will depend on the lens itself. I have since upgraded my URSA Broadcast lens to use the Fujinon LA16X8BRM which is way sharper.

@@madpanic Thank you very much for the reply. I think my lens is the same as yours, mine is the YJ20x8.5B4 KRS SX12. I was hoping to utilize it on the G2, I've had the lens for a year, very clean, but not used it as I didn't know if it would work on the G2?

Hi from Germany. You found some very nice places and objects that often hide the lens´ CA and edge softness (simply cant use that setup for wide shots). You should really redo the test with a decent HD lens - SD lenses have a different sensor approach and simply cant project RGB to a single sensor (HD lenses cant neither, but have smaller tolerances). Its a shame Blackmagic doesnt feature electronice CA compensations (sony ALAC or Panasonic CAC), since all budget HD broadcast lenses are fitted with ALAC chips and are developed to be corrected by an electronic CA compensation. Anyway, thanks for that test!

Hi, this was literarily my first outing with the BlackMagic URSA broadcast and the lens I had initially purchased was a cheap SD B4 lens for £300. The purpose of the test was not to test the lens but more a reaction to using the camera. I was waiting for a 4K lens at the time!
