      Some model Y have it others don’t thus is not normal.
      Certified in sound recording engineering and over 40 years of manufacturing ISO, ASTM (I) quality control and failure analysis engineering experience, there is a specific process to diagnose, identify and resolve the problem.
      The problem is clearly creating harmonic and inharmonic frequencies which typically needs a “resonance chamber” to oscillate and amplify the sound.
      The fact some model Y have it and others don’t is key and should be rather straight forward to isolate and resolve, if they follow the background I have.
      I will reach out to Tesla gladly help if Tesla wishes.
      I am surprised Tesla states this is Normal, which may indicate that they know what is causing the sounds “which is Normal” for the changes in parts or lack of parts that are causing the annoying unacceptable sounds.
      In either cases, this sound is as unacceptable as Tesla’s response to it in turn causing a huge marketing problem for Tesla.
      Cheers,
      KP

    Just had our Model Y delivered to us literally about 90 minutes ago. Heard the humming noise as soon as i moved the car in the garage from where the Tesla valet dropped it off, about 12 ft. As soon as i put it in park you can hear the humming sound coming from the same area you indicate in your video. I said to my self this cannot be normal noise and decided to youtube. Picked up my MYP on Sept 24th . Vin 268xxx. same exact noise that you're describing in video that I noticed IMMEDIATELY after getting home. Car had 22 miles on it when i noticed it. I have another Model Y 2021 Vin 77kxxx and the noise is not there AT ALL. I can sit in car, watch youtube, listen to music and its a pleasure. With this car....... OMG i can't wait to get out of.. Im selling this in few days if SC won't do anything about it. this is so sad, bought my 2nd MY because we love our first one so much, but this is absolutely beyond annoying. Noise gets worse when you accelerate every single time where you can hear it even with music and all the road noise. Im about to sign up on your pages and petitions...... thank you so much for making this heard and fighting to fix it.
    You know, i bought MY cause they're so quiet and always told people about how nice it.... At this point, i would never recommend this car to anyone as the noise is unbearable. Hope there is a fix as this car is perfect for my family.

    Hello,
    Seeing this video and the discussion on the Tesla Motors Club was a relief. Just picked up my 2022 Model 3 LR and on December 24th. It makes this SAME noise in the same circumstances. Had it in for service in Toronto and they claimed the same response, it's a battery coolant pump and they've forwarded to the engineers to fix it with a software update. I noticed the hum as soon as I plugged in the charger. It hummed all night and then randomly stopped this morning. It now will hum for about 15 min after driving and then stops. I only hear it within 15 min or a drive. Very strange. A little annoying but glad it is not continuous. It sounds like a fan/electrical noise.

    I have a June 2021 Model Y. At first, it did make a noise like that in the heat pump area, but after about 1 month and software update, it seemed to have went away. I also owned a Model 3 2018, and it was silent. While my Y noise went away, I would say the ride quality on the 2021 ModelY is much stiffer than on my 2018 Model 3. So sorry you are having this problem. I put money down on a Model Y LR with Gemini wheels to be delivered to me in Iowa in October of 2022. This will be my first Tesla and I certainly do not want to have a lot of loud humming sounds. Question: Does it make more or different noise when the octovalve heat pump is working ?? I will check all of these things out before I accept delivery of the Model Y I have ordered. (This reminds me of a comment Sandy Munro made in one of his videos That Tesla needs to put some kind of housing around the Octovalve equipment to suppress the noise it makes.)

    • @fabrizioferrari2705
      @fabrizioferrari2705  2 роки тому

      Thank you for your thoughts! Yes, the noise changes tone and frequency when you use your car, mostly with the A/C on (the noise increases) or if you are super-charging. Be careful though, the heat pump has nothing to do with this problem and so what Munro mentioned about it. This problem is caused by the cooling system water pumps or a vibration coming from there which is in a totally different area of the heat pump ;)

      I am sorry you have the same problem. The water pumps causing the noise are the ones attached to the octovalve system. People have solved the problem by either replacing the pumps or the whole octovalve system. Your only chance is to find a silent Tesla and make an actual noise comparison between them. That worked for me.

