- A real world test of the newly released Phenyx Pro True Diversity PTU-1U versus the 2009 Sennheiser True Diversity EW 100 G3. I can't believe how bad the Phenyx Pro performed in comparison to the Sennheiser. I am sending this video to Phenyx Pro to see what that have to say about the poor performance.

I never had a problem with my Phynex Pro, I was approximately 150 feet away from the base and walked through a small room then into the rest room so the mic had to pass through 2 walls and it sounded perfectly fine. I never had any dropouts with mine. Then this past summer I was over 300 feet from the base and it was still crystal clear. Honestly this is the first video I’ve seen that a person had a problem with the Phynex Pro Mic.
Good review. I have a few different Phenyx Pro systems and I've never had any issues until this past week in one of my tour locations. BUT.. I had 6 wireless mics being used by rappers who were walking around everywhere in front of each other and across the speakers, and people standing in front of the receiver. So not only was there a lot of wireless gear being used, but also line of sight was blocked. I used the PTU-2U as my go to mic for all my performances and I have never had any issues with it at all. Only time was the one I just explained.
Great video! I was wondering about the Phenyx because of the true diversity marketing, so this is very helpful. I am assuming you did, but had you auto-scanned for available channels on the Phenyx before the test? It was so horrible I was shocked!

I would reach out to Phenyx, show them the video. I bet you they would send you a new unit. Something is definitely not right with the unit. I have the PTU-2 works great for me and also have Sennhieser g4 with no problems.
I just picked up the PTU-2U for use in gigs that are in much smaller venues than your church. Mostly to reduce the number of cables I have to coil at the end of the gig. I’ll have to see how it goes. All my IEM transmitters are Sennheiser and I do intend to get Sennheiser wireless mics at some point in the not too distant future, but for now, I figured the Phenyx would get me by. We’ll have to see how it hoes.

In this case, yes. The Phenyx Pro seems to be completely unusable and a waist of my time even purchasing it. I don't understand how they could release a product that performs so poorly. Perhaps there is some sort of internal bug or problem that slipped through the their own internal testing... I have emailed their support to try to get to the bottom of this.
I bought a Phenyx a while ago. Walked around and as soon as I would turn my back to the receiver, it would cut out. Sent it back the same day. People think you can go into different rooms and far away and not have issues which can be true but you star putting bodies in the way and that's a completely different story. This is a great example of you get what you pay for. There is a reason one is $200 and the other is over $600.

Yes.. Come to find out, there are no clean frequencies available at this location for the PTU-1U to use.
Interesting. I got the PTU 2U yesterday and tested the range and had no such issues. I wonder if you have a bad unit?
Also, underneath the battery cover, there is a frequency signal strength switch that you can turn to High or Low. The Low setting is meant to produce a weaker signal to preserve battery life. I wonder if your mic was on Low?
First, thank you for the example of possible dropouts, which would be the case of any system that a "clean" frequency is not available or is very crowded. So, thanks for admitting that. Saying this, what appears to be the issue is the broader increments of frequency tuning of the PTU, which then, could render it unusable in situations where other systems can lock-on due to tighter increment tunning, especially as with the EW line. This demonstration is bringing me to a different purchase decision. Value is non-existent when the quality of production lowers my credibility of reliability.

No.. the procedure I used was correct. The problem is that my location has no clean frequencies available in the range that the PTU-1U uses.
Bingo! I had to do a frequency availability for an area that I had to work (as I always do) & it was useless but works flawlessly when the frequencies are available 👍🏽
Try to lift up more the setup frequency.
I have the PTU-71 and have never experienced the issues you're having. Granted, I bought a cheap mic that I only needed in the moment for a tech rehearsal so the director of a musical could communicate with the cast easier... But I've used these in large theaters, gyms and cafeterias, up to about 250 feet away from the receiver, and have never noticed anything cutting out. But again, I knew I was buying something cheap, and would have never tried to compare it to a Sennheiser.. Also, for what it's worth...

@@Chris3460 BTW, I spoke to Phenxy Pro about my issue, and they feel that the reason was due to no clear frequencies available at the location that the PTU-1U was being used at..
