In defense of the Black Templars, the Codex allows a chapter to have way more than 1000 marines if the chapter is in a crusade, the Black Templars saw this and decided that they will be always in a crusade, so they CAN read, at least enough to find a legal loophole
It gets even more tricky than that as they send what they deem as necessary on each and every crusade they choose to embark on. Anywhere from 50 to 1000 marines but mostly around the hundreds. These crusades are self sustaining due to all the Black Templar keeps they set up everywhere. Meaning a crusade could leave with 150 marines and return with 300 if they even return at all. The Black Templars also don't utilise the codex really at all. In their mind, there is no reason to read/follow it. Because they follow their own unique combat doctrine taught to them by their first High Marshal Sigismund. The Imperial fists are also on a eternal crusade and are considered fleet based despite having a number of planets including earth to call home but, are still codex compliant. There is no real restriction on neophytes, and the 10th company can have as any as they can get even over the standard 100 Whether there's crusade or no crusade the restriction was only on full initiates. But since the return of Guilleman, he actually rescinded that restriction on only 1000 marines per chapter. Due in part, to the influx of Primaris marines, because some chapters would have doubled their strength overnight, including is own chapter so he had to make some changes.

Wouldn't be the first time something like this happens, remember when baal got invaded by nids? A khorne daemon that had beef with the blood angels started killing the nids because he didn't want them to get the killing blow on his rivals.
*confused zealotry* The funny thing is the whole Primaris thing was quite practically done. Guilliman expected a zealotous lunatic and Helbrecht expected a scheming tyrant. Both were pleasantly surprised and found they had common cause. Helbrecht piously accepted the Primaris tech since it came from a Divine son of the Emperor, which Guilliman was rankled by but accepted since he really needs their forces. So now Helbrecht has sent out a bunch of new Crusades to help with the aftermath of the Sigitrix Maledictum and has sent a bunch of new Primaris boys to help. Which can't fit inside their own signature tank. No, I will not let this go.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that the Black Templars just never have more than chapter strength in one place, so the inquisition can't "prove" they are in violation of the codex.
I think chapters on crusades get exceptions to chapter strength limits because they’re expected to take heavy losses and need to be able to replenish rapidly. Black Templars are just *always* on crusade.
I don't remember exactly where but I think there is the implication that the inquisition discourages inquisitors from looking at the black templars too closely. They know full well that the black templars have far greater numbers than even a crusading force is allowed but they also know it's better to just let the templars do their thing. And the inquisition very much likes it when the templars do their thing.
No, they are codex compliant because there's 2 exceptions to the chapter strength rule: 1. When you are on a crusade, you are allowed to have more than 1000 marines in order to bolster losses during the crusade. Black Templars have been on several continuous crusades for over 10k years. 2. Support staff and neophytes/scouts do not count towards the number of marines allowed. Therefore, Black Templars are not ignoring the codex. They read it thoroughly enough to point out loopholes and have them bookmarked in case anyone argues with them about it.

Another interesting thing about Swarmlord's final offensive in the Octarius System was that it understood Ork psychology and used it against them. It realized that if Orks have a good fight where they are at they won't move to help other Orks elsewhere, even if it would be strategically advantageous. So it sent out diversionary forces just big enough to keep them occupied and then focused most of its forces on one planet at a time, defeating the Orks who didn't support or coordinate with each other.