    Very frustrating. I picked up a Model Y 4680 4 days ago and have been noticing some sounds, which led me to your video. While charging level 1 at home, there is a loud fan or buzzing sound the whole time. Never had this on two other EV cars.
    I also noticed that when I pulled into the garage after a drive and parked, when I tried to sit in the car and look at the menus there was a loud fan/electronic buzzing sound. This is with HVAC turned off. Very annoying for a brand new electric $50k+ car and not what I expected. Again, never had this with my other EVs.
    I am going to do what you do in the video and open a door and see if the sound will start. The noise while charging does seem to be in similar spot to where you showed. I just walked around front of car today and took a video to show others and see if it is normal.

      @@fabrizioferrari2705 Appears to be same issue. Today, I unplugged, then waited a bit for car to go completely quiet. I opened the app and I heard the noise start up and it stayed on for about 10 minutes. I am assuming that is the water pump. It is that same corner of the front of the car where the sound comes from. Next, I opened my driver door and the sound started up again. I went inside the car and it is pretty loud. When I plug back in to charge a fan or something also goes on so it is even louder and seems to stay that way the entire time.
      Very frustrating! Besides this issue, I love the car and it is very smooth and quiet while driving. It would be nice if this pump would not run while sitting in the car. We received my wife MY 2023 on 09/18/2023. The car was humming all night, and that continued on Tue 09/19/2023. I decided to do some troubleshooting why this is happening. I turned off my phone, because I was the last driver, because I was suspecting it has to do with my profile settings. After 30 minutes I went to the garage to check the car, and guess what humming was gone. I then turned on my phone, and signed on to the Tesla app, and went down and check, the car was humming again. I signed off the Tesla app, and the car stopped humming. It seems there is setting causing the car to think you are ready to drive as soon as the Model Y is connected to the phone. I plan to double check “Keep Climate On” and “Sentry Mode” options. This whole EV is new to us, but intriguing in terms of troubleshooting.
    For now I stopped the humming thing of the car parked in the garage, by just signing off/out of the Tesla app, just use the Key pad 🙂. But I am leaning towards the profile settings causing the issue. I plan to investigate further.

    My Model 3 heat pump transferred vibrations to the steering wheel, and my transmission has "a clunk noise" when I accelerate and decelerate, according to them it is "normal". If you want silence and are used to luxury class cars don't buy a Tesla, buy an Etron.
    Every three months Tesla cars have new changes internally and things can change for the better and for the worse.
    I hope you get used to it and enjoy the car but I also understand that some noises might be unusual or can irritate sensitive ears.

  • @BitJam
    @BitJam 2 роки тому

    I think that noise is normal. The car uses the HVAC system to condition the battery. If you get in the car it will condition the battery because it figures you are going to drive. If you open the charging port it conditions the battery because it figures you are going to charge the car.
    I noticed the same thing when I got my Model Y back in June but I don't really notice it anymore. I also got some sound insulation installed. That may be why I notice it less now.

    • @fabrizioferrari2705
      @fabrizioferrari2705  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment, but I don't think it is normal. The noise is too loud, and as I said, I tried other Model Ys and they are completely silent (like my Model 3). If you had the same issue, I guess your car is one of those having this issue. Did you ask Tesla about it? Did they install the insulation or did you do that yourself? Thanks :)

