I get my fonts from Cricut Design Space. I find that when making a text pattern shirt, fonts that come in all capital letters work very well so you can have even lines in the pattern.
No, they are different heights based on the font and spaces that the words needed to fit into. Start with your title and four corners and then start making boxes with your words. The size of the words will depend on the font you choose and the length of the word.
