I Couldn't Play Jazz Until I Understood THIS: Bruce Forman's 3-Note Groupings | Jazz Guitar Lesson
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2024
- Here is an important concept that Bruce Forman taught me that helped me to fully grasp jazz phrasing. By filling in the gaps in our scales, and weaving in and out of those chromatic notes, we open up the sounds of bebop pioneers like Charlie Christian and Dizzy Gillespie. Hope this has as big an impact on you as it did for me!

Thanks for posting. At 81 years old, I’m always interested in ideas. I enjoyed your session.
Thanks George!
Thanks man! Bruce is a beast. I listened to him many years. Why don't you try to get him on video call.
I've been thinking about starting a sort of interview series on this channel. Bruce is definitely one of the first guests I was planning on approaching!
Expertly explained as always Mike thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interpreted Summary: Chord tones embellished by chromatic passing tones all guided by a sense of melody and a good ear.
That's a great way to put it!
Wow, well I hope at some point in my remaining life learning 🎸 I learn enough that this makes sense and is useful to me. I do love chromatic runs though! Nice job playing and clear thorough explaining, just over my head. 😂
If you’re interested, we could do a lesson and we could go over this step by step to break it down further for you!
Cool, that makes sense to me. Subscribed!
Thanks!
Really nice tutorial. Chromaticism is such a useful tool. I've been working through Mickey Baker books along with Chord Chemistry. The music "industry" over the years since the 70's has gone when i started playing ,through regressive 2 chords and the troof ,,punk to acid jazz and "fusion" back to blues roots jazz, country trends. But the most important thing i picked up from the Baker & Greene books was they both emphasised "Structured" Systematic practise regime. I've had the books for 20 years and i'm only now starting to understand them. Dont know if i'm actually achieving a thing BUT at my age thats not the point. I'm trying to work out why i have a jar of peanut butter in my pocket?...LMAO
As always Mike just the best content! Best to you, thanks so much for these videos! 👍🎸
Thanks Doug!
Awesome stuff Mike! Bruce is a legend
Thanks man! Bruce is the best! I can’t even begin to state how much I got from him in my time with him. I learned a lot more from him than just guitar playing.
Many thanks for this fantastic lesson!
My pleasure!
I like your guitar, the colours are pretty mad
Excellent.
Thanks!
More bebop stuff🎉
More bebop is coming!
Alright now
It’s all chromatic so what’s new with that ? 😂
