I was asked this last week by a guy I have been crushing on for a while. He said, "I can't imagine you struggling to meet people." I told him, "I don't have a hard time meeting people, and I've been on a few dates recently, but I've yet to meet someone who's really caught my eye -- or at least the one or two who have haven't snapped me up yet." (He called me two days later and asked me out -- it was a FANTASTIC date!) Seems like an OK answer, not braggy but also not putting yourself down.
I was dating a guy last year that kept talking about his ex over and over again and he was telling me about the break up one day I was so sick of him talking about her I decided to ask him why he feels the need to talk about her all the time he was like I swear I'm over her and don't want anything to do with her I was so naive I believed him but I will never fall for that again. I learned some guys date woman to get over passed gf so it's a good advice to ask how long they been single before getting serious with someone.
But you know, maybe it's an oppurtunity to show him, not just how much you love him, but how important he can be to others. It's always a good way to boost the self-esteem of others. Make him feel special and show his ex that the bitch made a mistake of letting him go. Some people think that only women love to be showed off or given compliments, but as a man, it's not just masculine compliments that turns me on because I know in myself that I'm not that masculine and I don't want to pretend to be (very important to accept yourself before getting into a relationship.) In other words, you know, treat him special if you want him to treat you special and I'm 80% sure that if you do treat him special, he will see you more than just a rebound. :)
I've heard the same advice from a lot of guys but you just made me want to follow it for once because of how nicely and straight forward you put it. You seem like such a gentalmen.
When a guy asks you why you're still single you say "Because I want to be". And then you can add "at least for now" with a cute smirk. Anything else is going to show a lack of confidence and sadly that's because a lot of women have a lack of confidence.
i wud say women nowadays not so much as lack confidence but are upfront about their shortcomings....unlike men who think they the king of the jungle even when they are just a nobody :P
Damn it. A guy I'm interested in told me that I am very beautiful and I was like no, I'm just average but thanks! I think I fucked up lol should have just smiled and said thanks. Why didn't I watch this video before!
Baconpancakes Don't worry, it's not THAT important. If a guy really likes you he doesn't really care about your confidence at the beginning. He'll just think it's normal because most girls don't love themselves at least phisically.
OMG! I have broken every rule of what NOT to say to a guy! Geez! No wonder he hasn't communicated with me in almost a month. Go Figure! smh. OH well, I know next time to keep the positivity UP! :) Thanks Matthew!
+michael latham 😂😂😂 🔫 actually guys who ask these kind of questions!! I usually answer in one sentence so as not to look like I'm not over someone from my past!!! Not arguing just giving a point of view!!
Oh Matthew, thanks for being here untill now for us, and you're right, YT comments can have a lot of negativity :'/ and I'm so very glad you protect your energy like you do! I have really boosted my relationships thanks to you, and I'm so grateful :) please never leave us 😭😘
I feel that this advice could apply to anyone. Some of my (girl)friends complain about their weight even though they're at a normal weight.... it's so annoying. Also, true about compliments. It's attractive when anyone (male or female) takes compliments well.
Hands down agree. It actually pisses me off in how accusatory it sounds. It's like they're implying that there's something wrong with you. Even if it's meant in an endearing way it's a question that makes no sense and always stumps me because it's not like being single is something that requires a conscious effort to maintain. You just happen to BE single. And if you meet the right guy or girl you won't be anymore. Simple.
Juliette Kratochvil Totally agree with you...And it almost sounds like the person is implying that it's bad to be single; I get the feeling that this person thinks in an old-fashioned, traditional way, which for me, personally, is a huge turn off...but of course you can't base yourself just on that one question...
Yes, I know! I don't really care if other people are single or not... But apparently there are people who always wonder why I'm single. I think it's just an uncomfortable question to be quite honest...
True, in this video he reminds me of Daniel Radcliffe too. By the way, Matthew, I find that guys (atleast the nice guys I could want) really like it when they see me a little insecure. I think it makes me less intimidating to them and they also think it sweeter than full on confidence at all times...
+seniorqueen08 I haven't found anyone that can really captivates me and connects with me emotionally yet so far, and i don't like to rush into something uncertain. ;)
The same is true for guys who talk about their exes...This guy I was seeing went through every girl he had ever been with, been rejected by, hit on, etc during the course of our first couple dates. Then he did the "not taking compliments well" thing. Anything I complimented, he went on a depression-overloaded story about how it wasn't true. Wanted to shoot myself lol. Needless to say, I don't hang out with him anymore.
This video contains the best advices any girl should hear! Only in a minute or so, this guy succeeded in helping me more than decades of articles from female magazines did! thanks
A question NEVER to ask an unmarried/unattached female... "Why are you still single?" !!!! Is there something WRONG with STILL (or ever) being single?!