@@anotherperson2627 Imma give you a rundown on what is going on and why Da Maw is such a big deal. So there is a particular planet in the Octarius empire. This planet had a name and a history. Both of those are gone. When the nids invaded, instead of being a victory for either side it just became another meat grinder. Why is this so significant? Well because overtime this world has become the world where fighting is the worst in the entire Warzone. This isn't the humans saying that its the worst fighting in the entire warzone, its the orks saying it which means ALOT. How bad could the fighting actually be you might ask. Entire tendrisl of Hive fleet leviathon have redirected themselves to try and consume this one planet. How have the orks been able to repel these attacks? Simple, entire WAAAGHS!!! have been lead to this infamous war world to fight the bugz. The reason why Da Maw is called Da Maw is because every army that anyone sends there, no matter the size, gets killed. The oceans are described as being 'crimson and gore filled' which translates to organs and other body parts just floating in them. On the surface of this planet you can watch mobz of gargants fight swarms of biotitans while underfoot ork boyz go all out against gaunts nonstop. The orks and nids are actively engaging in all out warefare on the open plains of this world. No one is sitting behind fortifications here. The fighting is so bad here that after the Great Rift split the galaxy, when all the other daemonic forces in the warzone returned back to the warp and the orks and nids got back to fighting one another, Khorne forces tore back into reality here because the amount of death and carnage left the walls of reality weak. Now usually this is a pretty impressive thing to do on any normal world, but even more so when you consider that this planet is being invaded by multiple tendrils of nids which means that the Shadow in the Warp is extremly strong which should mean that Daemonic invasion should be all but impossible. It should be noted that the force here is mostly Khorne berzerkers and other Chaos Space marines and that there is a fleet in orbit that is also engaging the enemy fleets but daemons are part of this conflict. Not only that but this is the first case where we see the nids choose to enter a protracted war with Chaos. Usually whenever nids and Chaos fight either the nids win and just accept their loss of biomass or Chaos wins and the nids just move on. They don't try to send more because they know that doing so would just leave the biomass sent corrupted and not usable. Chaos has always been a net loss for the nids to fight. This is not the case with Da Maw, even though Chaos has made a strong military presence on this world the nids are still sending tendrils to this world. This is the first and only fight for the nids were it is a net positive for them to engage the forces of chaose. TL;DR This is one of the most contested worlds in the galaxy and even Khorne has sent a VERY strong miltary force here to fight. Hope this helps!!
Pretty sad that he skipped over the Devastation of Baal. I know in the grand scheme it isn't all that important, but I love the idea of a Bloodthirster, and not just any Bloodthirster but the same one that Sanguinius fought at the Siege of Terra, showing up to save the Blood Angels' home planet and that Bloodthirster was more effective at stopping the 'Nids than the Ultramarines.

That was pretty much what happened when the Beast Snagga pre-orders went live last year. They learned their lesson and implemented a queue system for the Killteam 2.0 starter set pre-orders a few weeks later.
Well they win all sorts of “fights” we dont see, but they kind of face the narrative problem of if they’re strong enough to win one _major_ battle, there’s unlikely to be anything that can stop them steamrolling given they only will get stronger from it. Also y’know, if you’re storytelling it’s more difficult to show a tyrannid win than loss

14:00 One of my favorite bits of humans not knowing anything in 40k is in the Kingsblade book. Several regiments of Guard are sent to reclaim a world that fell to Chaos, and are having a meeting to figure out how to proceed. There are at least a dozen captains and commanders, along with their aids. All are veterans who have fought against hundreds, if not thousands of foes over decades of war. Then the High King of some Knight houses comes in, pulls up a picture of a Word Bearer, and everyone almost panics. No one knew that space marines could go bad, and are either scared shitless of the idea or claiming heresy. The King just says “if you need counseling or faith, wait until after the meeting. They’re real, they will kill us, get over it and help us plan.”
Yes, do an episode on my champion Sigismund and his Angry Marines! They are making great strides to rectify their status as the posterboys of HATRED and scratchy voices, but the fact that I still have at least one legion is kinda cool
From what I can remember The Black Templars have more then 1000 Astartes because they are on crusade. The Space Book says you can have more then a 1000 while on crusade.

I think the Octarius war could be good set up for 10th edition like the 13th black crusade was for 8th. Mainly I think the Octarius war is a great set up to have a return of a Primarch like the Lion

Yoke as in a wood device for a pair of ox to pull a cart because you're as strong as two. Pretty sure the Black Templars are by far the most inclusive when it comes to race, after all as a Fleet Bourne Chapter they may recruit from any world within their reach, meaning they recruit from all human worlds and thus all races. Assuming they aren't Abhuman or straight up Mutants of course.
In the distant future of 40k, no one gives a fuck about skin colour because there's far bigger problems. Like Chaos, or Orkz, or Nids or Necrons, or how many toes you have. The BTs fucking HATE xenos, heretics and mutants. If you're pure human then they don't give a fuck what colour your skin is.
What might happen is Angron shows up and basically says “step aside imperial dogs. I heard there was a fight to be had.” Angron gets a little taste of the “good old days” killing xenos in the great crusade. That kind of thing. Not an alliance, just “there are more and bigger skulls to take over there. Now get out of my way or I’ll take your skull too.” Meanwhile a space marine is sitting in a trench next to a kriegsman, motioning to the mortal “not yet, Ferb.”

