  • I wanted to share my soundboard configuration and some of the most essential sound clips & drops that you might want to utilize. I use Farrago from Rogue Amoeba software to master & play the clips, and Elgato's Stream Deck XL to trigger them on the hardware side.

    That part where you hit the slap shot bind then the cross bar bind. So cool. I’d have too much fun with that haha

    How did you add the hot key for fade all since it isn’t actually bound to a key? The only other way other than hitting the icon that I see is binding it to a midi key.

      great question, i believe that's space bar key for Farrago? (pretty sure you can also customize it in the app) - which i assigned to a stream deck button.

    Great video, do you know if its possible to use soundboard software on the mac and have those sounds play through the built in mic on the macbook. This would be helpful if i want others in a call to hear what i play, but i havent found anything online talking about how to do this

      To pipe sound effects so others hear them on Zoom etc video conferences, for me the best way is using an audio device like a Zoom H5 or F6. My mike goes into one channel input, and if you set computer sound output to external headphones, you can feed that to another channel on the audio mixer. To make sure the participants' voices are separate, I set sound from the video conference app to external speakers. You then have separate control over sound effects, and can monitor levels via headphones from your audio mixer.
      You can also do this using Loophole and Audio Hijack if you don't have an audio mixing device. Check out Guy Serle's UA-cam video on how to do this.

      @@alzibaba theres a loopback utility called 'black hole' thjat will allow you to loop back audio (its basically a virtual sound card)

    do you know any alternatives for farrago on windows, and a software you can record it with?

      Ableton, 'Sports sound pro', Spot-On, Sound Cue

    this setup assumes you have farrago always on screen and active as front most app, could it also work by sending something else then a keystroke, which will work when farrago is not in front or even minimised? as I currently use farrago with a launchpad by novation, that one just sends a midi signal and will work even if you're busy in other apps. could something like that be accomplished with steam deck?

    • @greg_oldham
      @greg_oldham Рік тому

      you can use a shortcut to bring farrago ther front, but there isn't a shortcut to send it back to the background. you may use a shortcut to bring another program to the front after the sound is triggered though

    This looks really cool! How do I add controls for Farrago to Stream Deck. I don't see Farrago in the list when I search for adding actions on the Stream Deck.

    • @brodiebrazil
      @brodiebrazil  3 роки тому

      yeah, unfortunately stream deck doesn't natively interact with a lot of other software/devices (yet, but hopefully they will!)
      what i do is create a "hotkey" for every button on farrago. so if a sound effect is for the "P" button... make the stream deck trigger a "p" hotkey and then label it appropriately. make sense?

      @@LaurelPapworth in that case just use a modifier [right-shift]+p or something for the trigger.

    • @chrisatwood
      @chrisatwood 2 роки тому

      @@LaurelPapworth This might be a bit inception-like, but you can use AppleScript to send commands to Farrago. Then you could trigger those scripts via the Stream Deck or if you have something like Keyboard Maestro you can trigger those workflows in the Stream Deck to kick them off without the app being the focused program.

    • @scottfindley1345
      @scottfindley1345 2 роки тому

      @@LaurelPapworth you can also send midi commands via streamdeck, think this is the fastest way from a-b and allows you to free up your keybord (and eliminate the need for farrago to be in focus) while triggering clips, but theres a variety of ways to do that , also OSC, applescript, keyboard maestro, etc

  • @DaveHamilton

    Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like doing it with a hotkey means you must *first* bring Farrago to the front. If Farrago isn't the front-most app, none of this will work, right? Have you sorted out a way of sending these commands to Farrago regardless of whether or not it's the front-most app?

    • @brodiebrazil
      @brodiebrazil  2 роки тому +1

      you are correct dave... i have it set up where Farrago still DOES need to be the front app for hot keys. however... you can program elgato stream deck to 1) make it the front app , 2) AND hotkey all in the same Macro. i just dont have it set up that way

    • @DaveHamilton
      @DaveHamilton 2 роки тому

      @@brodiebrazil Thanks, Brodie! Unfortunately, doing a multi-step macro in stream deck that way doesn't seem to work with Farrago. I'm finding I have to press the key on the stream deck multiple times for it to trigger, almost like it's sending the keypress to Farrago before it actually is the frontmost app. I finally just linked it to a Keyboard Maestro Macro to get it done properly.
      Have you been able to make Farrago work with stream deck's multi-step macros?

  • @scottfindley1345
    @scottfindley1345 2 роки тому +1

    Farrago's achillies heel is that there are no choke groups available so that you can negate the playing of one clip by triggering that of another, i.e. a drumroll leading to a rimshot - one could play the roll as a loop, ultimately ending in a rimshot one-shot sound - ending the playback of the loop roll. and what about hotpunching music cues? i.e. - a sports highlight clip, which transitions to another clup with an externally triggered wipe effect, and you want to hit another cut? There needs to be a way for certain clips to stop the playing of others. Also does farrago create a log of what was played w/ timestamps? Got to have cue sheets for live TV. When/if those get implimented, Im all over Farrago! till then, Ableton (with some programmatic modding on my end) is the best solution.

    • @chrisatwood
      @chrisatwood 2 роки тому

      Using the "Solo" option in Farrago should do the "stop the previous" track for you right? You could loop a track and then trigger a solo track to stop the sound.

      @@chrisatwood Hey Chris, Thanks for the insight,. but wouldnt the subsequemt playig of any new music clip then stop the playback of say, a sound effect bed which I would NOT want to be stopped upon changing to a new music cue.. I think what I need is a few stop groups. S'all good though, thatst what Ive built into my own custom software which I built from scratch in Max/MSP for ableton and it does the trick along with some other thingts (like random playlists etc). Thanx tho!