You can bring it up again when you catch yourself beating yourself up. And you can always form it as a compliment to him so it doesn't seem too random, like "By the way, I actually am glad you like my hair. You're very considerate and honest to point it out so thank you."
This was actually helpful... I always act modest when I get a compliment. Didn't know that was a turn off... And good lord, you're so gorgeous! WITH A BRITISH ACCENT!!
Hey, I was the same! But things can and do change in ways you never expect, so wait for it. Not literally sit there and count minutes, but you know what I mean, keep doing your thing and everything will work out. You're super YOUNG! Seriously! No room to worry about it.
In my college days a buddy and I were put off the way girls would swoon over a new exchange student from England. They loved his voice. Instead of arguing we booked a flight to Australia. Went there for 2 weeks. All of a sudden we had the accents. Worked great! We had huge grins on our faces on the long flight home!!!! Thought about becoming exchange students but we were seniors. So guys, think about being an exchange student somewhere else.
I love accents and dimples, especially if its a guy than dimples and an accent are absolutely adorable. I have a crush on this guy from my class and he has dimples and an accent, but dont get me wrong! I love his personality! The accent and dimples are just a bonus!
Is this a sarcastic joke? The real title should be "The top four things that make women damned irritating." All he's doing is complaining about the things he hates about women and disguising it as "relationship advice." What if reassurance helps me feel fulfilled in a relationship? Do I have to sacrifice what I need just to convince a guy that he likes me? Why do "relationship experts" always tell women that the first thing they need to do is change. If I have to "change" just to be with a guy, I'd rather die alone thank you. It is better than dying married to some guy who thinks that being myself is unacceptable. This gives such a bad representation of what a true, deep and trusting relationships need to look like. I'm sorry for the girl who gets stuck with Matthew Hussey, who thinks he can get away with offending sexist comments just because he thinks he's attractive and charming. All he is to me is damned irritating. Sorry, just saying the truth.
what offending sexist comments? o.O I'm a girl and I have no idea what could possibly be seen as offensive in this video. He's just talking plain common sense.
I think he means that you shouldnt say these things on your first dates, before you're committed really. Since it sends off a bad vibe, negative energy. It's like saying "Hi, how are you doing?" And the person starts explaining everything that's wrong in their life. It wasn't what was intended with the question and it just brings everything down. So basically he means stay away from negativity. And the polite thing to do when complimented is to say thank you. They didn't have to and if you're gonna start complaining they will feel bad for doing it in the first place.
+Aj Meredith All his vids are about become a better person and a more desirable dating partner. How would that be sexist? Are you telling me that you don't have a list of things that don't bother you of behaviors that guys do?
More specifically, his videos are about changing yourself to please someone else. I do have a list of things that bother me about men, like Matthew Hussy for example irritates me in so many ways. But I not think all men are as intolerant and sarcastically hateful as he is. I have some great male friends who have none of his problems. Matthew, on the other hand, makes all women seem the same and puts them all in the same " you are a female and you are annoying because of these things" box. I am sorry to disagree with you but his way of approaching his problems with "women" is extremely sexist. It seems to me that he is willingly entertaining the wrong women and blaming all females because of his lack of good judgment.
i love talking about my exes, not so much my weight....i am single cos I am way too cool for guys who are ordinary and are not up to any adventure....of course I am fat in some clothes and in others am hot.......so, it's all good to talk about it.....unless these tips are meant to falsely impress someone!
A lot of the topics covered in this vid are pretty standard topics to avoid when making a first impression, or talking to someone you hardly know. It's not so much "hide your insecurities and feelings" - it's more about discussing lighter topics that are less likely to make a conversation feel awkward. Sometimes conversations might flow more smoothly when each person care about what is actually being said, and how it might affect the other person.
As a guy, this is pretty terrible advice. I was dating this awesome girl recently, she didn't follow any of these rules, and I thought she was great!! Ladies, don't take this guy as an example of what we're like, this guy's a dick!
There are many good answers to the question WHY you are single that will not make you seem insecure and undesirable and instead increase your value. "Because I'm a challenge / ...no easy prey / ...looking for someone who..." or simply "I don't know". Just to give a few examples. They're all better than "because nobody asks me out" as this may make your counterpart question his own interest. Don't pretend to be sth. you are not but do sell yourself well the way you are. It's a matter of attitude.
no not "if" you're single but "why" you're single, which is an annoying question to ask you directly. the "if" is a yes/no simple reply, but "why" takes some explaining. certainly dont make up a complete lie, we appreciate honesty too. a clever answer is something to the effect of "well i havent really made myself available to the dating scene lately." if he is even more annoying and asks why, just say "lack of interest" or something and change the subject. hope that helps!