I half expect this to wrap up with primaris marines showing up to stomp the tyranids. It's all nids seem to exist for is to be a spring board for other factions.
That's because normally nothing interesting happens when the Tyranids win. They eat everything, leave a barren wasteland and move on. Whoop dee doo. It's hard to write a compelling story from the hive-mind's point of view. The only interesting victory I can think of is whatever Tiamet is up to since they're doing something different.

It depends on the colour of the stud. Golden studs are 100 years each if I am correct. Silver mean 50, I believe? I could be wrong about the colours but that's what I remember hearing.

Imperial fists as a big old red button, called the "last wall", Which basically makes all the sucessors of the imperial fists come back to base and follow the orders of the chapter master of the imperial fist. Recently, the exorcists (space marine that lets demon possessed them to better fight chaos) as been confirmed to be successor of the imperial fists. Meaning...you got your edgy anti xenos and anti chaos angry bois that would potentially have to work with demon bois... funniest shit i ever saw

Apparently Emperor's Children will be getting a codex but it will be much further away than World Eaters and the other remaining/new factions so they are going in the main codex for now. I would love to see more special characters for CSM because a: some Legions don't have any and b: when Ultramarines alone have more characters than your entire faction there's a problem.

Perhaps say that the Imperium had their communications cut after the massive tyranid attack, but the Kin, United as the League of Votann, have recently finished eliminating the last tyranids and gene-stealers from their home worlds in the core and are now looking to use their freshly rebuilt military-industrial might for vengeance against not just the bugs, but their ancient enemies the orks too! Give them the giant tunnel-bore pods and rocket drills to make planet fall with, some old DAoT mining technologies reused as high yield weapons that can pierce large bio forms, etc. I want to see mining lasers! Demolition charges! Power-picks! Rock-crushers! Make the gene-stealer mining trucks look like toys!

The funny thing is the whole Primaris thing was quite practically done. Guilliman expected a zealotous lunatic and Helbrecht expected a scheming tyrant. Both were pleasantly surprised and found they had common cause. Helbrecht piously accepted the Primaris tech since it came from a Divine son of the Emperor, which Guilliman was rankled by but accepted since he really needs their forces.
So now Helbrecht has sent out a bunch of new Crusades to help with the aftermath of the Sigitrix Maledictum and has sent a bunch of new Primaris boys to help.
Which can't fit inside their own signature tank. No, I will not let this go.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that the Black Templars just never have more than chapter strength in one place, so the inquisition can't "prove" they are in violation of the codex.
Tbh i don’t think the black templars care about the inquisition, they just have their chapter everywhere at once in different crusades
I think chapters on crusades get exceptions to chapter strength limits because they’re expected to take heavy losses and need to be able to replenish rapidly. Black Templars are just *always* on crusade.
I don't remember exactly where but I think there is the implication that the inquisition discourages inquisitors from looking at the black templars too closely. They know full well that the black templars have far greater numbers than even a crusading force is allowed but they also know it's better to just let the templars do their thing. And the inquisition very much likes it when the templars do their thing.
No, they are codex compliant because there's 2 exceptions to the chapter strength rule:
1. When you are on a crusade, you are allowed to have more than 1000 marines in order to bolster losses during the crusade. Black Templars have been on several continuous crusades for over 10k years.
2. Support staff and neophytes/scouts do not count towards the number of marines allowed.
Therefore, Black Templars are not ignoring the codex. They read it thoroughly enough to point out loopholes and have them bookmarked in case anyone argues with them about it.

Another interesting thing about Swarmlord's final offensive in the Octarius System was that it understood Ork psychology and used it against them. It realized that if Orks have a good fight where they are at they won't move to help other Orks elsewhere, even if it would be strategically advantageous. So it sent out diversionary forces just big enough to keep them occupied and then focused most of its forces on one planet at a time, defeating the Orks who didn't support or coordinate with each other.

