    The StartStick 20 has become an imperative piece of equipment for our operation. Having a StartStick for every start provides us with clean, consistent power that is easy to manage resulting in cooler and quicker starts. The StartStick 20 is the ultimate GPU for our operation for many reasons. Let’s get into it!
    Most importantly, because we can monitor the battery level of the StartStick, we know when we go to plug it into the airplane it is powered and ready to start safely. With our previous start cart, there was no easy way to monitor the power. We would plug it in after every start to a maintainer, but often old worn out batteries were the ones to end up on the start cart. We even had a battery explode on us on a start. When you’re working with a $300,000 engine (and this is the low end of the spectrum for turbine engines), it is not worth the risk. With the StartStick we can easily monitor the power level of the StartStick and when it’s not adequately charged, it will read “No Start.” We love having the LED screen on the StartStick so we can always see what our level of charge is and it takes away any guess work. We can get 3-4 starts on one charge of the StartStick and it comes with a charger that plugs into any outlet in your shop.
    The portability of the StartStick is huge for us and many operations like us. We have a home base, but we also operate off of two other airports within an 80 mile radius of us. Now with the portability of the StartStick, we have peace of mind knowing that we can either a) bring the SS along in the baggage compartment or b) easily have the fully charged SS with us in the pickup. Either way, if we have to shut down for some reason at a satellite strip, we won’t be stranded.
    Speaking of having an emergency GPU, we know that we are speaking to ways that we use the StartStick in ag aviation but there are many applications across the aviation world as a whole where the StartStick can be useful. Overall, having a portable GPU on board is a layer of stress you can remove from your operations. The size and weight of the StartStick 20 is what makes the StartStick stand out from the rest. The unit only weighs around 20 pounds and measures 24 × 12 × 10 in.
    Please follow this link to read all of the statistics of the StartStick 20Ah GPU and be sure to watch the above video to learn more: www.start-stic...
    We can’t stress enough that having the StartStick 20 has made our daily operations easier, more efficient, and less worrisome. We know it’s an investment but hot starting a turbine engine would be a costly mistake and for us, knowing that we have clean and consistent power to help with cooler, quicker starts is worth the investment.
    If you have any questions about StartStick and or ways that having a StartStick will benefit your operation, don’t hesitate to reach out to us or customer support at StartStick. They have built the StartStick from the ground up and know every intricacy about the unit. We are lucky to be partnered with StartStick and they’ve graciously decided to let us earn a percentage for every StartStick unit we sell. If you’re interested in purchasing one, our link will give you $250 off of the unit and we earn a small percentage on the sale. We really appreciate the support and we want you to know that we are only working with companies/products that we wholeheartedly believe in and use in our own day-to-day operations.

    For those of us less informed, maybe explain a "hot start" and why that is bad in a future video. Not a pilot, but love learning about planes and enjoy your videos!

      Sorry I forget we have lots of different people on the channel with varying backgrounds. A turbine engine has designated temperature limits provided by the manufacture. These limits refer to both taking off and starting the engine (they are different for each scenario). If you have a "hot start" it means you have gone beyond the specified limits which can cause a failure within the engine. A hot start is more likely from a slower turning engine because of weak batteries causing slow engine acceleration.

    I think you mean 10 amp-hour, not 10 amp. The amps available are a lot higher, like 200 amps for start.

    Hey great video!!!! Just out of curiosity how much do these gpu cost?

      The largest one which is the 20 ah is $6,000. They get cheaper from there.

    These also would work great in a 45 ft commercial lobster boat.
    I actually have something similar to ur cart for mine..
    My concern is lithium...carrying that in ur aircraft....or in my boat..fire!
    Hqve they any comments about that?
    Thanks tyson

      Great point! I don’t see it as an issue because it was made entirely for aircraft but we will ask them.

    5:50 What does the StartStick unit weigh? Would never guess the power plug on aircraft was designed to hang a load on it.

    • @AgAviationAdventures
      @AgAviationAdventures  5 місяців тому

      The StartStick 20 is 20 pounds, the 15 is 15 pounds. On one of our planes it is solid. The other one we don't love to hang it just because how the plug is mounted. They do have an extension that we use on the one that's not mounted as well.

    How much current DOES the dash 6 Garrett pull when starting ? peak and first 5 seconds ? Was their 15Ah not big enough ?

    • @AgAviationAdventures
      @AgAviationAdventures  10 місяців тому

      I’m honestly not sure on the current. The 15 would start it and that’s what I would have gone with if I knew we would keep these planes but the 20 will start the largest motor in an 802 if we decide to upgrade in the future.

    It’s always good to see you and Cally hard at it! 👍🤠👍 This was a very interesting subject today! Many people don’t realize that you can’t just hop in a turbo prop and fire it up. I’m not all that familiar with them but I’m learning. I’ve heard Mike Patey talk about it and I assume it has to do with needing more power to circulate the lubricants within the engine adequately so as not to damage it while spooling it up for start up??? Quite different than your average GA aircraft.
    You two take care and be safe!!

      We appreciate you being here with us! The problem with starting is not having enough airflow for the amount of fuel being introduced. This can cause what is known as a hot start which is exceeding the manufactures set temperature limits. Which in turn may lead to a premature engine failure.

    Thanks for the videos! Old school, that's me! Just use a golf cart. It will move the plane and you can fart cart the airplane with the cart!

    Tires? I hope you are using the Desser Recaps. Save any old tires and ship them to Desser, I did this all the time. Brings you tire cost way down!

    • @AgAviationAdventures
      @AgAviationAdventures  10 місяців тому +2

      How much is it for a recap vs new?

    • @jhaedtler
      @jhaedtler 10 місяців тому

      Recaps are 1/3 the price of new tires. Plus the rubber they use lasts longer than the new tires. Also on tailwheel tires, You want them also. When I went to work for my last boss. I called Desser and they said send us your old tires. We got 2 sets of tires for our Weatherley's and one set for our 402. New tires lasted a season and half and the recaps lasted just over 2 seasons! Simple math! Thanks for the videos! we all learn from them!