You are just an attention seeker. You say typically the same thing on all his videos. If you think he's disgusting, why do you always click on his videos? I suggest you go and do something better with your life..
Sunrise Bright hahahaha i didnt see or comment on all his videos....how can u be so sure i click on his videos always???? i came across his videos once n found them stupid...that was it!
I dont think hes judgmental, people are, You think women would not judge me. it if I asked them how my performance and the p was after sex. At the same time though, fuck those people. We are not perfect.
So That's How You Tell Yourself "IT WAS NOT MY FAULT" Lol Take A Note Stop Lying To Yourself To Make Yourself Feel Good About Yourself IT WILL BE GOOD FOR YOU I'm Not Being Mean But Your 95% Thing Is Not True 50% Might Be True ;)
Great advice and reminders living independent and stronger, I dare say, than most men I've known. He needs to be able to fulfill his position as a man in this world and with a woman. That is where I for one need to remind myself of where my God given help to him comes from. You're a doll and I thank you for the help. All the best to you, ma
my ex bf did that, he kept going on about how many girl's he's dated and how one of the girl's dad almost saw them together after having sex in her dad's bed. it was our first date and I really didn't want to know about all that stuff so it's a real turnoff when guy's do it to.
Be yourself and feel comfortable in your skin while enjoying your life. Men who see that will be drawn in. Let him like you more than you like him. Don't give away too much too soon, even your time. Stay on his brain much longer than under his arm if he even deserves that. Keep the conversations light and fun.If you are going to play 20 questions, be very smooth and clever. Save the drama for a therapist, he can't do everything for you,Lol! If you are not in a fantastic mood, postpone the date.
you're so right,i used to say and talk to my bf about these things "that i should not say to him" but i stoped talking about these shit coz i figured out that its really annoying..Thank u :)
...I love this 4 tips of what not to say to a guy..A definitely no no and always been my principal of not revealing my whole life stories of my ex's in dates...
Just give a much more graceful answer, such as: "because I've been busy, with my career/school" , or "because I just haven't found the right one", etc .
General advice: Don't hold your head back so much it gives a condescending or insecure look. Also that bit at the end had to cut of sooner. You sort of smile after which you slide into a condescending or insecure look. It could be both. Condescencion to hide insecurity is well practised amongst men.
that you just arent ready to commit, becausee of personal issues.. such as you're still deciding what you want and dont want to commit before you are sure you're ready. explain that part of being mature is knowing when to slow down and not rush into something. :) just be sincere with him, hope he understands
i never talk about my weight i never talk about my exes, i never really get asked why are you still single but girls ask me the whole time. and when i get compliment from guys i say thank you and smile.......... ive been single for nearly 4 years i dont understand why. i got on with guys so well ive been brought up with guys.
if u say these to a guy and he acknowledges them and doesnt like back away then he is genuine i have said about these to a guy and he hasnt been bothered ..
Idk why but this video shows up sooo often in my recommendations, even though I've already seen it and have been watching his videos for years, but I don't even mind because it's so funny seeing lil' fetus Matthew. I love his messy, scruffy hair!! xD
To sum up, make sure you're always watching what your doing and saying and if you start to be yourself, remember these rules so you can be interesting/generic enough for him to see value in you.
Yeah! I never saw your video before Matt, and I totally agree. DON'T TALK ABOUT OUR PAST GIRLS! It's bad enough we had to break up, how can you bring that up again? So your video really helps us guys all. I was also wondering were there certain signs that us guys tried to show, and you were right as well on the other video. If I liked a girl, I normally will try to shift near her, so maybe sometimes girls just don't get it. Anyways thanks Matt.
A few days after a first date with a British guy, I decided to call. He seemed unwilling to perpetuate the conversation during the call so I began feeling nervous, which translated into saying the first thing that came to mind! So, I start talking about how my friend introduced me to Matthew Hussey and that I was trying to place his English dialect. He proceeded to start watching one of the videos WHILE on the phone with me, and commented on the nature of the topic. Talk about what NOT to do!
19-year-old Matthew Hussey???
TheAngelieVaudeville same but I lost this 6years later!!!
Right ? 😂
He was 23
Look at this teenage boy version of Matt! Hes so adorable

When a guy asks you why are you still single, you reply with 'Why are you still single?'
If you go to Matthew's "Love Life" podcast on Itunes, there's an episode called The perfect answer to "Why are you still single".
The same is true for guys who talk about their exes...This guy I was seeing went through every girl he had ever been with, been rejected by, hit on, etc during the course of our first couple dates. They're all better than "because nobody asks me out" as this may make your counterpart question his own interest. Don't pretend to be sth. you are not but do sell yourself well the way you are. It's a matter of attitude.
no not "if" you're single but "why" you're single, which is an annoying question to ask you directly. the "if" is a yes/no simple reply, but "why" takes some explaining. certainly dont make up a complete lie, we appreciate honesty too. a clever answer is something to the effect of "well i havent really made myself available to the dating scene lately." if he is even more annoying and asks why, just say "lack of interest" or something and change the subject. hope that helps!
i wud never date him...he is so judgmental eww
How???
