- Can I Fix a WATER DAMAGED Nintendo Switch??
I paid a total of £50.00 ($70.00) for this broken Nintendo Switch on Ebay. This is the first time I've attempted to fix a broken Nintendo Switch, and hopefully not the last!
I have hardly any experience when it comes to electronic repairs, and this is my most expensive single purchase so far to try and fix. Hopefully we can!

Shoutout to My Mate Mince 😅
He could as well be
🤣🤣 I like it
@@Mymatevince 😅😅😅😅😅😅 You sir are a legend 😁
Good vid, good troubleshooting steps. Can't wait to see what happens!
Switch is my main console!!! Glad to see this one uploaded, look forward to you hopefully getting it working!
My guuuuuy! Thanks man, hopefully fingers crossed!
From what I've seen in other videos the M92 chip can go bad without shorting the caps around it so keep that in mind :P Interesting video nonetheless, can't wait to see part 2!
Thanks Hector! Hope all is well :)
My Mate Mince.. I laughed so hard..🤣 I got a some spoilers on sunday's live stream but it was really interesting.
My charger and stuff arrived today, so I'm hoping to diagnose this a little bit more soon! 😁
@@JoeyDoesTech Oh yes! I'm looking forward to it!
Check the red and black connectors on the battery for voltage, if there’s to no voltage or to little voltage the switch won’t boot or charge. You can use your multimeter and put it in amps or current mode and connect from that 5 volts connector you had used to test and connect to red on the battery to get a bit of voltage in the battery to get it going, but only connect it for about 3 to 5 seconds, at a time to get the voltage up to charge.
Thanks Kenneth. Will try this on the stream tomorrow :)
Great video, really enjoyed it👍
Thanks Micro :)
I know My Mate Mince; he makes an awesome lasagna. 😝 Bless you Joey - you're more than a good sport to keep in the outtake. 🍻
Good effort; clearly been watching a few Tubers as well as picking up what you've learnt since the start of the whole Covid thing. 🤘😎
Sorry I missed the livestream.
No worries Toxo! Thanks for taking the time to watch this video as always :) I'm determined to get it working!
Can't beat a bit of My Mate MINCE. Bargain of the century this mate for 50 notes. Even if you can't get it working, like you say, the parts are well worth it. Did you check the voltage on the battery itself? If it's goosed then it'll be really low or non existent. I did a switch lite that was water damaged and after cleaning it all up, it did end up with a faulty battery too. A replacement battery sorted it. Hope you get as lucky with this one. Good luck 👍
Yeah exactly Steve! We'll see I guess 😁 Was fun getting inside it though and taking it apart/reassembling. Only thing is any others I've found are SO much more expensive even faulty, minimum £120.
@@JoeyDoesTech I've been looking for one for months, and the cheapest I've seen is 80 and I just missed out. You did well! 👍
I read somewhere that the switch won’t turn on without the battery so it needs the battery and in this case it’s completely drained or maybe the water damage completely ruined it so just try replacing the battery and you should be fine :)
Oeh first switch repair! Very exiting! I'm not yet at the switch repair lvl :D
I'm sure you will be shortly my friend! According to this video neither am I :)
@@JoeyDoesTech yeah but one day we will get there! :)
Mine fell in water, I replaced battery and fan, when I try and turn on the fan spins loudly and the screen doesn't light up. HELP
i wish you can get that switch working mate... was a very good try for a first time( mind that i havent done it myself before) you seem to have studied it quite good! well done! and yes it would be best to buy a nitendo charger as switch is nkown to have brick issues when plugged to some othe third party chargers, and i accidentelly plugged my switch lite to my samsung type c to type c charger and it did not charge and fortunetelly was fine after couse i had i cardiac episode for a moment :) haha
Haha I think getting a Nintendo Switch official charger is the best bet! I don't want to risk a cheap knock off or even a USB-C charger from like a Samsung etc. Hopefully we can get it working hey Renata!
@@JoeyDoesTech ❤
50??? niceeee...Keep the good work
Thanks Froz :)
If you think it’s the battery, check the voltage on the battery itself. If it’s a lot below the rated 3.7 volts it probably has been deep discharged and won’t take a charge.
There are caps on the other side of the board that relate to the chip you’re testing as well.
There’s a fuse that may be stopping those 5 volts going to the rest of the board.
You won’t see more than 5 volts with the battery disconnected because it only ramps up to higher voltage and current when the battery actually absorbs the power.
I hope the eBay seller can sleep well at night knowing he was dishonest with you about the condition of the Switch. He almost certainly knows it was water damaged if he’s had it open and probably knows it is going to be hard or impossible to fix.
I officially left my first 4 star review on Ebay for him! Stated it was water damaged and the description wasn't accurate.