    • @BitJam
      @BitJam 2 роки тому

      @@fabrizioferrari2705 PS: I wish you the best of luck with this. Please let us know what happens.
      The noise certainly sounds like the AC/heat-pump running. 2020 and earlier Model 3s don't have a heat pump so they are very quiet when trying to warm up the battery. They use resistance heating which is silent but is much less efficient than a heat pump (which is like an air conditioner run in reverse). But Model 3s will make the humming noise when they are *cooling* the battery.
      Battery conditioning doesn't always happen. It depends on the temperature of the battery and maybe other things. ALL Model Ys will make that humming noise when they condition the battery. If yours is humming more than others it means yours is doing more battery conditioning.
      I got an aftermarket sound insulation kit that consists of strips of foam with adhesive to put around the doors, the trunk lid, and the frunk lid. Someone now makes sound insulation for the entire frunk lid. Early on Tesla did make a change by adding a sound insulation blanket around the Model Y heat pump. This was retrofitted for the oldest Model Ys that didn't have it.
      I don't know why I no longer notice the noise. Maybe I just got used to it. I live in the desert so I try to always turn the AC on for a few minutes before using the car. It's possible the sound insulation made it a little quieter but I'd be very surprised if that is the full story. Maybe brand new cars do more battery conditioning. I don't know why that would be.
      When I first got my car I was worried like you. I did some research which told me the hum was normal (but it was still annoying). Now I don't notice it or hardly notice it.
      Here is a thread about this issue at TMC:
      Humming while parking in garage on a new Model Y. Is this sound normal(
      teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/humming-while-parking-in-garage-on-a-new-model-y-is-this-sound-normal-video-attached.210338/
      The verdict was the sound is normal.
      If there is something wrong then ISTM it's either:
      a) your heat pump is loader than normal, or
      b) your battery is being conditioned more than normal.
      The Tesla techs kind of ruled out (a) but if you have access to other Model Ys then you can easily compare the sound level by having them turn on the AC. I think there are phone apps that act like a (cheap) sound level meter.
      As for (b) maybe you can test this by having two cars with similar charge levels sit side by side for at least a few hours to get them to the same temperature then try to trigger the noise in both cars.

    • @fabrizioferrari2705
      @fabrizioferrari2705  2 роки тому

      @@BitJam Thank you for your encouragement and detailed description of your experience. I did actually read your thread a few weeks ago, but I heard the A/C on and was my understanding that that was normal with the A/C off. In my case, the A/C is off and the hum is always there, Never stops. Also, it has nothing to do with the heat-pump. It is related to the water pumps. And as I said, I compared the car to other Model Ys that were completely silent. But it looks like there are a number of Model Ys that have my same problem, and that's what I am trying to figure out. Is that related to a different/defective component or are just different "conditions" that trigger it? Fact is, in my case, no matter the condition of the car (fully charged batteries, mid or low charged batteries, having drive or not driven, parked for 1 hour or a week, etc), I always get the same humming sound by just opening the door. It just never stops until the car is parked for more than 5-10 minutes and remains untouched. That's why I think something is physically different in my car compared to other model Ys. But I also know that I am not alone having this problem. I heard a newly produced Model Y having the same issue and other people who got their Model Y recently have it. So... my guess, the newest cars have this problem. But I still think it is not right and should be fixed! I think anyone wants a quiet Tesla right? You can't drive a Tesla with the A/C off and hear the noise of a propelled airplane in the background all the time. That's the feeling I have when I drive my Model Y (no matter if the A/C is on or off!). As for sound-proofing the car, unfortunately I don't think it is going to help in my case since the sound is produced by a vibration coming from the water pumps transmitted to the cabin through the car metal structure. Therefore, there's no easy way to mask that.

    Ok so what I'm starting to see here is that Tesla is already cutting to many corners to able to deliver a record amount of cars each quarter. All this in the middle of a parts shortage. Instead of just being up front and honest with its customers, it's choosing to try and get away with either using inferior parts, delivery cars with parts missing (USB ports and chargers) or using excuses like radar is a problem with Autopilot so we will go TelsaVision only and logs show no one is using passenger lumbar support so we will stop shipping with that. At least with the no radar they had you sign a document up front telling you they were not including it. But with the lumbar and USB ports they only released a statement after they were called out on it. That leads me to wonder how many parts in the car are now being replaced by lowest bidders so that Tesla can continue to push out cars at a quarter by quarter break neck pace so that stock prices can continue rise. This is really starting to worry me and from what I'm seeing here on UA-cam and Reddit a lot of others.

