  • Françoise Hardy, a star of French chanson since the 1960s, died aged 80, her son Thomas Dutronc announced on Tuesday, June 11. "Maman is gone," Dutronc wrote in a post on Instagram. Hardy had battled cancer for years.
    Born in Paris on January 17, 1944, Hardy first came to public attention in 1962, when she performed her song "Tous les garçons et les filles" during a musical interlude broadcast during the results of the referendum on the election of the French president by universal suffrage.
