Not sure why you even watch these when you obviously don't like most of the people on them! First it was Richard you always complained about, now it's Charles and Fanny!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. They had all lost their "joie de vivre" and though they did go through the motions and there were some peeks at the way things used to be, they overall seemed sad. For me, most noticeable in Fannie Flagg and Gene Rayburn.
I think this episode in particular showed that there was still life in old Match Game, even post-Richard Dawson. This was hilarious and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Doesn't get much better than that!
Another part of the problem is that they edited out the banter while writing their answers. Edit out Brett as much as you want, but the rest of them were funny to one extent or other.
I don’t share this opinion. I think the ensemble is happier and there is a sense of lightness that wasn’t present pre-1286. I’m not a Dawson hater like some others here, but I think they were walking on eggshells around him (especially as he became more and more of a grump in recent years) and his departure has been a relief.

the show really lost something by 78. New format, no Richard, and new look. Less funny. Maybe people weren't drinking as much.