I've got a follow up video coming Saturday for this Nintendo Switch :)
Looking forward to the follow up. You’re very generous with your feedback. I’ve left neutral or negative for less. When someone sells for a value above the item’s condition while withholding the information, I think they deserve some negative feedback. If they did that in real life they’d be dealing with more consequences from the law than a bad rating.
@@sdjmchattie Yeah I think I need to get a bit more stern with some of the sellers, or they will just keep doing it to other innocent buyers.
everyrhing can be fixed even if he needs to change some parts of the switch it can work.
buy a new battery first and if it powers on then you know its the m92 chip at fault the chip can read no shorts and still be faulty also check the fuse for continuity just above the charge port that might be blown good video i hope you fix it
Thanks Jon :) Will give these tips a try!
The charger you were using should say on it what the voltage output is. Did it say 5 volts? Maybe try your desktop power supply.
Yeah 5 volts Taylor :)
Dang! I hate sellers that are dishonest like that! I also had such experience when I bought the lot of 4 dsi xl, where the console where not as described and one did have liquid damage too! Good luck with this one btw
Edit: at 8:05 that looks like milk wich is quite gross, maybe the kid was playing/watching a video on this during breakfast and accidentally dropped and spilled his mug of milk (that's guessing)
To be honest the milk situation makes sense Kris! Yeah hopefully we can get it fixed hey? :)
@@JoeyDoesTech yeah, also based on personal experience! My cousin once at a birthday, pulled out his r4 from his ds and laid it on the table and accidentally spilled coke on it! 13 years later last summer she gave that to me to see if I could fix it and I was able to!
Check out Jason’s electronic repairs aswell bud great with the switches the one chip is all to do with the charging of the console so that may have been damaged good luck
Thanks Andy, yeah I've seen a few of his videos already, the guy is super talented when it comes to repairs :)
You need to get yourself a usb ammeter, it will give you a better idea what's going on with the switch, and if the battery is trying to charge.
This is exactly what I needed Jonny! I'll have a shop around :) Any you can recommend?
@@JoeyDoesTech not really I just use a cheap one I bought from eBay. Seems to do the job.
Could be a plan to add any further live stream links as the pinned comment (fix or no fix!) :)
Love this btw. Should have a look through these types of videos and add the corresponding stream to the description and top comment. Thankyou for the feedback :)
My switch lite has been dropped in water. It has been 2 days and still no improvements when I press the home bottom I can hear the nintendo on but my screen is still black! Help please!!!
Our got run under the tap..wont turn on After two weeks left to dry. Have you repaired yours?
And? Did you fix it?
My switch got put in a washing machine last December do you think It can be fixed
That’s a long time ago! When did it stop working?
@@JoeyDoesTech the same day it was put in the washing machine 😅
@@ianflcl haha probs not. You’d be best taking it to a professional :)
So my switch has been water locked for almost a year could it's still be fix
It has potential! A year is quite a long time for water to do quite a bit of damage though.
@@JoeyDoesTech alright but my question is that how could it be fix
Alright, so my switch got spilled in pop, but it still turns on and I dried it off. It doesn't look like it got any liquid inside it, just the screen, the back, and the henges, which I dried immediately.
BTW it wasn't plugged in
You just have to be careful in case it seeps inside. Corrosion won't break something straight away, it may be days, weeks or months!
@@JoeyDoesTech ok
IPA did not fix that? Impossible!
I know! It never let's me down :(
@@JoeyDoesTech Even tho it never runs around and deserts you, never makes you cry, nevers says goodbye or tells a lie... This time it indeed let you down [*]
I sent my switch to Nintendo cause it wouldn't charge and they said there was liquid damage and wanted 100 bucks for the repair mind you I had had it for less than 2 weeks when this happened I didn't have the money right then so they sent it back that was a few months ago and last week I plugged it in and let it sit and I will be damned it had charged to like 15% and I turned it on and everything worked fine zero issues but when I plugged it back in it started not charging again.confusing as shit so I was hoping you might have some idea
Sorry Jake it sounds like there could be a few issues wrong with it. Did you not have it under warranty with Nintendo if you only had it for two weeks? You're best off looking locally at a repair shop to try and fix :)
@@JoeyDoesTech they claimed that it was liquid damage and as such outside of the warranty and the protection plan I bought from game stop on top of that game stop said they couldnt find my account that the employee must have made a mistake and canceled it by accident so even though I had the receipt there was nothing they could do and that was it he just kept repeating himself I never wanted to choke someone so bad
@@jake-gd8rb This REALLY sucks. Can completely see why you'd be so angry... Sorry man :(
Do a switch lite too ❤️😍
Eventually I'm down for it 😁😁
@@JoeyDoesTech yeey looking forward it ❤️❤️ If I ever get my switch lite damage (hope that doesn't happen) I can just watch you and follow your steps