@@anotherperson2627 Imma give you a rundown on what is going on and why Da Maw is such a big deal.
So there is a particular planet in the Octarius empire. This planet had a name and a history. Both of those are gone. When the nids invaded, instead of being a victory for either side it just became another meat grinder. Why is this so significant? Well because overtime this world has become the world where fighting is the worst in the entire Warzone. This isn't the humans saying that its the worst fighting in the entire warzone, its the orks saying it which means ALOT.
How bad could the fighting actually be you might ask. Entire tendrisl of Hive fleet leviathon have redirected themselves to try and consume this one planet. How have the orks been able to repel these attacks? Simple, entire WAAAGHS!!! have been lead to this infamous war world to fight the bugz. The reason why Da Maw is called Da Maw is because every army that anyone sends there, no matter the size, gets killed. The oceans are described as being 'crimson and gore filled' which translates to organs and other body parts just floating in them. On the surface of this planet you can watch mobz of gargants fight swarms of biotitans while underfoot ork boyz go all out against gaunts nonstop. The orks and nids are actively engaging in all out warefare on the open plains of this world. No one is sitting behind fortifications here.
The fighting is so bad here that after the Great Rift split the galaxy, when all the other daemonic forces in the warzone returned back to the warp and the orks and nids got back to fighting one another, Khorne forces tore back into reality here because the amount of death and carnage left the walls of reality weak. Now usually this is a pretty impressive thing to do on any normal world, but even more so when you consider that this planet is being invaded by multiple tendrils of nids which means that the Shadow in the Warp is extremly strong which should mean that Daemonic invasion should be all but impossible. It should be noted that the force here is mostly Khorne berzerkers and other Chaos Space marines and that there is a fleet in orbit that is also engaging the enemy fleets but daemons are part of this conflict.
Not only that but this is the first case where we see the nids choose to enter a protracted war with Chaos. Usually whenever nids and Chaos fight either the nids win and just accept their loss of biomass or Chaos wins and the nids just move on. They don't try to send more because they know that doing so would just leave the biomass sent corrupted and not usable. Chaos has always been a net loss for the nids to fight. This is not the case with Da Maw, even though Chaos has made a strong military presence on this world the nids are still sending tendrils to this world. This is the first and only fight for the nids were it is a net positive for them to engage the forces of chaose.
TL;DR This is one of the most contested worlds in the galaxy and even Khorne has sent a VERY strong miltary force here to fight. Hope this helps!!

Well they win all sorts of “fights” we dont see, but they kind of face the narrative problem of if they’re strong enough to win one _major_ battle, there’s unlikely to be anything that can stop them steamrolling given they only will get stronger from it. One of my favorite bits of humans not knowing anything in 40k is in the Kingsblade book. Several regiments of Guard are sent to reclaim a world that fell to Chaos, and are having a meeting to figure out how to proceed. There are at least a dozen captains and commanders, along with their aids. All are veterans who have fought against hundreds, if not thousands of foes over decades of war. Then the High King of some Knight houses comes in, pulls up a picture of a Word Bearer, and everyone almost panics. No one knew that space marines could go bad, and are either scared shitless of the idea or claiming heresy. The King just says “if you need counseling or faith, wait until after the meeting. They’re real, they will kill us, get over it and help us plan.”

I half expect this to wrap up with primaris marines showing up to stomp the tyranids. It's all nids seem to exist for is to be a spring board for other factions.
That's because normally nothing interesting happens when the Tyranids win. They eat everything, leave a barren wasteland and move on. Whoop dee doo. It's hard to write a compelling story from the hive-mind's point of view.
The only interesting victory I can think of is whatever Tiamet is up to since they're doing something different.

Dear Bricky, Shy, DK: Whether or not you see this, this episode has cemented my liking for the Tyranids to start collecting Tyranid figures, even if they are an absolute pain in the butt to paint. Apparently Emperor's Children will be getting a codex but it will be much further away than World Eaters and the other remaining/new factions so they are going in the main codex for now. I would love to see more special characters for CSM because a: some Legions don't have any and b: when Ultramarines alone have more characters than your entire faction there's a problem.

Ah, Yes! I would be so down for that! Perhaps say that the Imperium had their communications cut after the massive tyranid attack, but the Kin, United as the League of Votann, have recently finished eliminating the last tyranids and gene-stealers from their home worlds in the core and are now looking to use their freshly rebuilt military-industrial might for vengeance against not just the bugs, but their ancient enemies the orks too!
Give them the giant tunnel-bore pods and rocket drills to make planet fall with, some old DAoT mining technologies reused as high yield weapons that can pierce large bio forms, etc. I want to see mining lasers! Demolition charges! Power-picks! Rock-crushers! Make the gene-stealer mining trucks look like toys!