You are just an attention seeker. You say typically the same thing on all his videos. If you think he's disgusting, why do you always click on his videos? I suggest you go and do something better with your life..
Sunrise Bright hahahaha i didnt see or comment on all his videos....how can u be so sure i click on his videos always???? i came across his videos once n found them stupid...that was it!
Nt mre thn grls ..
I dont think hes judgmental, people are, You think women would not judge me. it if I asked them how my performance and the p was after sex. At the same time though, fuck those people. We are not perfect.
Great. So now I'll say these things to chase off guys I _don't_ like...thank you :3
19 years old and he's much more mature, intelligent and charming than 95% of the guys in the world
So That's How You Tell Yourself "IT WAS NOT MY FAULT" Lol Take A Note Stop Lying To Yourself To Make Yourself Feel Good About Yourself IT WILL BE GOOD FOR YOU I'm Not Being Mean But Your 95% Thing Is Not True 50% Might Be True ;)
Great advice and reminders living independent and stronger, I dare say, than most men I've known. He needs to be able to fulfill his position as a man in this world and with a woman. That is where I for one need to remind myself of where my God given help to him comes from.
You're a doll and I thank you for the help.
All the best to you,
ma
my ex bf did that, he kept going on about how many girl's he's dated and how one of the girl's dad almost saw them together after having sex in her dad's bed. it was our first date and I really didn't want to know about all that stuff so it's a real turnoff when guy's do it to.
Obviously not that much of a turn off since you dated him after he did it on your first date.
SUCH a baby face you had back then! Loved your advice then, love it now. and....can I just say - I can tell you've been working out. Hubba- hubba!
On the number four, I usually don't accept compliments that well because I don't want to seem like I'm full of myself.
A LEGEND WAS BORN
I know that feel, sis, you're not alone.
"just smile and say thank you" ok, THE BETTER TIP OF THE WHOLE VIDEO. ps: love your accent
Landed here in 2022.. STILL GOLD ❤️
...I love this 4 tips of what not to say to a guy..A definitely no no and always been my principal of not revealing my whole life stories of my ex's in dates...
Just give a much more graceful answer, such as: "because I've been busy, with my career/school" , or "because I just haven't found the right one", etc .
I LOVE HIS ACCENT
This has more to do with the basics of being confident and positive. DUH true for how you represent yourself to everyone in general not just guys
its called, not being "exclusive" so that gives BOTH OF YOU the freedom to go on dates with others, as you BOTH please.
General advice: Don't hold your head back so much it gives a condescending or insecure look. Also that bit at the end had to cut of sooner. You sort of smile after which you slide into a condescending or insecure look. It could be both. Condescencion to hide insecurity is well practised amongst men.
I see. Thank you very much for answering. My God, why didn't I think of that. It really shows how dense I am when it comes to flirting with guys
He`s right, listen up ladies!
All these are very true. Especially the last one I complemented a girl yesterday, and she said but I'm ugly. It gets very annoying.
that you just arent ready to commit, becausee of personal issues.. such as you're still deciding what you want and dont want to commit before you are sure you're ready. explain that part of being mature is knowing when to slow down and not rush into something. :) just be sincere with him, hope he understands
So true on talking about ex's. Its an internal letdown for alot of people .-.
i never talk about my weight i never talk about my exes, i never really get asked why are you still single but girls ask me the whole time. and when i get compliment from guys i say thank you and smile.......... ive been single for nearly 4 years i dont understand why. i got on with guys so well ive been brought up with guys.
if u say these to a guy and he acknowledges them and doesnt like back away then he is genuine i have said about these to a guy and he hasnt been bothered ..
1. Weight
2. Exes
3. Why am I single
4. Smile thank you for complement
awww! You're hair looks so good with the roughed up or just woke up look.
Matt, I decided to watch all your videos, and here i am on the very first video of you 😌
He is way better looking here now than he is muscular
idk why, so genuine simple and attractive here
Ten years but it still makes sense
Your accent is SOOOOOO adorable!!
and his accent is adorable
Anyways thanks Matt.
if i watch anymore of his video i'm going to melt like butter. I pay more attention to him than in class. lol
Omg you are so young here 🥺🤩
Now yall don't have to be mean about it! He just trying to help us. And if you dontt like
this video just helped me come up with an answer to the last text i got lol.
that was quick and concise! good job! thank you!
Looks so young, Matthew!
Yep, that's right. Good points.
Every guy is different based on experience, and the one thing i agree on is your last statement
