Man that dude knows his stuff about snow and how it falls!! I never realized you could see the layers of snow like when you dig down into soil, that’s cool, I have never seen enough snow to try it haha. Some nice tips I’ll have to save and rewatch!!
Yup. This was new to me at the time, but now it’s very easy to understand looking at the snowpack. My avalanche class did wonders. Another good resource is Know Before You Go. www.kbyg.org/
Glad I found your channel. Also USMC vet here, and snowboarding(or outdoor sports in general) was a huge help to reset the mind and soul. That’s awesome what you did for the marines of 2/10. The world needs more folks like you. Also- I am finally getting a set this season. 🤟🏼
I used to ride at Liberty on the night club card haha: from MD. I came out here in 2004 and never looked back after having 700 inches in that first year. I too started splitting in 2020 and am stoked! Keep riding and keep safe. Great vid
Dude! The night club card was my jam!! My buddies and I would come up Wednesday nights usually. Got the card through school and then the local skate shop Rascals would put together a group after our school stopped doing it. So sick! We should shred some time! 🤙
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 - The Universe is listening to the Positivity you’re putting out there, Bro! Super stoked for you! Looking at Hovercraft Split. Also looking at the bindings you picked up. Sick!!! ✌🏿
just found your channel a couple days ago man, i’ve been binging al your videos to get me through the summer until next season, stoked to see you shred out this coming season
Just found your channel and i am pretty stoked. I got the Jones Explorer Split 2019 with the Karakoram Prime R Bindings wich I love! Little tip: It is a lot easier to put on your skins at home before heading out in the mountains. Especially when there is not such a great weather like in your video. Saves time and effort. Greetings from Austria
NIce! Ari has the same board. You can see it in my June Pow video. You should check it out. Good tip about the skins. I did that once but found that the glue was sticking to my board a little more when I did that. Stoked that you're in Austria!! Would love to come shred there some day.
Funny man, I happened upon a bunch of your videos today as I'm getting psyched for my trip to Powder Mountain for my Very Merry Unbirthday (Leap Year). I picked Skiing back up at Liberty and Round top and taught myself to board out there after the mountain was turned to Moguls in 2015. Now I'm addicted! Heading to Jay Peak, Bolton Valley, and Cannon in VT/NH in January, before Los Alamos and Sandia Peak in NM mid Feb, and Powder and Beaver UT the end of Feb. If you're down to ride Fri or Monday the end of Feb it would be cool to ride with someone who knows the spots. If nothing else just cool to randomly find someone who's out there from here.
@@BoredProgression I can't find you on Instagram. Installed it recently and don't know shite. Heading thst way Thursday for Friday and Mondays at Pow Mow. Heading up to Beaver Sat and Sun
@@BoredProgression I hit all the epic and ikon this season and Utah had to be are favorite overall. Snowbird was epic we even skied deer valley and Alta to knock those off the list. Love the channel those. maybe next season we could collab.
Nice dude, looks like a great day out. I had the opportunity to hike a hill a few weeks ago, it was hella tiring but fun to get a few turns in. Dope video and have fun on the new board.
I just bought my first split setup - a used Charlie slasher DIYed into a splitboard, also with Union expeditions, and I can't wait to try them out. I'm glad to see you like them for the same reasons I wanted them. Taking an avy class here in a couple weeks, so it was cool to see how the pit is analyzed. Maybe I'll see you out there somewhere soon!
Nice! That’s an awesome board. Never ridden one but it’s a classic. I’m taking my AIRE 1 in January. We all need to get more education. Good on you! Hope to see you out there! 🤙
@@BoredProgression I hope so! It's flat to rocker, and I've always been a positive camber guy, but I think it will be a good shape for skinning and riding powder.
@@BoredProgression any website for avy classes nationwide? I guess I can call some local ski resorts and ask. I'm in eastern idaho. Targhee is the closest resort.
I bought my split setup ahead of the season in Australia, in the hope that if the resorts were closed I could still get some turns in - unfortunately lockdown put a stop to that (on the plus side, my state is hitting 40+ days with no Covid-19 outside of quarantine). I grabbed a Salomon Sick Stick Split, partly because it was a great price, but also because the skins were included. I'm building out the rest of my setup - I got some second hand Karakorum bindings from a mate which was sweet. In the video it looked like your touring partner had a Pieps beacon? If so, hopefully he's aware of the issues people have been having with the switch on the beacon not locking after a while and releasing too easily.
Glad to hear you’re covid numbers are going down! Ours her in the states are going up every day! Hopefully the vaccine rolls out quick and we can turn it around. Yes, Evan is aware of the peeps problem. Thank you! Hope you can get splitboarding or snowboarding soon! Take an Avy course if you haven’t yet!
@@BoredProgression It wasn't easy - we had a significant and extended lockdown, but it's nice being able to gather with family for Christmas in relative confidence that it's all OK. I'm looking to take a course next year - I've also been listening to the Dark Starts (I really want to find some good videos on longer / touring splitboarding trips), but my first trip on the split is going to be to a mellow closed resort with my 5 year old and his board, since I can carry everything else and he can bootpack up :D
@@BoredProgression I was just a busboy in the alpine cafe. That whole place made its money off of employing dumbass highschool kids like me for dirt cheap. Surprised it still hasn't burned to the ground yet
Thanks mate. I'm 150lbs and 5'7. I got a 157 but wish they made a 154 or 155. So maybe a 157 would be good for you. Also look up the waist width for each board and compare it with your boot size so you don't get heel/toe drag.
🤣 Biking 🚴♂️ 15 miles uphill with 5,000 ft of elevation gain, I’d be lucky if I had enough energy to even put my boots on, let alone do a splitboard tour.
I hope you enjoy the board Dan and can't wait to see all the videos to follow. Semper Fidelis!!!
LOVE it! Thanks again bro! Hoorah!

so dope I love Utah. The backcountry riding looks amazing cant wait to spend some time riding out there again. I hiked Solitude and it was incredible.

Aww man I’d love to live around there. Looks so epic 👍🏻
It’s not terrible.
I rode Liberty also this season and all the other hills in PA. lol I enjoyed those hills every place has something to offer.
Right on! Most of my life those were all I had. And had to drive 1-3 hours to get to them too.
REALLY cool to see the avalanche measurement and av course stuff. really neat. Thanks Dan!
Glad to hear! I'll definitely cover more avy safety stuff in the future. It could save a life. 👍

A cool video idea would be split board/skins vs. snowshoes. I've been debating what type of setup to get.
I like it! I haven’t tried snowshoes yet either but was considering getting Verts.
Your split board is amazing

Thank you! It’s a dream to ride there one day! 🏂🏔
Thanks for the videos Dan. What size is your splitboard? Is it true to go a tad longer on your splitboard compared to a resort board?
Mine is a 157 and my resort freeride board is a 154 so yes I’d say it’s ok to go up 3 mm but no bigger than that. If I could, I’d do 1-2 bigger.
So sick dude.
🤙 for real!
Great Vid! Looking at splitboards, what size did you get? I'm 5'8" 170LBS Thinking 160ish

so as of 2/4/2021 do you have to pay to go to snowbird? or do you just show up, hike up the mountain, and snowboard down?
You have to pay and use the lifts or tram. Uphill travel is not allowed at Snowbird right now.