    My issue that led me to you is my 2022 Model Y has been giving me headaches since I got it 1 month ago. They range in severity from brain-fog / discomfort, to splitting on occasion. My current theory is the car could be making a low frequency sound that is causing the pain; possibly the HVAC unit. Have you had headaches related to these noises?

    • @fabrizioferrari2705
      @fabrizioferrari2705  2 роки тому

      I am sorry about that, that's terrible. No, I don't drive enough probably to suffer from that noise too much. But I can understand what you arr reporting can actually happen! That's why this issue must be taken seriously by Tesla. Have you reported to Tesla about it? What did they say?

    • @CalvinCrack
      @CalvinCrack 2 роки тому +1

      @@fabrizioferrari2705 Thanks for you concern. No I haven't spoken directly to Tesla yet about the problem, I'm still awaiting my first service appointment on March 9th (I've had the car for a month). Still not sure HVAC is my issue, but it's a strong theory. Since I began looking online for people with similar headaches, I've been down a few rabbitholes. There's HVAC vibration theory. There's Air-buffeting / improper cabin pressurization theory. There's toxic assembly glue off-gassing theory. There's extremely low frequency EMF from AC motor theory. The problem is that these variables are difficult to isolate from one another and test in a vacuum since, as you know, the car is often doing its own thing independent of your settings. The thing that concerns about Tesla is they are a relatively new company still mastering this complicated process of auto design and mass production, and we are already aware of the types of problems that get through their QA process. Makes me wonder what else is getting through QA that are perhaps more subtle, or rare manufacturing defects that show up in, perhaps, 1%-5% of the cars. Some component that isn't properly tightened, which causes a low frequency hum that gives headaches to x% of people. The problem could look so small as to not register on Tesla's bottom line, despite being a real manufacturing or design error that needs to be investigated. This is why what you are doing is so important-- people need to speak up!

      @@CalvinCrack Good points and thoughts Colin! I agree with you 100%. I am anyway quite disappointed of the silence from Tesla about our petition sent back December. We'll try to send it again as soon as we have many more signatures, but I am afraid it'll just make no difference. At the end fo the story, what it really makes me sad is hearing people reselling their Teslas because of that issue, or swearing they won't buy a Tesla anymore. Just because of that stupid noise that could be easily fixed at start in the factory.

    • @CalvinCrack
      @CalvinCrack 2 роки тому +1

      @@fabrizioferrari2705 it’s so silly. It has to be fixable. I’m going to push them at my service appointment to figure out if the HVAC is my problem, and lobby them to replace it just in case. And also have them check the duct flaps on the car which are supposed to open to allow pressure out. I talked to an HVAC tech who believes that those flaps being stuck closed would cause the pressurized cabin which could cause headaches.

    • @fabrizioferrari2705
      @fabrizioferrari2705  2 роки тому

      @@CalvinCrack Yes, I am sure it is fixable! I know the problem is with the water pumps of the cooling system or their bearing to the octovalve system. Either the replacement of the pumps or the whole octovalve system has been proven to solve the problem. But it is also a hit or miss solution. I had both water pumps replaced, the noise has been reduced, but it is till there. Please, keep us posted with your results!

    Certified in sound recording engineering and over 40 years of manufacturing ISO, ASTM (I) quality control and failure analysis engineering experience, there is a specific process to diagnose, identify and resolve the problem.
    The problem is creating harmonic and inharmonic frequencies which typically needs a “resonance chamber” to oscillate and amplify the sound.
    The fact some model Y have it and others don’t is key and should be rather straight forward to isolate and resolve, if they follow the background I have.
    I will reach out to Tesla gladly help if Tesla wishes.
